Rented a vehicle from here as always and everything is usually good. One huge problem this time... What is the first thing a person in this age does when getting into the car? If you guessed it; its plugging up their phone to charge up and talk. Unfortunately, the phone jacks in my vehicle wouldn't charge my phone which made for a terrible cross state drive cause I had flown in and my phone was dead. I got to my destination and call Enterprise. I told them(Charlie) how disappointed I was and he assured me someone would call me soon as I wanted some kinda credit for this because it was a big deal. Almost five hours later and no call. Its a one day rental and I can't do the driving I planned. What a waste. Cmon Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Enterprise. Y'all are usually very good about handling things. All I received is a reference number 35321143. Get this resolved soon, please. I'd hate to dispute this otherwise. I may overlook this terrible inconvenience if you show me some love on the price or give me a nice rental voucher or some. I'm patiently awaiting... I finally had someone to reach out to me from Birmingham. He was willing to do what I felt was right. I requested at least half off since I did need and used the vehicle anyways. I guess that is fair. One simple necessity became a headache that day because I had to handle some urgent matters that were put on hold. Thanks for reaching out and I'm glad things were resolved. 10/18 after having a customer service failure over the fence at Hertz/Dollar, I was able to book a car rental via Priceline just over at Enterprise. Just a short walk from the terminal to the car rental center, there were two enterprise employees assisting customers, both who for the duration of my short 15-20minutes there kept their composure positive and professional the whole time. Like me, there were multiple customers who arrived, also inconvenienced by the BHM Hertz/Dollar rent-a-car team, some customers did not show the Enterprise team patience however these 2 kept their cool. Shout out to LJ! She personally assisted me, did not try to upsell any additional coverage, although I asked to add LDW and roadside assistance, she was delighted to add it for me, and even provided her recommendations on her favorite BBQ places as a local. She turned my day around and I'm so appreciative of her. She also hooked it up with a very nice rental. Thank you LJ!!! read more

Enterprise completely dropped the ball on our rental experience. The first vehicle we were given was a Chevy Traverse. It started making weird mechanical noises almost immediately and felt unsafe to drive. We returned it right away. Next, we were given a Chrysler Pacifica -- a minivan, which wasn't what we reserved or wanted. It also came with only half a tank of gas and had no windshield wiper fluid. Basic stuff that should never be overlooked. After making six different calls to Enterprise customer service, we were told that the Birmingham Airport location in Alabama had a Yukon, an Expedition, and several other full-size SUVs available -- the kind of vehicle we actually needed. But when we got there and spoke to two different managers, none of those vehicles were available. Instead, we were handed a much smaller Dodge Durango that smelled like cigarette smoke and had ants crawling around inside. Three different vehicles. Three major problems. Mechanical issues, misleading information, poor communication, dirty cars, and being handed the wrong type of vehicle -- this experience was a mess from start to finish. We will not be renting from Enterprise again. Zero stars if that were possible. read more

We got in late Friday evening to the Birmingham airport due to flight delays. We had reservations with another company but when we got to the desk no one was there. We called the 800 number and were told we were SOL until the next morning. Standing in the garage I noticed the manager from Enterprise was still there closing up. I happen to get his attention and he said he could help and provide us a car. Unfortunately I didn't catch his name, but he was friendly, helpful and very professional not to mention a lifesaver. Within minutes we had a peppy Mazda SUV and were off on our way. Honestly a special thanks to the gentleman who helped us out. Not sure what we were going to do if he didn't help us out. I was given the wrong car as a rental. I drove from Birmingham to Huntsville without knowing it was a fully electric vehicle! After going down to 20% charge, I was frantic to change out for a regular gasoline car. I was scheduled for several things and my time was limited. The people at Birmingham Airport Enterprise and Huntsville Airport Enterprise worked feverishly to find me a replacement vehicle on this 4th of July holiday weekend. On Friday December 13th I had to put my car in the shop for repairs. So I needed a rental car for a week while waiting. So December 14th, 2024 I went to the New Pelham location and Mike Matthews was very professional, provided above and beyond service, and genuinely cared about my needs. I must admit I was not easy to deal with and turned down multiple vehicles because I wanted something comparable to what I drove daily. Through all my dramatic statements and anxiety of thinking about driving in a basic car. Mike Matthews helped me by finding a vehicle and washing it just to provide me with what I needed to be a satisfied customer. Verify pricing before renting. I called to rent an suv and was told the total price would be $97 with unlimited mileage. They even gave me the address location of where to drop off the car because I was not returning it to the original location. After arriving at the local store, I was told the total price would be $296. Evidently there is a $150 fee for a one way trip. I was stuck at that point. I rented the car and made arrangements to return the car to the point of origin. Very deceptive. And they also gave me a toyota carry instead of an suv. My husband at 6'1" would barely fit in the car. On the upside, the staff at Lawrenceville, Georgia Hurricane Shoals location, was awesome. They helped up out tremendously. read more

