It is an old heritage listed church because of it's age and historical significance in the area. There is a school attached at the rear which no longer acts as a school, but is also part of the original (now) heritage site. It is very popular for weddings, but it does have a real life as an actual church in the area as well. David McCall is the priest and they have a Sunday service each week with a sung Eucharist, which is rather special and enjoyable if you enjoy that sort of thing.

In the July 2015 time period, masses were held at a variety of times -- including Sat. night vigil mass and an early "no music" mass at 7am (very well done). After all, Adelaide is the "City of Churches" and this one is 170 years old. It is quite large. The church is big enough, the church office is another thing entirely. It requires a Yelp of its own really.

Their advertisements and marketing seem to be very loud, over the top, extreme, devout and meaningful. They include songs, games, videos, concerts and other festivities into their service, which run daily in the morning and some nights. There are also services in the city and up north. For me, as a regular churchgoer, Paradise isn't what I'm after - I'm quite comfortable with a good, lively youth service at a 'regular' church, but Paradises 'performances' are one step further than I'm willing to go with my worship. That said, Paradise certainly reaches a lot of people each week - if you're looking for an in your face, over the top 'religious' experience, here's somewhere you can get it - personally I'll stay somewhere I'm one of the congregation, not one of the crowd. They do put on a great Christmas spectacular - lights, music, and a funfair of sorts - oh, yes, and a 'live' nativity scene - all topped off with a fireworks display at the end of the evening - worth a visit if nothing else.

Our family has frequented this temple since it was built back in 1994…read more Purely for nostalgic reasons and to support the Buddhist community I return once a year for the Shakyamuni Buddha's Birthday. This is one of the best days to come and stock up on tasty vegetarian treats, with money going back to the temple. The people cooking and serving do this out of their goodness of their hearts, and I, for one is more than happy to support this. Personally, I think it is a win-win situation; you pay a very reasonable price for homecooked dishes such as the various noodle soups on offer, baos with varying stuffings, faux sugarcane prawns and a variety of sweets, knowing it is going directly into the maintenance and upkeep of the temple which fosters a culture of inclusitivity and creates a sense of community. The temple welcomes people from all walks of life, and on the weekends you are welcome to stay for lunch after meditation (both as an observer or as a participant). I do recommend a visit for those interested in Buddhism or those that enjoy decent vegetarian food. They also have a quaint little library with fables in both English and Chinese. Every Sunday, the RuShi Children School allows children age 4-15 to develop their interests in Buddhism, rituals, Chinese language and culture for a small price of $50 per year. As mentioned, I come here for food as I'm not aligned with any religion, but appreciate what this temple does for the wider community, thus will continue to visit now and into the foreseeable future.
