This is an essential oil store in a league on its own. Yes, the customer service is a bit awkward and stilted, but I kind of don't care--I would prefer to be left alone in silence while I spend half an hour, in a trance, sniffing everything. As long as they let me do that (and very much they encouraged it), I'm happy. I walked in thinking this was going to be something like Saje, which weirdly doesn't exist in NYC, but naw man. The fact that they distill their own frankincense and have a couple variations of rose, thyme, fir, etc. means they mean serious fucking business. I am impressed that they carry blue lotus, blue tansy, and tons of other oils that I've never even heard of before until I came here. I asked about their blends, which they carry a limited selection compared to their pure oils. At first I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more, but honestly? When you smell the pure oils, they are of such high quality that they don't really need to be blended. They are so complex and rich, they can easily be diffused on their own. It's very expensive. Eyewateringly so. But I'm happy to splurge on what seems to be the best of what exists (that is, that's available to consumers like me, not necessarily top-tier perfumers). read more

I saw a TikTok video recently about an antique perfumery tradition called enfleurage, where a woman captured the scent of freshly picked honey suckle with just a glass tray and some coconut oil. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the real deal -- Enfleurage NYC -- only days later. The gentleman who helped me was so nice and informative. I could've stayed in the shop for hours -- and spent every last dollar. I purchased a roll on amber scent that smells like sand dunes, and camp fires, wild honey and tree sap. It's gorgeous and one of the nicest fragrances I own. I love expensive and niche perfumes -- but now I'm not sure I could go back to Frederic Malle or Serge Lutens with the same expectations. There's something far more immersive and seductive about the fragrances at Enfleurage. It's almost like you become the tuberose when you put on the oil, instead of it becoming this sort of surface level costume you wear around for a day. Plus, even better, the fragrances and oils are so reasonably priced, too. I'm just sad I only found out about this shop now -- after living in the city for 15 years. Tomorrow, I'm going back for the white flower roll on -- as well as a few gifts for friends. They don't even have to be lit to fragrance a small area, but when it is the fragrance will fill the room with a warm, invigorating scent. The fragrance oils are high quality and well packaged. I initially found Enfleurage at a booth in Soho. But our best nostalgia are from its time on Bleeker Street. A time when those cute carved inlay soaps were all the rage and so were the scrubs and wide range of rare oils. I get it--the owners eliminated all indy products from their store--and I understand. But we're still mourning the death of some of their treasured stock and feeling like a lost child ever since. Like the pricey but oh so very worth it salt scrub that contained a "kitchen sink" range of essential oils and aromatics. Pure godliness in a glass jar with a flip lid that regretfully succumbed to my slippery butterfingers and smashed on my bathroom floor on at least 3 different occasions with me literally crying over it and scooping it back up like a psychopath pouring over precious diamonds... Immediately returning to Enfleurage to buy more. Yes, we spoke. Yes, it was a pain in the ass to make. But it's worth hundreds of dollars per jar and devotees will pay for it. Yay, a new place for me to buy more things I don't need, like Sandalwood. Happy this place is still in business as it was my first time visiting a few weeks ago. The man who was there was really friendly and helpful. I like the selection of oils and sprays and think the quality is great. A dear friend/neighbor came to my rescue with a bottle of aloe from here when I burned my hand cooking one night. It worked wonders. We'd made our way through it and I'd planned to order online... given the impeccable quality of their products, I chose to source some essential oil blends to diffuse during a meditation / yoga retreat I'm hosting & to treat myself to a roll on of some rose oil. The store changed locations a bit over the years. The space is a whole lot smaller. Does it change anything? Nope! Still one of the finest olfactory muses in New York, if not the tri-state. Their body oils are consistently fantastic. Their essential oils are so effective that you only need a few drops, in a timed ceramic diffuser, to change the ambiance in a space. I love walking into the store, greeting the salesperson, and saying, "Hey friend I am here for the Sex!" Sex is one of their house oils, consisting of ylang ylang, patchouli, and lime. We both laugh hard. It never gets old. As far as frankincense, the owner grows her own, in Oman, and pulls the resin by hand, every few months. If that is not standing behind your product. Spring evokes many things that come to mind: renewal, sunshine, a new fragrance. I never really got into fragrances until two years ago when Vera Wang came out with Bouquet and I liked the floral scent that lingered for hours. After that year, Dior came out with Miss Cherie, a reintroduction of the Miss Dior fragrance to cater to a wider clientele. Anyway, this past week, I spent some time in dept. stores sniffing out new fragrances and read about quite a few that would have fit my personality. Unfortunately, some of the fragrances that I listed smelled generic and reminded me a lot of the fragrances I already had or it was fragrances that would probably suit my mother. I read up on Enfleurage through Yelp and their own website and was intrigued by the store. When I first came in, I was greeted warmly by the sales associate and was left alone to discover all the wonderful scenets before me. They have a wide range of essential oils from all over the world, from places like Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Vietnam. What surprised me the most was the way I was attracted to the smell of Cypress to the feminine smell Rose Attar (which is a mixture of rose and sandalwood). Those were two polar opposites. The sales associate spent a lot of time with me explaining the essential oils especially the categories that I would be attracted to. There was bergamot, a crisp, citrusy smell that tends to be a fan favorite, along with the more sensual smells of roses from Morocco, England, and India. I spent two hours poring over each smell and it annoyed me that my senses were so fickle but she said it's understandable as I'm new to the whole experience and it would take some time for me to understand. She also recommended some classes which would allow me to learn more about essential oils and it's therapeutic power along with being able to mix variety of scents together which sounded really cool. After switching off between the essential oils and constantly sniffing the cup of coffee beans to reinvigorate my sense of smell, I bought the rose attar. The prices depend on the availability of the oil based on season and it was about $20 for a 2mL bottle. Yes, it was expensive, but that scent just transports you to a dreamy stupor. read more

