EDITED: removed two stars. When I got into my swimming suit on my first day of vacation (48 hours…read moreafter the sugaring) I realized there were TONS of spots of hair on my upper legs. If I was not on a cruise ship where it was hard to get shave gel and razors I would have probably just shaved. I don't know if it is because they are more fine hairs on my upper legs, but there were giant patches of hair missed. I have never had this happen in my standard waxing experiences. I was shocked how much hair was left on my upper legs (baby fine hair) and over both knees. If this is a difference in sugaring versus waxing I will definitely have to stick with waxing as it looked like I had no hair removal done at all in big patches. Sooo bummed. ---- Original review: Overall a good experience. They were friendly and helpful making my appointments and the facility is clean. They're also easy to find. I had a number of services head to toe so they split my time between two estheticians. The first one was good but I felt like she talked almost too much. It felt forced and I am sure she was just trying to distract me but I just kinda wish I'd have been able to lay there quietly. I had asked to leave a strip of hair and she did but it was lop-sided and looked funny. I didn't realize it until I got home and ended up having to just shave the small area. The second girl was very friendly but was better and reading me and didn't push conversations. When it slowed down she let me sit quietly. She did a very good job and was even willing to clean up a few missed hairs by the first woman. I'm not sure I think sugaring is less painful than watching (which is what I'd heard and was why I tried it) but overall it was a good experience. If I went back I'd ask for the 2nd girl to do my whole service. Her name was Megan but she joked that they should call her "Emily" because there's 3 Megans that work there.

Here are my inspiration photos and then what she did to my hair. It was $275 before tip (and I still tipped 20%, because I'm a decent person). I think it's safe to say I didn't get what I came for at all. She was super excited to do my hair, so I assumed she would do it well. This was my first time in 6 years getting my hair professionally done instead of just doing it myself. I will continue to do my hair myself, as it's clear I cannot trust others to do it for me.

I booked an appointment at Salon Haven specifically with a stylist named Christina after a trusted…read morerecommendation. When I called, I was told she wasn't available Saturday but had an opening Friday at 10:30, which I booked and received a confirmation text for with Christina. When we arrived, no one introduced the stylist or mentioned any change. My daughter was taken back, and we went through the entire appointment under the impression she was with Christina. The haircut itself was not what was requested. My daughter brought reference photos, but the bangs were cut far too short and uneven, and the layering was incorrect. It was only after we left that I realized the stylist was not Christina at all. The business card we were handed when leaving said "Bailey," who isn't even listed on their website. The lack of transparency is unacceptable. If a client books with a specific stylist, they should be clearly informed of any changes beforehand. We would not have booked this appointment otherwise. To make matters worse, I reached out to the salon via email weeks ago to resolve this and never received any response. No acknowledgment, no follow-up, nothing. This appointment was for my daughter's birthday, which makes the experience even more disappointing. Based on both the service and the complete lack of accountability afterward, I would never recommend this salon.

Emily Langford is hands down the best aesthetician in the Southeast. My first appointment with her…read morewas about three years ago when she was offering a discount for a sugaring session. At the time, I was getting my brows threaded, however after my easy, painless sugaring appointment I figured I'd book an appointment for my brows as well. Since that day, I've been hooked. I see Emily about every 2-3 weeks to get my brows done. There's been a few occasions that I've been in a bind and I've had to see another aesthetician and their work doesn't measure up to what Emily can do. My brows are always even and have the perfect arch to them. She doesn't leave a single stray hair. Her brow waxing skills are a work of art to say the least. She will ensure that you leave Old City Medspa looking AMAZING! On top of her phenomenal aesthetician abilities, she's the sweetest, most down to earth human. She's easy to talk to during your appointment and she plays great music. She continuously checks on you to make sure you're comfortable, not in pain, ensures the wax isn't too hot, etc. Emily does so much more than just waxing brows. She's a sugaring queen to say the least! It would definitely be worth your time to book an appointment with her at Old City Medspa! Additionally, Old City Medspa has such an awesome atmosphere. They're located in one of the older buildings downtown. The spa has so much offer all their clients! Inside is so quiet and calming - a great place to book an appointment and just relax.