Be very careful with this location. There's a guy that will screw you over if you're not paying attention. To be more specific, look out for the African American with burnt skins. You cannot miss this man. I was charged for an upgrade that I didn't request. He added a bunch of other fees that I didn't request as well. Renting a car in Birmingham at the airport can be a harrowing experience with long waits, cars that are unavailable, incompetence, and general mayhem. While I want to be cautious with doling out five stars just yet, my recent experience at Enterprise was much, much better than my last two experiences with different companies at this airport. 1. I booked on line. The lady waiting on me at the airport explained my insurance options and had me out the door in less than 2-3 minutes. Couldn't believe it. 2. There were not only vehicles available in the class I had reserved, there were also options!! 3. When I returned my vehicle, they had me checked out in less than two minutes. 4. Birmingham airport has a wonky set up for car rental. Often the Enterprise counter in the rental car area is closed. If this is the case, simply go out the door to their booth inside the parking garage. read more

Rented a car. Left my prescription glasses in the vehicle. I've been calling them for weeks now to try to retrieve them and the phone just constantly rings for 30+min. Spoke with an Alicia one time after the phone rang for over 30min. She told me she would check the car personally and never called me back and I can't reach anyone at the location. Called main enterprise customer service they gave me several numbers to that location, and they said they can't do anything for me or make this location call me back. Enterprise Rent-A-Car- Birmingham, AL Airport Rental: Had a booking for Friday evening, to pick up a car. Flight was delayed from Houston, staff assured me they could see delayed flight and would have an agent wait for me, to still pick up the car. Arrived and NO ONE was there. When I called, they said too bad- I would have to pay for a hotel that night and come back the next morning. The next day NO refund of any kind was given for the hotel. I had lost my ID on the flight, so they would not let me rent the car either that day, but was told once I had my license scanned and sent to them, they would take care of it. I sent the manager a copy of my new scanned license on October 24th, 18 days ago, and still the manager nor anyone else has bothered to contact me. Disgraceful service, bad business, and was told by the security officer on duty at the airport, that this happens REGULARLY, to people who arrive on late flights. PLEASE do not use them if you are booking a late flight. I am disgusted at their business ethics and lack of any refund towards the car or hotel. I wasn't hugely pleased with the smell in the car- smelled like weed and cigarettes smoke- the smell really doesn't bother me especially since I'm not using the car a huge amount but I obviously didn't want to be charged for a smell I didn't create. I recently tried to get me a rental car to go out of town. When I spoke to their agency they said that I could rent the car and can pay with a debit card. When I went down there to get my car they gave me and my husband a big run around stating that they don't take debits anymore. My husband and I were visiting Birmingham for 4 days and needed a rental car. I chose Enterprise based on price, and we had a really great experience. We didn't have to wait at all to either get a car, or drop off the car when we brought it back. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and due to lack of cars, we got a free upgrade on our reservation. When we returned the car, they didn't even checked to see if we'd filled the car up - just asked and took our word for it. We recently dealt with Enterprise in Los Angeles, which was a hellacious experience, so it's nice to see that this company can provide better customer service elsewhere. My daughter and I arrived on a Friday at 6 in the middle of a pandemic. Kaycee to the rescue! Kaycee was the enterprise rep who did everything in her power to help us when the car we had reserved was not available. There were at least 30 people waiting in line. Given that we were/are in covid times so things are a lot more difficult but Kaycee remained patient and helpful. She managed to find us a car to rent and maintained an amazing attitude and was so smart and helpful. I was so impressed with her ability to do so many things at one and make it look so effortless. She deserves a gold medal and a pay raise. Enterprise is doing it right by employing people like Kaycee. Well done to Kaycee - she's the best!! read more

