What should have been a simple "pick up, sign, and go" turned into a 3-hour nightmare: The first car they gave us had no oil, forcing us to U-turn and bring it back after barely driving down the street. When we brought it up, the front desk agent casually said, "Maybe they forgot to check." Are these cars not supposed to be serviced and safety-certified before being rented out? After waiting in line again, we discovered we were wrongly charged for insurance, even though we had a transferable policy. We then spent over an hour going back and forth between our insurance company and the front agent, who somehow "misunderstood" and thought our insurance policy number was the date. We were told the charge was refunded and would "show up in 3 business days." Six days later, guess what? Still no refund. The second car wasn't any better: no windshield washer fluid, a low tire, and no spare tire in case of emergencies. The next day, we got an email about an extra charge for taking the car out of province -- a so-called "policy" that was apparently on a handwritten sign taped to their wall. When we returned the car after six days, we had to wait another 45 minutes just to speak to someone about our missing refund. Everything about this place screams unprofessional and unsafe: Poorly maintained vehicles Hidden fees Untrained staff Zero attention to customer safety The only positive thing I can say? The place smelled good. At least we spent three hours of our lives in a space that didn't smell like garbage. Save yourself the stress -- rent anywhere else

When I noticed this discrepancy, I immediately called Avis and was assured the difference would be credited back to our card within 3-5 business days. Three weeks later, no credit had appeared. When I followed up today, the customer service representative told me there was a "non-refundable prepay" amount of $116.80. This fee was never listed on our original rental invoice. I pointed this out, but was told it was "in the contract"--a contract we were never emailed or given access to. Any reputable company would simply honour the updated, lower total and issue a refund. Instead, Avis held onto our money for nine months, only to later claim part of it was non-refundable. To make matters worse, cancellations were not allowed at any time after booking--something highly unusual compared to hotels, airlines, or restaurants, which typically offer at least some flexibility. This experience highlights just how inflexible Avis is at every level. For that reason, we will absolutely be avoiding them in the future.

    After reading all the 1 star reviews, i almost decided to cancel all my reservations... but i end…read moreup rented from this place, and it wasn't THAT bad... some impressions: 1. the 3 Middle Eastern guys working there doesn't strike you as the most enthusiastic people you ever work with 2. half of the time you call their number, you get a recording where the voice mail is not set up. and when you do reach them, the person would tell you call them again only when you are at Viscount, then they will send you a shuttle. 3. as some pointed out, you can't ride on the shuttle from the same place as the other rental car shuttles, but you have to walk a bit, ride on a train to the Viscount station, then only then you can call them and then they will send you a shuttle. the shuttle wait was about 10 min, but the whole walking/searching took more than half hour 4. after i returned the car, i was finally able to convince the shuttle driver to drive us to the terminal instead of the Viscount station. He did give me some obvious hint that he wants more tips for his troubles... i end up gave him 20 CAD on the good side, i enjoyed the car... i reserved a "mid-sized car" and i end up getting a 2017 Civic. that was nice. there was a $750 deposit which they'll return to you after you return the car my sister in law end up getting some wierd charges on her bill... i didn't get those wierd charges... but it's better to remember to ask for an itemized receipt. it's not a totally horrible car rental place especially if you come in prepared... the price is indeed cheaper than others... but if you are short on time, i do suggest you find some other rental places

I returned the vehicle after only a few hours and the situation was handled very poorly. The customer service team appeared inexperienced and unable to offer any solutions or assistance. They seemed helpless and unable to properly address my concerns. I also contacted the manager by email, but the communication was unprofessional and unclear, with no meaningful follow-up or resolution. Overall, the lack of customer support, poor communication, and unprofessional handling of the situation made this a very disappointing experience. I hope the company improves staff training and customer service standards to prevent similar situations for future customers.

