You can bring your four-wheelers and ride the trails, and the campground is located right on the Peace River, where you can search for shark's teeth. There's a nice country store on site, and on Saturdays they host a dollar ice cream social, which we always enjoy. Sometimes they even bring in food trucks. The kids love visiting the animals--a donkey, a tortoise, and a goat--and there's also a playground for them to enjoy. The campground also features a really nice swimming pool and swimming area. Peace River Campground offers convenient amenities as well, including laundry facilities and clean bathrooms with showers. Overall, it has a laid-back, low-key atmosphere where you can truly relax while still having plenty of fun. We enjoyed our walks down to the boat ramp for sunsets where you can launch your boats, kayaks or canoes. There is also a small shaded dog park down by the boat launch area for our fur babies to enjoy. We met so many friendly people here who made us feel like forever friends from day one! We loved that if you do extended stays here people kept their sites looking beautiful with lovely plants, etc. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are very accommodating! We will be sure to visit again if we ever are in need of an extended stay and highly recommend this gem!

I'm not saying Siesta Key Beach is the best beach in the United States... but I'm also not not…read moresaying that. This beach is easily in my personal Top 5. The sand was CLEAN, WHITE, and ridiculously soft, while the water was so clear and warm it felt like somebody set the Gulf to "luxury bathtub" mode. I could've stayed out there all day with absolutely ZERO plans beyond: Beach chair Umbrella Get in the water Nap Repeat And the breeze?! 10/10. No notes. It was giving "why do I have responsibilities?" We rented 2 beach chairs and an umbrella for the entire day for $70 including tip, which I honestly thought was pretty reasonable considering we basically secured ourselves a beachfront living room for the day. I went on a Friday around 2 PM, so I'm sure conditions and crowds can vary, but my experience was giving PERFECTION. And yes, I ate. I grabbed a hot dog with fries and a virgin piña colada. Everything was tasty, and I asked them to get my hot dog as well-done as humanly possible. They heard me loud and clear. At this point, I was basically living my best retired-person life: chair, umbrella, water, breeze, snack, nap. Please don't call me back to reality. I'll DEFINITELY be back to Siesta Key much sooner than later because apparently I've found my new emotional support beach.

The RV sites are spacious, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. Unlike many campgrounds where you're practically sharing coffee with your neighbors, Myakka provides plenty of room and natural vegetation between sites. It felt private, peaceful, and uncrowded. If you enjoy the outdoors, you'll never run out of things to do here. There are miles of hiking and biking trails, abundant wildlife, and excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching. For those looking for a little adventure, the canoe rental outpost offers a chance to paddle the Myakka River and lake system while getting up close and personal with about 10 bazillion alligators. (The OG Floridian!) One attraction you absolutely shouldn't miss is the Trail and Observation Tower. The suspension bridge is a fun experience, and the views from the 72-foot tower are spectacular. Looking out across miles of untouched Florida wilderness really gives you an appreciation for how wild and beautiful this state still is. One word of caution: be mindful of the poison ivy. It's everywhere around campsites, trails, and wooded areas. As a native Floridian who should know better, I managed to find it the hard way and am still paying for that mistake. Learn from my suffering and keep an eye on where you're stepping, leaning, and reaching. Whether you're camping, hiking, biking, paddling, or just looking for a peaceful getaway, Myakka River State Park delivers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already "itching" to return. This time without the poison ivy. Pro Tip: Bring your camera, binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and a healthy respect for Mother Nature. You'll be glad you did!
