So, you'll hear Sokol and Bohemian National Hall being used interchangeably. I visited Sokol for ethnic events on multiple occasions. Most recently I participated in the Annual Czech Holiday Fair. AMBIANCE: Sokol Building is the white building directly next to the Bohemian National Hall. It includes few spaces including a gym and halls. The interior is grandeur, rooted in history and tradition. There are only a very few buildings in the city that feel so magnificent. There are plenty of steps to navigate the Sokol and the National Bohemian Hall. When both are open, you'll also find museum rooms and store with Czech and souvenirs. HOLIDAY FAIR: The holiday fair was very interesting especially due to my own Slavic roots. There were multiple rooms with cultural elements, food, and drinks. The rooms were not very filled but could house many guests. The navigation of everything that was available was quite confusing. I had no idea that there was a basement level with food until talking to one of the vendors. Guests could also freely checkout the museum and the store. While I'm not Czech, I really appreciate the abundance of folk elements at the fair. There were plenty of vendors selling straw dolls, Czech souvenirs, plates, vintage ornaments, books, crotchet goodies, cookbooks, postcards, and more. The prices were fairly reasonable and there a lot of unique pieces. I am trying to declutter, and so instead I became very interested in food options. There were plenty of hearty meals including Duck Quarter Dinner ($16) and Chicken Paprikash Dinner ($16). I purchased Chicken Paprikash Dinner (comes with Czech dumplings), frozen Czech bread dumplings (Houskové knedlíky), and Kuba (grain dish with barley). I was most exited about trying Czech dumplings. They do not resemble dumplings at all. They are more like breads that soak in all the tasty juices from the accompanying dish. Love the concept! Plenty of Czech bottle beers were available at really reasonable prices - $4-5. NEIGHBORHOOD: Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood, one thriving Slavic area, is currently a pretty bad neighborhood in the city. I always feel uneasy visiting this area. Two parkings lots affixed to Sokol have guards which puts you at ease. I really enjoyed my experience at a holiday event at Sokol. There was plenty to eat and sightsee. I look forward to attending Mikuláša (Saint Nick's Dance) soon! You should find events to attend at Sokol too, look at their Facebook for the latest event offerings.

I showed up about 20 minutes before showtime and was able to easily find a parking space in their lot. Compared to a place like Playhouse Square, this place is a lot tinier, which makes the whole experience feel a lot more intimate. During intermission, my friends and I took a look at the art on display and purchased some drinks and snacks. They didn't have a huge selection, but enough to pick from. I even got my own pair of pointe shoes. I loved to dance. I did lyrical, ballet, tap, and jazz. But, when I did get older I had some bad experiences with getting yelled at. Yea, I wasn't Misty Copeland, but I also wasn't a someone with no strength and flexibility. I was told these were corrections and I wasn't to cry over them because I was getting help. I had some days where I'd be corrected with simple words, and not be humiliated in front of the class. One time my teacher said she didn't give a shit about the dance she was choreographing and said she was looking at me. Mind you I was on a week long vacation in Washington DC. I cried in the dressing room while my friends comforted me. My little sister also went to this dance studio and experienced just about everything I had. The good and the bad. I don't want to make this too long, so I'll just say a few more things. I quit in 2021 and my sister quit in 2022. I feel so much more anxiety free now and so does my sister. every time I had to go I just got a heap of anxiety in my stomach. Needless to say, the studio is really nice. if you want to sign up, I'm sure you won't regret and you'll make a lot of good friends. I just wanted to share my part.

My wife and I had always seen Starz Ballroom from I-90, so when we were looking to take some dance…read morelessons in preparation for our upcoming wedding, we decided to give them a call. Lizabeth, the manager, got back to us with a quote within a few days via email and got us on the schedule quickly. Kristen was our instructor and she was awesome! She was super nice and personable and definitely made it easy for us as beginners with no rhythm. Lol We pretty much told her that neither of us dance and we wanted to learn some basics so we don't look like complete idiots on our wedding day! We started our first lesson with hand and arm positions and the basic box steps (5, 6, 7, 8...*quick, quick, slow*) and we built upon that with side steps, turning, "the cuddle" move and some other moves in the following 3 sessions. She watched each of us closely and told us what we were doing wrong or right and took turns with each of us til we got the feel for it. Each session was roughly 45 minutes long and she wrote down notes of what we covered after each session so that we all knew where we left off during the next visit. During our last session, Kristen had us try all of the moves we learned to go along with the beat of the music and it was tough! We sure had a lot of fun though! Thank you, Kristen! On our wedding day, we dance pretty well and noone fell, so that's a win in my book! The audience chose songs and the dancers did improv to them. The founder is a physical therapist, and stresses movement and injury prevention, part of today's wellness awareness. The company has adult classes. It's involved in community outreach that includes creativity with dance. Seems like a group to get involved in.

Our girls (ages 6 and 4) just finished their first season with NRDA. I can't express how pleased I…read moream that we chose NRDA. The teachers and student helpers were amazing, so great with the kids and so polite and professional. The class sizes were small so everyone got plenty of teacher attention and the tuition is affordable even for larger families. Our girls learned a lot and loved going to dance class and showing off the things they learned when they got home. The past year has been insane but I am very impressed with how Miss Amy and her staff navigated all the roadblocks and kept everyone safe, healthy, and dancing! We really enjoyed to recital especially, the music was tasteful, the venue was beautiful, the dances and costumes were age appropriate, and the whole thing was very well organized. We have been to other dance recitals where the choice of music and dances were not at all age appropriate, which makes us appreciate NRDA that much more. We will definitely be enrolling our girls with NRDA in the future and would HIGHLY RECCOMMEND them to anyone looking for a great dance class for their kids. Thank you so much NRDA!
