EDITED: removed two stars. When I got into my swimming suit on my first day of vacation (48 hours…read moreafter the sugaring) I realized there were TONS of spots of hair on my upper legs. If I was not on a cruise ship where it was hard to get shave gel and razors I would have probably just shaved. I don't know if it is because they are more fine hairs on my upper legs, but there were giant patches of hair missed. I have never had this happen in my standard waxing experiences. I was shocked how much hair was left on my upper legs (baby fine hair) and over both knees. If this is a difference in sugaring versus waxing I will definitely have to stick with waxing as it looked like I had no hair removal done at all in big patches. Sooo bummed. ---- Original review: Overall a good experience. They were friendly and helpful making my appointments and the facility is clean. They're also easy to find. I had a number of services head to toe so they split my time between two estheticians. The first one was good but I felt like she talked almost too much. It felt forced and I am sure she was just trying to distract me but I just kinda wish I'd have been able to lay there quietly. I had asked to leave a strip of hair and she did but it was lop-sided and looked funny. I didn't realize it until I got home and ended up having to just shave the small area. The second girl was very friendly but was better and reading me and didn't push conversations. When it slowed down she let me sit quietly. She did a very good job and was even willing to clean up a few missed hairs by the first woman. I'm not sure I think sugaring is less painful than watching (which is what I'd heard and was why I tried it) but overall it was a good experience. If I went back I'd ask for the 2nd girl to do my whole service. Her name was Megan but she joked that they should call her "Emily" because there's 3 Megans that work there.

She highly recommended Melissa for brow/full face waxing and it was a really awesome experience. I have an event I was getting ready for and Melissa fit me in for brow tinting, eyebrow/nose/side-burn wax, and chemical peel. I am very pleased with the end result and absolutely love the professional atmosphere that LaRue provides. I'd highly recommend: - Brittnie for lashes (she also does forever bracelets) - Melissa for waxing/dermaplaning or help with skincare - I'm going to try their newly offered massage services from Tiffany (who also does dermaplaning which I was very pleased with as well)! Emily Langford is hands down the best aesthetician in the Southeast. My first appointment with her…read morewas about three years ago when she was offering a discount for a sugaring session. At the time, I was getting my brows threaded, however after my easy, painless sugaring appointment I figured I'd book an appointment for my brows as well. Since that day, I've been hooked. I see Emily about every 2-3 weeks to get my brows done. There's been a few occasions that I've been in a bind and I've had to see another aesthetician and their work doesn't measure up to what Emily can do. My brows are always even and have the perfect arch to them. She doesn't leave a single stray hair. Her brow waxing skills are a work of art to say the least. She will ensure that you leave Old City Medspa looking AMAZING! On top of her phenomenal aesthetician abilities, she's the sweetest, most down to earth human. She's easy to talk to during your appointment and she plays great music. She continuously checks on you to make sure you're comfortable, not in pain, ensures the wax isn't too hot, etc. Emily does so much more than just waxing brows. She's a sugaring queen to say the least! It would definitely be worth your time to book an appointment with her at Old City Medspa! Additionally, Old City Medspa has such an awesome atmosphere. They're located in one of the older buildings downtown. The spa has so much offer all their clients! Inside is so quiet and calming - a great place to book an appointment and just relax. OBSESSED with how my skin looks and feels after my first Diamond Glow treatment!!! I didn't realize…read morehow thirsty my skin was and now I can shine like the star that I am. The staff were all so kind and helpful. While I was waiting for my appointment, one of the women showed me these awesome products they carry that are not only makeup, but sunscreen as well. Essentially, I could go to the beach with a full face of makeup and not smell like traditional sunscreen or look greasy. I love that. The walls of this place are decorated with gorgeous art and in some of the rooms you can see the original brick walls of the building showing. The Diamond Glow treatment itself was not painful at all, but gave me the result of cleaned out pores. The suction takes out all the gook and replaces it with the serum of your skin professional's choosing (my serum was a hydrating one). The entire treatment was short enough to fall in my lunch hour, and was non abrasive enough for me to walk out and show the world my cleaned face. This is truly a luxury experience. Anything you want, coffee, tea, water, a more youthful complexion, can all be given to you here. I will definitely be back for more sessions.

I showed up for my appointment and the doors were locked. No one was anywhere around this spa. I waited for about 20 minutes until I drove off. I called and left a message saying I was there for my appointment. I got a call back a few days later. The woman had a thick southern country accent and apologized as she has scheduled me for the wrong day. I decided I would again try again. The customer service here is awful because I called for a week straight and got no answer. It's a day spa, shouldn't it be open during the day? Anyway I finally got around to making an appointment and went yesterday to get a facial. Apparently the woman who answers the phone is the owner and she is also the so called licensed esthetician who I received my facial from. This was the absolute worst facial I have ever had. Not only did this woman jab my face with what felt like a knife but she wouldn't shut her mouth as I was trying to relax. After my facial was over I got dressed and walked out. Every spa I have ever been to I have been offered water after the procedure. I was not offered anything. If I hadn't given her my gift certificate I think she probably still would have stood there when I walked out. The woman was completely ignorant and I will not be going back. To make things worse I left this spa and was on my way to pick my dog up from being groomed. I listened to my messages on my cell phone then looked at my phone and there was oil dripping off my head, neck, and ears. SICK!!! She over oiled me and now I looked like I had been in a pool of oil. A good facial will leave you feeling cleansed. I felt so dirty I had to go home and immediately jump in the shower!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.
