The reception venue would not allow us to drop off cheese/fruit trays the morning of our wedding because they did not have anywhere to store them until that evening. They service at the reception was professional and everything went smoothly. They served over 350 people at our wedding and everyone had plenty of food! I recommend AE to anyone getting married in the Kansas City area!

First off, I can't really trust someone who advertises tacos as "carne asada" and then, when serving them, calls them "beef." There's no authentic flavor in these bad boys. I tried to salvage the experience by ordering chips and salsa, but the chips were terribly stale and I had to ask for a refund on them. I hope that they are able to make right these recipes because right now, they're not going to get my business making food that has no flavor. I also didn't appreciate the hand on the shoulder and comment from the man who delivered our food. I'm sure he thought it was harmless, but as a woman, I don't need your comments, nor your hand on my shoulder when you're just bringing me my food.

Deb was energetic and excited to hear about the shower and what I had in mind for food. She offered a TON of choices (I wanted bite-sized finger food)...cold, hot & desserts. It all sounded so good, we had a hard time making choices. She was great with communication and the contract for services was really clear and laid out all of the pricing in detail so I never had a question as to how much I'd be paying. She also had everything I needed like tablecloths, glasses, silverware, napkins. I had a wonderful and extremely helpful on-site server, Julie, during the shower as well. The food was a tasty and delicious as it sounded. We had tea sandwiches, scones w/berry butter, brie & cranberry tarts, mini cupcakes, mini beef wellingtons (YUMM!), salmon canapes, gruyere puffs, and chocolate covered strawberries. I'm so glad I had Deb and her team to help me put this shower together. I will definitely be giving her a call for my next event!

I rate them as No. 1 in my book. They were my go to for everything and it was the smart and perfect chose. I live in Miami, FL., I had to plan my daughter's wedding from Miami in Kansas City. With the help of Marvin and Deborah Williams from Shining Star Catering, they made it all possible for me to do. The food was so flavorful, everyone was commenting on how great the food was (we had Italian). The staff was just as amazing and accommodating. The venue was a dream come true. Most of my communication was done via email, but Marvin and Deborah made the vision come true. He made himself available at all times, Marvin even stayed around the day of the wedding to guide me. That was a weight off my shoulders, because I did not have a wedding planner. That's what you call amazing service.

I stumbled upon this new business thanks to an Instagram ad and the pictures were stunning-- I was sold. I looked into their holiday menu to make our Thanksgiving a little less stressful and I was blown away with every aspect. Ordering online was a cinch, pick up was a breeze, and most importantly the food was incredible. I even called the day before Thanksgiving to double our original Turkey order and they were able to accommodate us and were so kind. We all thought the pricing was very fair ($220 for Turkey, 6 sides, a chocolate mousse cake, serving utensils for 5 people).

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they have no trouble showing their faces, it's just that I'm in St. Louis, and they are in Kansas City. And that right there is a great sign that they have their act together--I can count on them even though I have never met them, nor eaten their food (which my people have claimed was delicious). I use Above & Beyond to cater a small lunch meeting that our office conducts in KC every once in awhile. The lunches come on time, and at the proper temperature. The food elicits great feedback, and billing has never been a problem. Although I keep my usual orders simple, I do know from their site that they have a broad range of entrees available. Above & Beyond Catering is a solid resource for your catering needs, and you should have no problem finding what you need.

With less than two weeks before my event, Roxanne Strub contacted me and told me that she wasn't not going to honor our original contract and eventually bailed on my event completely. She and her associate Heather Faudel were both ruthless and rude about it. I was shocked at how I was treated. Roxanne knew she had the upper hand by attempting to change her terms at the last minute, then failing to cater my event, or return payment. Complaints have been filed, and a lawsuit is pending. The meal and experience was so memorable that we wanted to replicate it in our parent's home and asked Chef David to serve a 5-course meal for 8 adults. His communications in preparation for the event were clear and professional. He took our preferences into account, including my sister's need for gluten free options, and he provided exciting options, it was difficult to choose. The entire meal ended up being gluten free, much to my sister's delight. Chef David arrived at 2pm for a 6pm meal and we could tell right away that it was going to be a great experience. He brought positive energy into the house, and it was a lot of fun talking to him and seeing him prepare for the meal. I think our dad must have talked to him for an hour or more while he was preparing the food. The whole house smelled AMAZING! Our menu was Scallops Muniére, Gnocchi with sage brown butter and parmesan, Orange and Spinach Salad, Beef Pappardelle with wild mushrooms and burrata cheese, and the most amazing Chocolate Cream Pie I've ever had. Chef David served up what I would consider a Michelin-rated experience in my parent's home. It was truly an amazing experience and a beautiful memory for our family. Scotland was amazing, but having this experience right at home was something special. And, to top it off, Chef David cleaned everything up afterwards! We highly recommend hiring Chef David!!