We don't travel a lot so this was the first time we had to rent a car & we were unfamiliar with the full process. After our flight landed & we got our luggage & located the car rental area, it was around the time where they were opening. with a couple of people already in line ahead of us waiting. The lady that took us was an older Asian woman with short hair & glasses. She helped the man before us & gave him his keys with instructions on which parking space his car would be in & sent him off, only for him to come back 5 minutes later and tell her that he could not find the car that she gave him the keys for to which she came up with some sort of excuse that Budget shares cars with Avis & proceeded to push him off to the only other associate there. We wished her a good morning & started the process of getting our car while asking a couple of clarifying questions here & there. Not once were we rude to her in any way. Immediately off the bat, she wanted to upsell us on a higher model/bigger car, which we refused stating that a normal sedan will be fine, to which she asked if a Toyota Corolla will be OK, & we agreed. She also wanted to charge us a PER DAY fee of $14 to add a second driver to the car which we refused. Then she asked about adding insurance to the car. Being unfamiliar with the process, we asked if it was possible at all to somehow add or use our existing insurance from the U.S. to which she replied extremely condescendingly, "How should I know? that's something for you to figure out." & immediately following up with a threat saying "you can refuse insurance if you want but if anything happens, it's on you." So due to this new worry & driving on unfamiliar roads in a different country, we were forced to accept the basic insurance which added another $40 dollars PER DAY to our total which came out to be almost $600 for THREE DAYS. Throughout our conversation & transaction & on NUMEROUS occasions, she mentioned that the car we would be getting will be a Toyota Corolla. Once everything was done, she handed us the paperwork and car key and told us where to find the car, mentioning AGAIN that it would be a Corolla. We then noticed that the key she handed us was a Nissan key which is usually a more expensive car than a Corolla, so wanting to make sure we are not being up-charged, we brought this to her attention to which she said "I don't have a Toyota Corolla." Then why would you mention a Corolla 4-5 times if you didn't have one? Other than where to find our car & how to leave, she never gave us any other instructions like how we were supposed to manually check everything on the car ourselves & mark any dents, scratches, etc. We walked to the car and immediately noticed that it was damaged to hell & back. There was almost no surface on this car that was not scratched, dinged, dented, or chipped. We went back to her to let her know that the car was extremely damaged & this is where she became extremely rude & again never mentioned that we were supposed to mark it on the paper. All she told us was that the lady at the exit gate will check everything for us & write it off & then proceeded to scream at us to "leave! LEAVE!". We got in the car & drove up to the exit gate to greet the lady. We told her the information we were given & asked her to mark off the damage on the car to which she replied "That's not my job. You are supposed to do that yourselves." & we let her know that we were never given those instructions. We then got out of the car & started to take pictures & videos of every piece of damage while marking everything on the tiny piece of paper as best as we could. This process took about 10-15 minutes after which she came up to us again & said "This is unacceptable!" & told us we need to finish up & leave. We again let her know that we were not given clear instructions to check the car before driving off to which she again replied that "this is unacceptable." telling us to finish up. We have now returned to the U.S. & are anxiously waiting to see if they will try to push any of the damage on the car onto us. Safe to say we will NEVER give our business to this company again no matter where we travel to. If you are considering renting a car through them, because they're the cheapest option available, BEWARE & stay away. Use a different company even if they are more expensive. Save yourselves the headache.

    DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. While returning the car, we entered the return area & I parked the car in a…read moreline of cars that were already there. I chose the left most lane because as I was driving into the area, there was a car coming toward us (probably driven by an agent on its way out) and the left most lane would have avoided any further cars coming in this way (and there were headlights from another car that were on and facing us). As I was parking, I saw the agent who was watching our car but she did not do anything at the time. When we started getting out, she came over and immediately started berating us, saying this lane is only for cars that have issues and need work done. She said she kept waving us over into a different lane, but no one in the car saw her and in fact I was looking right at her while I was parking and she just stood there. First of all, how are we supposed to know that lane is only for vehicles with issues? We even pointed out to her that the lane was clearly marked "returns" and she even said "yes I know that but I was waving to you." Again no one in the car saw her and I watched her as I was parking. There was no signage that said "for cars with issues only." Second, she could have tried a different approach and simply said "do you think you can move into this lane instead? It would help us out." And then I would have moved the vehicle the little bit she wanted it moved and would have forgotten about it. Third, we happened to have a dashcam on the vehicle which recorded all of this. I took snapshots: Picture 1: Car coming towards, us, which is why we went to the left lane to avoid further cars coming too close to us. Picture 2: You can see the lane marked "returns." There are no signs that say "for cars with issues only." Picture 3: You can clearly see the agent. This is not someone frantically waving at us Picture 4: The agent is looking right at us. Still not waving Picture 5: The agent actually turns around from us. This is not someone who is frantically waving at us! I filed a complaint with Alamo, and I had to do it twice just to get it to the manager. I emailed Umar Khan who works there, who totally ignored my complaint. The agent was very rude and very unprofessional. I have rented multiple cars over the years and have never been treated like this. We have family in the area we rented the vehicle at but will not be using Alamo ever again. The employees and managers need more customer service training. I cannot fathom a company like Alamo employing such rude and unprofessional agents. This particular agent needs to be talked to and proper action needs to take place against her. What a horrible way to end an otherwise nice vacation. If you have an option, do not rent from here.
