For a book whose spine is parting? Missing pages? C'mon. Don't even bother looking at most of what they call "Vintage" books. They ask a king's ransom for them. I found paperback after paperback that was priced at over $20 each... for a book barely 50 years old and a cover price of $1.50. Outlandish. I actually performed a reality check and went to Ebay to check on 7 or 8 of those titles. In each case the books sold for much less on Ebay than Helen is asking. They most definitely need to adjust their pricing schema. It's not like they're paying rent in downtown La Jolla for goodness sake. I was originally, upon walking in, going to say their large, diverse selection is a strength. Now I understand it's simply a function of them not selling their books at a good turnover rate at all... consequently, their stock piles up. Shame.

I cannot even remember the last time I saw a pimp outfit for a small dog--not to mention a small dog out & about on a pimp walk wearing the loud velvety or velour pimp apparel that all small dogs find highly desirable; the pimp looks give their lives so much more shape & meaning. It's practically animal cruelty that pimp outfits for small dogs cannot be bought at a local gas station. Fortunately for all small dogs, I waltzed right into the Amvets Carlsbad store, & found a perfectly good all in one pimp outfit sized particularly for a small dog on one of their clothing racks. The outfit was purple, faux fur, & included leopard print trim on the sleeves. The small dog on the front of the packaging looked incredibly confident & cocksure in his pimp-wear like any real small dog would. I picked up the package, speed walked to the cashier, & the cashier rang it up. The dog pimp outfit price: 5$. I paid. Then I sprinted to my car, drove off, & donated the pimp dog clothes to an animal shelter so some small pimp dog can get back into the pimping game in style. The pimp game is now one dog better due to my efforts, & the work of the good people who work at Amvets.

I thought that should ensure plenty of time to have it processed and shipped for Christmas. Then the company went dark for two weeks, no responses to my email, no answer to my phone calls. Finally Sunday I get this response, "Le Hook, We moved and in the process lost internet and phone service for 2 weeks. I'll cancel your order since we are not a real company. Bill KAREN'S BOOKS" Really? What business of any statue and character loses all contact with their customers for two weeks? A further inquiry got this answer: pardon his language please "We do a shit bucket of business which is why things got out of hand fast. But you probably can't get your little mind around that either." Resorting to personal attcks is a poor way to do business! I recommend to anyone that you never use this company and warn all your friends also!