The owner does not dilute the oil with water and smell last a decent length of time. Only knock on this place is that it is kinda pricey but we have to splurge one in a while. Sure, I can't smell, but that doesn't mean I don't think aromatherapy won't work for me. Just because my brain can't interpret scents doesn't mean I miss all the calming effects. Thus I found myself at Enfleurage. That and I seriously needed some sandalwood EO for a new ritual oil I'm working on. Selection: Like all the reviews before me, I will say yet again that Enfleurage is an amazing store (with apparently a great smell that was lost on me) with quite a sizable selection. I went in knowing I need a few things (hemlock, sandalwood, frankincense, etc), and I found them easily enough. The essential oils are all lined up in alphabetical order. Most ar available in 5 and 10 ml sizes, although some of the more valuable are bottled into teeny tiny 2 ml vials. With everything from expensive agarwood to a yuzu peel EO (which I really wanted but was out of my price range that day), Enfleurage also has soaps, candles and a decent variety of aroma and scent books. They even had supplies for bottling and blending, as well as giant tubs of resin incense (and I think I saw some powder and cones as well). Venue: The owner, I assume, was ridiculously helpful. He allowed me to (attempt) to smell nearly all of the offerings, and made suggestions on what would be best for me. I ended up getting my hemlock, and a tangerine which I could actually smell! Both in 10 ml bottles, they set me back about $25 with tax, but he gave me a sample of tuberose shea butter (which, naturally I couldn't smell, but the boy says is very powerful). I think the prices are a bit high in some places, where accurate in others. There are definitely places online where you can buy EOs for less, so one less star for that, but count this as a 4.5 really. Why? Because the store is adorable, the staff is helpful, and it has a great selection. I recommend it for anyone who wants to avoid Enchantments' small dram sizes. read more

