WARNING! WARNING! Must Read. This place is pretty much just…read morescamming people now to cash grab from their customers. They charged me $1500 for a very minor chip. (Pics will be attached). This chip was smaller than a 2 Euro and even 1 Euro. Which when picking up the lady told me not worry about it as it's smaller than a 2 Euro they will not charge for and it's so small. Pretty much I agreed it was very small. HOWEVER!!! when I went to turn in the car this is when the fun started. The guy receiving the car literally came out with a bottle of water and wash cloth. He squatted down an proceeded to polish the entire outside of the car from bumper to bumper. He found the minor chip and started asking me if I was in an accident. Please look at picture attached. You will see this in no way can be even considered an accident. Picture says it all. I told him no and he was saying I was definitely in an accident. I show him how its smaller than the 1 Euro in pocket and he is still telling me its major damage and he has to fill out an accident report. This guy is so off base it's not funny. He kept telling me not to worry about as my Amex will pay for all the damage. I'm not ok with one company just charging off damage to another large company just to bail them out of a financial crisis. I would avoid Europcar at all cost. It's clear they are taking their losses out on you the customer. They charged me $1500 for that. Crazy high amount for that minor little ding. To Europcar. I've tried for 3 weeks now reaching out via phone and email to help resolve this as I do not like just leaving negative reviews. I would have preferred you have reached me back so I could see if something could have been resolved and I could have upped my stars. However, it's apparent you're just in the business of taking money and not caring.

I rented a car from Europcar UK in Belfast for one week. The car was fine, like any other hire car…read more The trouble started when I was wrongly charged for £4.94 for 4L of fuel that the tank was apparently short when returned. Despite me filling the tank before leaving for the airport (I have proof of this action in my bank statements) and also checking the gauge when I dropped it off. I was not informed of any issue with the car after my hire period by Europcar, they took the money from my credit card without asking or informing me of the reason. I only discovered the problem a month later when my credit card statement came. Meaning all receipts/evidence could not be found. Luckily I paid by bank card, and I have evidence of me filling the car up on my statement. It took me over a week to get any sense out of their customer care team, with one person completely getting all the figures wrong. I was informed there was a mistake made in Belfast, but not given any apology and they tried to claim I had already been refunded the extra money. After many emails and phone calls, I finally got the money refunded, without a proper explanation for what had gone wrong, but I did get an apology for the inconvenience. After basically demanding one. I have now just received a phone bill for over £10 for all the calls I had to make to their customer care line, as the person handling my case hadn't a clue what they were doing!!! I am disgusted that they have charged me so much just to sort out their own mess, and that they feel they can take money off people's credit cards without any prior notification, system of appeal and apology. Basically a kind of theft. Simon Fullerton

I booked my car online the night before. I showed up at the car rental kiosk area to pick it up and…read moreevery other car rental company had a representative present ... except for Hertz. I asked around and was told the Hertz rep was by the airport terminal so I had to walk all the way over there to grab him and then walk all the way back to the parking lot kiosk to pick up my car. I guess they're understaffed, which is undertaking. I told the representative that I wanted the full insurance coverage and he informed me that the super cover insurance package would cover everything and that in the event of an accident or breakdown I could leave the keys and just walk away. No charge. Being an American, I wanted to make sure I encountered no problems with my rental, so I opted to get this full coverage option. The representative never mentioned there was additional coverage I could buy and when I asked about personal insurance, he said it wasn't necessary, and that my super cover insurance would take care of everything. Once on the road, I experienced two flat tires. I called the Hertz representative and was informed that the cost to replace the tires would not be covered by my premium coverage, which was news to me. He stated the best solution would be for me to purchase the tires myself and simply have Hertz refund me. In other words, I was on my own. I also realized in the process of making all these calls that the rental agreement emails I had received from Hertz had very little information in general and virtually no information on what to do if anything happened or even what my super coverage insurance package included. I called around and luckily there was an auto service that was willing to come to me and replace the two tires. They don't typically do that, but i think they could tell i was desperate. In total, the service cost 228 pounds. This whole process took some time as instead of Hertz coming out, I had to find a local tyre service that had the tires and could drop it off at my location. By the time I returned, I had no time to refill the gas. I had purchased train tickets so I had no choice but to return the vehicle without refueling. I was also never informed that the cost for returning the car without refilling all the way would be triple the cost of the gas used. Right after I returned the car, I sent in a request for a reimbursement for the tires per the rep's recommendation, but it's been two weeks and I have yet to hear anything back besides one automated email. Overall, I had a terrible experience with Hertz and found them to be very unreliable and unhelpful. If your rental experience is smooth sailing and you don't need a lot of service, you should be fine going with Hertz. But if you in any way encounter issues or end up needing help from customer service, my recommendation: go with any other car rental company.

ABRIDGED VERSION don't rent from Hertz if you do not want to pay for your spouse/partner as…read moreadditional driver, the one star is for Hertz as a corporation not the folks working at the counter, the two I dealt with were nice guys but suggest they work for another car hire company. UNABRIDGED DIATRIBE.......... I booked cars in both Belfast City Airport and Heathrow and specifically verified before travel that I would not be charged for spouse as additional driver which is a benefit of Hertz Gold and AAA. Belfast City Airport - After a 10 hour overnight flight from the USA's left coast and a connection via Heathrow, we just wanted to get to the hotel, instead I have to spend 30 minutes telling the Hertz agent, a very helpful personable young guy, that I verified with Hertz before leaving the US that spouse would be free and I am not paying 9 pounds per day more for an additional driver. He figured out how to remove the charge. The car was a Nissan Micra, a tin can of a car, with a big dent in one of the doors but it did not break down so that was a plus. When I return the car, a different Hertz agent, also a friendly sort, assures me that I will have no trouble in England because it is in the "U.K"...HUH? Last time I checked Northern Ireland was in the UK, he says this is Ireland and the rules are different. But despite his sincere assurance that Heathrow would not be a problem, it was, once again 'computer says no' and we go through the same routine all over again..... see my review of Hertz Heathrow for the details. The poor Hertz employees are the front line, they should not have to enforce ridiculous policies designed to confuse customers (and the employees themselves). I do not fault the employees. Hertz needs to standardize its policies world wide and eliminate the additional driver fee for spouses/partners. I recently rented from Avis, no charge to add spouses, domestic partners, employers, employees or companion drivers for disabled renters. Good riddance to Hertz, I also cancelled the "FREE" Hertz Gold member that starts to auto bill $60 annually after the first year, canceled the membership (which was not that easy...another 30 minutes of my life wasted)

This is after it took nearly two hours of being put on hold just to be sent to another line to be put on hold to be transferred again. We had broken down in a busy intersection with no ability to pull off the road and NO ONE would escalate our case or send a tow truck. After two hours, we finally got a tow, and then absolutely none of the costumer service people could tell us info on where to tow to. We towed to the airport simply because we made a choice so that the tow driver could move on. All of this ended up making us miss the first half of a pre-paid tour worth about $100, and then we had to pay about $70 for a cab to make it AFTER CLOSING to the rest of our tour (worth about $200) , which we only managed to get to keep because that manager stayed half an hour late for us. It has been five days since they put in their claim with ZERO contact with updates at all, despite us emailing them twice. Neither the home phone nor my cell phone works with the customer service number we were given. Lost over 4-5 hours of our trip, over $200 , only had a functional car for about 15 minutes, and I believe they will try to charge me for $2000 after giving us a non functional car. Have received NO updates or replies. I would never go anywhere near this company. It will ruin your vacation.