When I checked in, they tried to give me a compact when I paid for an intermediate. I refused it so they gave me a Jeep that was sitting on the lot instead. I waited about 15 mins for it. When we started going over the car, the girl asked someone else if they wanted to take over. He said no and they laughed about that. Meanwhile, I'm in town for work and I really need to leave while they're messing around. I got in and realized the car reeks of smoke. I told the girl and she asked if I wanted another car and pointed to the one another guy is getting into and says never mind. After driving away, I also realize the Jeep hasn't been cleaned at all. I chose Enterprise based on their competitive pricing. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the service here compared to some of the Enterprise locations in my home city (Houston). There was quick service at the counter, but even quicker service at the walk-up kiosk which I chose to use. After I finished at the kiosk, a very cordial young man took me out the the lot and made sure that everything in the car was working. He connected the GPS and set my route and additionally loaded my bags into the back so I could get on my way. Returning the car was the easiest return I have ever had. Isaac met me out on the lot, took the mileage, got my bags out, and made sure I had a pleasant experience with the car. He was just GREAT!!!! This location should be the training center used as an example of EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE for all rental car companies. They are a cut above the rest. read more

The only thing was when I returned the car three days later, since it was early in the morning and they were not open, I had a hard time figuring out where to leave the car. This is a review for Enterprise as a whole, not just Birmingham, as I dealt with 5 branches. Do not rent a car with Enterprise. 2. Enterprise Corporate Ladies and Gents: you need to rehash your Employee Training Handbook, or is there not one? I wouldn't be surprised. No one knows what the heck is going on OR how to provide this "exceptional" customer service of which you speak. Enterprise clerks have not been trained on how to handle, well, anything: a. (Bham Airport) When I reserve a Dodge Grand Caravan because I need the most space possible with the awesome seats that fold down into the flooring, I would like a Dodge Grand Caravan "or similar" as you state. Not an SUV or Pathfinder because "The van is on the top floor" and your employee is too lazy to retrieve it. I shouldn't have to apologize for wanting to rent the car that I reserved. I received my Dodge Grand Caravan at the painstaking expense of Employee A. b. (Bham Airport) When I call in to say that the air conditioning in my Dodge Grand Caravan has stopped working, and that I am halfway through Mississippi, and your clerk tells me "I don't know what to tell you. Maybe just google a nearby branch and see if you can switch it out? *Click*" Where is the customer service in that?! YOU have rented me a faulty car, and I have to do the work to get it fixed??? No? Oh, I'm supposed to call roadside assistance? Ok, well I did that next: c. (Roadside Assistance) GREEAT customer service on the phone. Really patient and understanding of annoyance as I am moving cross-country from Alabama to California in a blistering hot car. "Where is your destination this evening? -- Ok, Dallas has an airport location and we can get you switched out without any problem. -- Let me put you on hold while I call to verify that they have a van like you require." After 15 minutes on hold, I hung up to let her call me back when she was ready. She called to report that she was unable to get anyone on the phone, but that vans are common at airports and it should be fine and "Is there anything else I can help you with?" ...... c. Perhaps you need to clarify beak times with your employees. No one EVER seems to be at their desk where they should be. Are you paying them to all just hang out in waiting room recliners (Love Field, TX - ran behind the desk when we walked in) or airport curbs with a cigarette (Birmingham - left us waiting at the desk for 20 minutes) or God knows where at your "24HOUR" Customer Service Center? You may not think you are, but you are. That night, I checked Dallas Airport's inventory and did not see a comparable van, so we decided to try Love Field in the morning, but I wanted to call that night to verify that they had a van for me to switch to. I called 4 times. No one answered. I called 24Hour Customer Service pretty irate at this point (are you keeping track of how many phone calls I am having to make here? A broken record.). Some poor guy helped angry me. He verified "a comparable van" at Love Field but wanted me to call to be sure it would be a model that works for me, stated that "Sometimes the desks will only answer at this time of night (9:30pm) if it's a company number. Let me try transferring you so that your call shows up that way." (HOW IS SELECTIVE PHONE ANSWERING GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE?!) Big surprise: No. One. Answered. We went in the morning to explain the story for the EIGHTH time. Got another van. Out of room-So much ranting left in me. What do I think should've happened in this scenario? When we called Bham with our initial issue, Customer A should've been well versed in the company practices to say "Oh! You actually need to speak with Roadside Assistance!" but let's take this a step further, shall we? Perhaps they could say, "Can I get your best phone number for contact? Where are you now, and where is your next destination? No worries, enjoy your trip, and a rep will give you a call once it's all sorted. If you need to follow up, please call Roadside Assistance at xxx-xxx-xxxx and provide them the reference number #####." Maybe I would get a phone call, say, 20 minutes later from Roadside Assistance because everyone would be AT THEIR DESKS and ANSWER THEIR PHONES, and the nice representative would tell me "Hello, Ms. Wilson. Sorry you're having trouble with the van we lent you! I don't have a replacement at Dallas Airport, but we've got a good selection at Love Field Airport just 20 minutes away. What time shall I tell them to expect you?" End Scene. But did that happen? No, because THAT would be exceptional customer service. read more

