Dr. Priya O'Callaghan made the painful nightmare in my mouth peaceful again. Root canals are up there with getting a shot in your eyeball. No one wants one unless they HAVE to have one. Well, I had to fly unexpectedly to Berkeley early Sunday morning (I live in NM) and on Monday my tooth was angry and not happy. I went to Dr. Barry Kami, who I found on the Internet because of reviews, and he informed me that I would need a root canal and that he would make a call to Dr. O'Callaghan to see if she could fit me in given the fact that I was traveling and unsure of how long I would be staying in CA. Dr. O'Callaghan saw me right away, put me on antibiotics and scheduled me for a root canal the very next day. I'm not going to lie, I was anxious. When I got there, she stepped me through a breathing technique that really helped me throughout the procedure. It was painless (once that shot was in) but even w the shot, she has a great technique (I needed one in the roof of my mouth). The best part of it was that they have a special technology called the Gentle Wave that literally flushes out the bacteria in your root canal. It's like a deep cleaning spa day for your tooth (and that poor tooth needed it!) . They put this apparatus around the tooth and then it just swirls water around the tooth and canal for about 5 min. It cuts down on complications and I truly believe them given the fact that I am 12 hours out from my procedure and have zero pain.

The disposable not billed to insurance is on a surprise bill to the patient at $250!

I had a root canal operation with Dr. Fujimura a while ago…read more Googling keywords "endodontist Bay Area Japanese " discovered his practice in east bay. Making an appointment was fairly easy and they were flexible enough to accommodate me in the late afternoon. Atsushi Fujimura is a young provider whose core personality is very gentle and neat resulting in perfect bedside manner. He studied and received a degree from an Ivy League dental school giving both him and his patients peace of mind. I didn't have to get nervous at all when he came in to introduce himself. He made me believe I was in good hands. Root canal was done mostly without pain and without wasting time. His price was relatively on the high side, but I thought the quality of his performance well deserved it until the final 10 minutes of the procedure. Before the operation, the only thing I requested him to do was KEEP THE BITING SURFACE FLAT. I told him not to engrave the filling to make it look like a real tooth. Please--Keep---It---Even. Although he's been living in the states almost entire his life, he was born in Japan and born to Japanese parents from Kumamoto who would most likely keep Japanese as a household language. He should know what I asked in Japanese. He's Ivy league educated. He should be a bright person who knows what the fuck he's doing. Out of respect, I kept myself from reminding him of the only favor that I previously asked. All my positive assumptions about him came to a dead end when he started digging the freshly hardened filling. He was in fact, not understanding me very well. If I was him, I'd have fixed the grooves by adding more resin or redoing the process. He didn't. I should have warned him when he turned on the drilling device. And perhaps I should've initiated our conversation in English in the first place. After the op, he sent me xray copies like he said he would. He didn't leave me an antibiotic prescription like he said he would. While I was taking care of the due, he went out for walking his dog and I couldn't catch him. All emails sent from home were ignored so there was no follow up.

Since he is not the one that does that procedure, he was clearing prioritizing patient benefit over his own profit. I really appreciated his timeliness in getting me in, his kindness, and his good communication skills, as well as the competence, efficiency, and pleasant, helpful attitude of his staff. Hopefully I won't need a root canal in the future, but if I do, I will definitely want to see him again.

It's definitely worth a visit from the local health department. Several patients in the waiting area were coughing and my throat actually started burning after being inside just five minutes. 2. The waiting area is filthy. (I have photos.) It is not in good condition and it's apparent that it's not cleaned thoroughly. As a medical facility, this is unacceptable! The floor is disgusting. The area near the windows is covered in layers of dust and dirt. I don't believe they've ever cleaned their glass door. It's disgusting. I had an appointment at 8:00 am and to walk in as the first customer of the day to a dirty waiting room, is totally unacceptable. It's also proof that the facility wasn't thoroughly cleaned the day before. 3. They are never on time. I've had a wait even when I arrived 15 minutes early. This is unfortunate and clearly proves that they don't prioritize timeliness. 4. There are layers (literal layers) of dust and dirt on every blind. This is definitely not okay for patients that have respiratory problems or asthma. When was this facility last visited by the local health department? 5. I noticed many HIPAA violations by the front office staff. They openly discussed private patient info in front of a packed waiting room. This is unacceptable! According to their reviews, you can tell that my noticing isn't exaggerated. Do your due diligence and visit facilities before you make appointments. It's not okay to have to wait in an unsanitary space.

He made both my daughter and me feel informed, comfortable, and at ease throughout the whole process. The best way I can describe his presence is somewhere between Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross -- calm, kind, gentle, reassuring, and genuinely caring. You can immediately tell how incredibly knowledgeable and intelligent he is, yet what stands out even more is how humble he is. Even with all the Ivy League and elite schools he attended, there is absolutely no arrogance or bragging about him. He is deeply respectful, compassionate, and treats both his patients and staff with such kindness. His staff are also amazing -- very sweet, youthful in spirit, professional, and welcoming. Everyone there helps create such a peaceful and uplifting environment. Even the office itself reflects the care they put into everything. The bathroom and office are exceptionally clean, organized, and beautifully maintained. They also play such an eclectic variety of music that instantly helps calm your nerves and lift your spirit. What touched me the most was how Dr. Nealon cared for my daughter as though she were his own child. That level of sincerity and compassion means more than words can express. We truly appreciate Dr. Nealon and his staff, and are so grateful for the wonderful experience we had. May God continue to bless Dr. Nealon and his entire team abundantly. Thank you very much!
