I called directly to the rental desk at Shannon Airport and the agent there said no problem. When we finally arrived the same agent was working and had our van all ready to go. I did not catch his name but he was very tall and a great person to work with. He was busy and handled all of the customers very professionally. My experience is with the Enterprise in the Shannon airport Ireland. Many things did not work on the Volvo we rented and each day I called to tell them and I am still waiting a week later for a discount on the cost. Maps did not work, ac controls did not work had to roll windows up and down for air, the front passenger seat heater would not turn off and came on by itself. Renting from this location at the Shannon airport was fast, efficient and friendly. I would recommend taking full coverage just based on reviews in general with all car rental companies in Ireland. Contract was explained thoroughly. You have to leave a deposit also on the rental. When I returned the car I got my deposit back in less than 24 hours. Great experience with Enterprise in Shannon. I researched before we traveled and heard it is a very good idea to purchase the additional insurance option since we're Americans and this driving experience is the total opposite from everything we've ever been taught about driving. So I did, for 142 Euro's for the week, with a 250 Euro deductible. Luckily we didn't need to use it, but it gave us peace of mind as I've heard the stories about loosing the passenger side mirror on small roads in Ireland, or scratches from driving too close to the shrubs. Anyway, they were very detailed in explaining the contract to us. They even informed us of certain toll roads around the area and how to be prepared for that. We did not need the GPS option which they offered (I downloaded the Irish maps to my GPS before flying), but I would definitely recommend some sort of GPS whether you rent from them or do it yourself. Signage in Ireland can be a bit iffy. So after going through all of the documentation and such, they give you the keys and send you off to drive in complete terror for the next day or so. The opposite side of car and road was quite frightening at first, but you'd be surprised how quickly you adapt to it. For me, it only took about a day. After that it started to actually feel natural. The return process was a snap. We had no damage to our vehicle and they actually refunded us for turning the car in early in the day. I have nothing but good things to say about renting a vehicle here. First of all you need to decide whether or not you are purchasing extra insurance. That will determine how much you end up paying as those fees can be high. Once you decide on insurance you can go in and let them know what extra services you may need (GPS which I HIGHLY recommend). I wouldn't suggest you prepay for gas as you can always bring it back full tank. Just be careful driving and parking. Don't bring your vehicle back with scratches or dings. You'll pay dearly. I tried to rent from Enterprise at Shannon, but ended up paying more at the last minute to rent from one of their competitors. We arrived around noon on a Saturday, cleared customs easily, then joined the long slow- moving line for Enterprise. Enterprise had the longest line of any of the rental companies, and only one person working the counter. Halfway through filling out the paperwork once I finally got to the counter the guy behind the desk said he'd have to check whether they had an automatic compact available-the type of car I had reserved. He didn't know how long it was going to take to find out whether they had the car, or when it was going to be ready, and after dealing with the people behind me he left the counter to check on the cars. After about 10 minutes he still wasn't back so I rented a car elsewhere, and was done and on my way to the shuttle before he got back. The gent who was working the counter was quite helpful, polite, and offered numerous apologies to everyone that morning; I feel like Enterprise screwed up by not having enough people working, or having enough cars ready. read more

We rented online, were given a brand new vehicle with automatic transmission and was on the road in less than an hour after landing in Shannon airport. After a long haul flight, I was unfortunately greeted by one of the Enterprise employees in Shannon Airport. I had rented a car online and had the required documents to hand (or so I thought!). While being served by a lovely lady, who requested a card to secure payment for any potential damages etc. we were interrupted by one of the least helpful, rudest person I have ever come across within the "customer service" industry. For this transaction, I only had a visa card, and was not aware that only a credit card with the driver name was accepted for deposit. This payment had to be held until the car was returned and therefore only a credit card could be used. Instead of explaining the reason that this was required, the interuptee was nothing but ignorant. When I asked what options I had as I needed to travel to Dublin for work - I was simply told "you can walk over to the other car rental companies and see what their policies are". Being a sales person I would have thought firstly - that you would offer some sort of solution in order to keep my custom given the competition for car rentals in Shannon Airport. Secondly, that you would be aware of the policies of your competitors so one could secure a sale over your competitor. And finally, I am sure I wasn't the first person ever to not have a credit card with my name on it, so what solution have you offered previously? Rented a car recently having arrived from overnight US flight. Was strong-armed into taking the 'optional' extras Damage Waiver, Excess Protection by Dave. I was told that there is no option but to pay the insurance which I know to be untrue. The total cost almost doubled to 450 Euros from original quote. I will never rent from this Bait and Switch company again-there are many other more cost effective, upfront car rental companies out there. read more

My husband and I went to Ireland for our anniversary and we rented a car here to drive for most of our 2 week stay in Ireland. We originally picked up our car from Dublin, Ireland and had to drop it off at Shannon Airport to fly back home. We had an early flight and luckily they were open when we arrived at 7 am. There was only one person working and he was extremely nice and thoughtful and let us know that we can just keep our luggage in the car since he can drive us straight to the departure gate (since he was not expecting anymore more customers that early to checkin/checkout).
