A fun event and a great, but busy, time to be on Sea Pines. The tournament was well run from a fan…read morepoint of view. Easy and quick to get in, plenary is sitting Orion's, concessions were plentiful and there really weren't lines for any of it on Thursday or Friday. We were able to walk the course both days with ease and to really spend time watching a lot of golf on most every hole. If you are thinking about attending a golf tournament, this one ought to be up for consideration.

Congratulations to Georgia Tech alum Stewart Cink and his son and caddie Reagan Cink (who also…read moregraduated from Tech) for winning the 2021 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links this past Sunday. At age 47, Stewart Cink became the second player in the last 50 years to win two PGA Tour events in the same season (Kenny Perry did it twice). Cink also won his third RBC Heritage title, joining Hale Irwin in a tie for second for the most victories at this event. Davis Love III still holds the record with five wins. For as long as I can remember, the Heritage has been the first Tour event after the Masters. As such, its field isn't as star-studded and the event is relatively low key as a result. If I recall correctly, I once read/heard that the Heritage was voted the No. 1 stop on the Tour schedule for pro caddies because of Hilton Head Island and the event's overall laid-back nature. I believe it's also among some of the Tour players' favorite destinations of the year too, though I can't remember who said it. I've always been partial to this event because Hilton Head has been a regular vacation spot for our family since the 1980s and we have lots of memories at Harbour Town. For me, that includes rounds of golf with my dad on the same course this event is played on. It's always fun to watch the pros play a course you have first-hand familiarity with. Harbour Town is one of the shorter courses on Tour and the winning scores are usually quite low. Cases in point: This year, Cink won at 19-under 265 (par 71). Last year, Webb Simpson won at 22-under 262. Simpson's scores in 2020 were tournament records in both total strokes and score relative to par. Also, is it me or have a lot of golfers representing ACC schools won this event? Davis Love went to North Carolina and Webb Simpson went to Wake Forest. Matt Kuchar (Georgia Tech) won in 2014, Carl Pettersson (NC State) in 2012, and Arnold Palmer (Wake Forest) in 1969 (inaugural year). For the 2020-21 season, this event's purse was $7.1 million which is in the middle of the pack among Tour events. Of the five events that have "invitational" status, the Heritage has the smallest purse (Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Memorial Tournament, and Charles Schwab Challenge are the other four). Several tournaments bestow a jacket to its champion, the most famous one obviously being the green jacket at Augusta. At the Heritage, the winner is given a tartan (plaid) jacket. This event has made $45.8 million in charitable donations in South Carolina and Georgia since 1987.