Of course there is the great selection of Essential Oils.. my favorite being the unsurpassed best quality Frankincense but .. Last minute scooping up of Benzoin, Myrrh, and Frankincense resin in NYC which is unheard of locally, I adore this place. I have bypassed local shopping for EO in the recent years for online shopping but really this store is a true NYC gem! And they have also have dried herbs and rose petals in apothecary jars.. As a licensed massage therapist in NYC with 15 years of experience and a private practice, Enfleurage is pretty much the only place I buy my essential oils. I've tried just about every brand of essential oil--Young Living, DoTerra, etc, and Enfleurage wins. The oils are super pure and fairly reasonably priced considering the high quality (good essential oils are never cheap). My clients love them too, and a handful have actually gone to the shop in the West Village (which is super cute) and bought oils there for themselves. The staff are excellent and totally know their stuff--I recently called with a slew of questions about the oils I was considering ordering, and Joey was insanely helpful and patient with me (thanks Joey!). I left this review some time ago but the yelp staff asked me to modify it, Well my experience in this tiny store was not pleasant; the staff was rude and not very helpful. I was informed that their oils were not therapeutic grade (it might have been a disgruntled employee, I don't know but he revealed this to me) that their oils were not therapeutic grade and in addition to that, they are SUPER diluted with carrier oils. If your goal is to use them as body perfume or to deodorize your home at a ridiculous price then buy away. One more tip- you can get better quality from the African guys in the street at a better price and for more quantity. read more

Situation: Needed some sandalwood powder for a facial mask [spa day at home anyone :D ] and couldn't find any at my local Whole Foods, which had been my first guess at who would have it. After doing a little internet digging, I found that one of the few places in the city to get sandalwood powder was Enfleurage. PROS -Helpful staff: I called beforehand to ensure they had what I was looking for and spoke to a Japanese gentleman (I forget his name, sorry!!), who confirmed that he had it and gave me the price. When I finally came into the store nearly a week later, he remembered me as the one who had called, impressive! The owner was also there, and I overheard him giving some other customers a detailed spiel about the origins and uses of the products they were interested in. -Neat & Organised: When you walk in, it is obvious that the store has a lot of love and care put into it. It is spotless, and everything is uber organised. -Good price: Now I can't say much about the stuff they sell besides the sandalwood powder that I bought, but it only cost me $8 for an ample amount, which I find very reasonable, since a business with not-so-honorable intentions and the knowledge that they are one of the very few providers of essential oils in the city might be tempted to really jack up the price. CONS -Nada. In a nutshell... Hassle free, positive experience. Couldn't be happier. Love this place! Great little aromatherapy shop. They have essential oils, candles, face wash spray, diffusers (i think that's what they're called), you name it. I'm a big fan of their candles - I had a frankincense one that was wonderful, really soothing. I just bought a geranium candle. It's a bit more intense, but soothing as well. Excellent quality and selection. The hydrosols are fabulous, especially Frankincense, which often sells out, and then there's a delay in getting it from Oman. But the store will kindly take your number and call you when it comes in. Really. Occasionally pricey but very good quality products. I also buy carrier oils and empty amber bottles for my own blends here. Resin incense and aromatherapy books are also on offer. I've taken some blending classes here, and the staff are super nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable about their trade/craft. A store like this is an increasing rarity in our new New York, so support it instead of buying lesser quality oils at Whole Foods or god forbid, a chain drug store. read more

Great place for oils and candles. The employee was so helpful and had a lot of knowledge about the products. It's a great place for little gifts. I had to buy a a couple glycerin bars of "lime" themed soap for so-workers of mine. The gift wrapping was free too. This store is adorable and reminds me why I love NY so much. Went here in search of a candle and although they only had 3 options (lavender, frankincense, and mandarin) I actually loved how they all smelled and had a tremendously hard time choosing one. I ultimately chose the frankincense and am so happy I did. It's such a warm and inviting scent like none I have ever smelled before. And the frankincense they use in the candle is actually directly from Oman which I thought was way cool! Also one of the owners, a kindly somewhat older man was one of the most lovably oddball men I have ever met. Just warm, lovable, quirky and ready for my adoption :). Not exactly what I was hoping for but a beautiful shop just the same. I have an oil that is a mix of scents that I am trying to match (I don't know what went into it in the first place) and when I brought it in the employee took a sniff and told me flat out I wouldn't be finding what I was looking for there. I appreciate the straightforwardness but a little more help would have been nice. I have a feeling that although what I had was a very pure scented oil, it wasn't quite "essential" enough to be found in what they focus on. It is small but they have a nice selection of essential oils, jars of resins and gums, bottles of hydrosols, and a few other things like soaps and diffusers. Good prices, nice variety of oils.