It would have been mice if the management tried to help me out but there was no willingness to acknowledge my predicament or look for alternative solutions. I'm very disappointed and have spoken with Enterprise's corporate office. They have been even less helpful. I'm talking with my employer and trying to convince them to for a partnership with a different rental car agency. I understand if you have a policy, but that doesn't mean you should treat your customers poorly. I give this one star because I understand people have to follow corporate policy but Enterprise's corporate policy is abominable. My friend's mother died so she had to fly into Birmingham. Our other friend reserved a car for her at this particular store. Never in the entire process did anybody say that they were unable to rent to somebody using a debit card or without a return flight. She didn't have her return flight because she wasn't sure how long it would take to plan a funeral and clean out her mother's home. She doesn't have a credit card because she doesn't use a credit card. When she asked if she could use one of our credit cards, she was told no. The worst part of all of this is that earlier in the day, three of us tried to call this particular office in order to speak to somebody to tell them my friend missed her flight and was going to be on a later one. The phone just rang - nobody picked up, no voicemail. How can you run a business where customer service is key and not have a working telephone number? Had any one of us gotten through, we could have had a conversation with somebody and possibly averted disaster. Instead, this poor woman dealing with the grief of losing a loved one was turned away. On a positive note, Anthony just a few counters over at Avis was incredibly lovely and hooked my friend up with a car. It goes without saying but I'm going to say it anyway, I will never rent from Enterprise again - and you used to be my go-to rental car agency. But for the customers you will continue to have, I implore you to take another look at a corporate policy that doesn't favor said customers and maybe get yourself a working phone number at all your branches. read more

The lack of training at this location is a mess. After being quoted one price, charged almost twice that, told by a manager that it was my fault, having to email, tweet, and yelp about it for four days before getting a response... A manager finally called, apologised, and offered me the original quoted price. He was awesome and the reason why they get three stars and not one. However, lo and behold, we go to return the car and they charge us yet another arbitrary number and then can't refund it once they are told that we were actually supposed to get a refund. We got the refund so it's all good now, but jeez! Thank goodness for that one good manager, but they really need to work on training the staff. read more

They had someone there in the office steal our identity and credit card information. Used our checking account to pay off the card and sent a new card to Mississippi. They cleaned out our account of over 5000 dollars . They have someone there stealing or selling information. The response from Enterprise is very disappointing . We were told to file a police report and they will let the police handle It! They are not going to do anything including investigate their own employees who are stealing from your customers? I do not live there so I cannot easily file a police report .We will get the money back but this will not protect other customers from identity theft that will not be handled by Enterprise . I am horrified at the lack of compassion given to a grieving friend this evening by an employee at this branch. Enterprise would not rent a car to my friend, traveling because of her mother's death, because she didn't have a return flight booked (I can't wait to connect with a representative to find out why that policy is in place) and didn't have a credit card (she only has and uses debit). No one's asking for special treatment or for any rules to be broken, but there was a reservation in place, and having booked it myself, I was at no point alerted or notified that this was a policy. Not only did this employee offer zero sympathy to a grieving woman at 11:30pm at night after a day of traveling across country, but was dismissive and curt. Let alone going out of his way to propose any kind of possible solution. I would really like to think that one of the country's most highly rated car rental companies would hire and train employees, that are acting as the face of their business, to act more humane. I'm so disappointed. I urge anyone with car rental needs at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth airport to forgo Enterprise and go to Avis. They were able to work with her to find a solution that was mutually beneficial, and all with a warm attitude. I'm grateful to them for taking care of my friend. read more

