This location is great as it is right in downtown Halifax. In order to get to it, you have to enter a gated parking lot. Just press the button for a ticket, you obviously don't have to pay for it because you are leaving the car with them. The location is co-located with an Avis. I actually think they are owned by the same parent company. Note, we were charged $75 for dropping off at a different location than we picked up, even though both locations were within the Halifax Regional Municipality. This was in the rental agreement so it wasn't a surprise sprung on us at drop off, and many car rental companies charge this additional fee, but I thought it was worth mentioning nonetheless.

This small little lot has served me well a couple of times over the past year. Both times the service was good and the vehicles were great. I am writing this review because my most recent car return involved a surprise - $500 more than I was expecting. I was handed the bill without the clerk going over the details and almost headed out the door without doing some quick math. When I mentioned the discrepancy between my expectation and the bill, there was some rather neutral typing on the computer, a quick phone call followed by a request that I wait 5 minutes for the manager to arrive. To her credit, she did quickly verify that the manager was just on his way back to the shop, and when he did arrive, he corrected the bill within a matter of minutes. The clerk could have been more open and friendly, but at least the end result meet my expectations. As I live in downtown, I will definitely go back.

We told the staff member we would be returning it at 6:00pm that day - no problem he said, it's still the one day charge as long as you bring it back same day. Sure enough receive the bill the next day and was charged a late day fee, despite returning it at 6:00pm the same day. Went in to the location the next day (Monday) and the lady working agrees it was a mistaken fee and she will reverse the charge. She starts calculating on her phone how much to reverse and then rounds it up to $20??? Real legit. I then ask that the charges be reversed on the spot - she says she has to have her manager authorize so she can't on the spot. Thinking that's the last of it we leave and sure enough my credit card gets charged the late fees and the wrong amount. I call Hertz customer service head office and they say there's no notes on file about reversing the fee. So this lady straight up lied! Clearly this is a scam they have in place since people don't check their bills closely. Avoid !!!

I mention this only because it's proof that we had checked in with the staff at the rental office on the morning of August 4th so they knew we had every intention of picking the car up that day. Although we were early, we were hoping to pick up the car then but they informed us that it would not be ready until noon. As we left we made note of their signage that stated their office hours as 8:00am to 5:00pm. We had also checked online earlier about the pick up policy, which states that non-airport offices will keep the car for 1 hour after the scheduled pick up time so when we returned to the office just before 1pm we were surprised to find the office closed. We had received no notification of this either verbally or by phone or text. There were another couple of tourists who also came to pick up their car only to find out that the office was closed. We called the contact numbers we had to no avail and then the hotel (where the office is located) front desk suggested that the staff had probably gone home early because (unbeknownst to us) it was a national holiday in Nova Scotia. We resigned ourselves to the situation, modified our plans for that day (sans car) and then went back to the rental office 8:00am the next day. Only to find that, not only did we get no apology for the fact that they never informed us of their early departure the day before so we couldn't pick up our car BUT they had rented our car to someone else!!!! This would not have been a huge problem except THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AVAILABLE TO RENT ANYWHERE IN THE PROVINCE!!!! How is that acceptable??? I've rented from Budget many times and overall the experiences have been good. When asking about the vehicle the 3 salesman could not even get out of their chairs and hardly gave us the time of day. The best moment was when I asked if the car comes with any warranty and the response I was given was a blunt and unexplained "yup". I rented a car in July 2020, after returning the vehicle, I did not receive my $200 deposit back. After a month I had to call to get this back (even though it's supposed to be 3-10 business days. They finally sent me my $200. In September I rented another car from Halifax, and another car 1 week later from Saint John. Same thing, two months later, no money received back for either car. $400 they have at this point. On top of that, when I rented the car from Halifax in September, they gave me a faulty vehicle and didn't do an outside inspection with me. My trip should have taken 4.5 hours, it ended up being 7.5 due to the fact the tire continued to lose pressure, and they refused to swap out a car for me along the way- Amherst, Moncton, Fredericton- you get the idea. Can you imagine driving on the highway and needing to stop at EVERY exit to find a gas station and pump up the tire? I can promise you it was NOT fun and this company took ZERO ownership. You may think Enterprise is great because they do cash deposits, take it from me- I've just purchased a new car and it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper to do that than to ever rent a car from these crooks.