I was surprised at this location to not receive Eye contact or a greeting other than hello by anyone behind the counter. I had to ask what types of cars they had available and when they had nothing that I preferred to rent, I had to inquire what the options were. Nothing was offered, and I'm a platinum member. I was just a little surprised by the lack of initiative. Usually Enterprise goes above and beyond, and this location fell a little flat. I had hoped that they would redeem themselves on the return, but it was the same, no dialogue other than "you're returning?" And they were not what I would call busy at all during the pick up or return. I use enterprise locations all over the country, this was the worst one by far. Bait and Switch - please refer to the other posts as well. The location at 185 Eastern Blvd, Montgomery, will ask you if you want to take additional insurance. They will trick you into initialing the contract, pretending you are initialing for the condition of the car, instead, you are initialing for extra insurance!!!! I distinctly told them I did not want additional insurance, but low and behold, over $250 in insurance shows up on my credit car. These agents make commission whenever they sell you these garbage, so they will do everything the can to trick you. BEWARE. I gave I star because there was no zero stars. I'm extremely disappointed in the service i received. I made reservations 10/22 to rent a car for 1 day from Birmingham airport in AL and return it to Tuscaloosa, AL. When I reserved it the gentleman that assisted me was very nice and sounded knowledgeable. He reassured me that by entering my flight information the location is guaranteed to stay 2 hrs past closing time to make sure I can pick up the rental when I arrive in AL. Our flight ended up being 30min late. As soon as i found out I called Enterprise and spoke to a lady. That assured me the same thing. She looked up my reservation and stated it did show my southwest airline reservation and that they would be available when we land to rent the car. As soon as we got off the plane, we went straight to the rental car area at about 130am. No one was at the counter and no one was at the pick up booth in the garage. I called Enterprises and the gentleman that I spoke with said he didn't know why 2 people told me 2 hrs. He said they only stay back 1 hr.and they won't open till 630am. So I will have to wait. He stated that he filled out the complaint and the manager would call me today. It is 8pm and i never recieved a call. Apparently they dont care that they left a customer without a rental that had a resevation at 130am. This is just ridiculous. We had assumed by talking to 2 people and making this reservation we would have had no problems. You didn't care that you left us stranded at 130am and have to wait till 630am to leave the airport. I'm extremely disappointed in the service that I received. You obviously don't put enough effort into providing your employees with the training tools they need to do their job. It's not the employees on the call center line. They are friendly and helpful and only have the tools you give to them. On the other hand you don't hold the staff at the location accountable for their customer service. Several employees and cops at the airport told me that this happens all the time. Customers are left stranded because their flight comes in after closing time and they are stuck waiting. Well my husband and I didn't feel that you were worth the wait and worth out money. So we found another way of getting a ride. This isn't a big city, it's not like we have many options at 130am. I can tell you right now. Going forward. As long as I have a choice, I will not choose to use you. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of caring and customer service that we received last night. I will make sure to tell as many people about my horrible experience. I hope one day you fly into an airport, thinking you are set with your reservation. Walk to the counter only to find out that they have closed for the day. Knowing you were coming as soon as your plane landed, after a long work day, rushing to the airport and leave you stranded with no ride and have to wait more than 5hrs for the counter to open. They were great. Nolen was especially wonderful, not only did they stay 10 mins late after they were supposed to be closed because of my flight delay, they were still super pleasant and nice! There was a flight delay on my trip to Birmingham on Nov. 16th. I arrived at 8:30 pm instead of 6:30 pm and when I got there, the car I had originally rented, a Dodge Avenger, turned into a 2015 Mustang! They told me to take it at the same rental price as my original rental due to lack of inventory. Being in the Hospitality business for the past 29 years, this is what I call customer service!
