I have been eating at En Lai for over 15 years and will continue. Excellent buffet and hot sour soup.

Food is meh. The buffet is always scarce. Most of the chicken is always just breading, no chicken. Their fried rice is not great. Went there and asked for the buffet at 3:28 which should have been $11 but counted it after 3:30 even after showing him it was 3:28. Told me he wouldn't give me the lunch deal so I paid $15. So when does the lunch special really end?? Stick to what your menu says! Other than that all, the place is clean. Won't be going back. read more

We had a delicious dinner at En Lai. Great service. They had both the buffet (many items including several vegetarian choices ) and a la carte. We ended up going back the next day and ordering a la carte including delicious tofu dishes ! Food was fresh, wok-tossed , hot, perfectly spiced to order and delicious. At first glance of the exterior you know it's going to either suck or be amazing. Glad to report it was absolutely the best Chinese food I've had in years. I always compare all Chinese buffets or take out places to NYC and this is the first restaurant in 20 years that I can say compares! Buffet was refreshed at least 4 times while we were seated. Everything was made in small batches and nothing sat for long. Absolutely loved every single thing I tried as did everyone else at the table. Can't recommend this place enough! I hope you like bugs, DO NOT EAT here. Others have warned of the bugs in the dining area. I recently found a bug in my food. It appeared to be what looked like a sweat bee. The lunch buffet was affordable and even came with refillable drinks. The dining area was clean, quiet, and there was a lot of seating available. There were many vegetarian options including vegetable egg rolls, lo mein, and fried rice. The food was flavorful and enjoyable. read more

I do have a weakness for Chinese buffets, and En Lai isn't the biggest or best, but the food is good. It's clean, with a buffet that is on the smaller side - two islands for entrees and fried foods, one island for fruit and desserts with ice cream and soup. The food is hot, fresh and tasty, and servers keep a close eye on it, but as at most Chinese buffet/restaurants the dishes are always better off the menu. read more

Don't waste your money here. When ordering online they charge .75, then they charge a $5 delivery fee, plus a tip, all to get shrimp that isn't clean and chicken sticks that are burnt.The only thing good was the egg roll. Ordered from here as it was the only restaurant that delivered to the hotel we were staying at. The lo mein was very good, the steak fried rice was ok. The Szechuan chicken I would definitely not recommend - I didn't even touch it. I also did not appreciate that the only way to tip on delivery is to answer the delivery person when he asks you how much you'd like to tip. That felt unnecessarily awkward and I'm sure there's got to be an easier way to do it. read more

Favorite place to eat in slippery rock. They have never messed my order up, and always have it ready quickly. My only complaint is when the broccoli isn't fully cooked, so it's really crunchy..but some days they are very busy so we understand. The workers are always polite and have your stuff ready the second you walk in the door, and it takes a minute total (if that) to pay and leave. Man, it is what it is... You pay $8 for a buffet and you get the quality of an $8 buffet. I used to smash on en lai when I was in college and I was never mad about it. The carry out buffet is legit cause you don't even have to close the lid on your container. You can get out of there with a 7 LB box easily. It's a stoners dream. They had a white sauce walnut chicken that was awesome one time and very average from then on, but did I mention it's an $8 buffet? The only downside is there has been a can of roach spray sitting on the ledge by the bathroom for about 7 years now, but apparently it's serving it's purpose cause I never saw a bug in the joint, which is impressive for an $8 buffet. This place used to be great take out. Lately however, spicy dishes are anything but, formerly wonderful egg rolls are now flavorless and greasy. We used to get takeout all the time with few problems. My 101st Yelp Review goes out to the En Lai in Slippery Rock. Although the price point is there, I can only award two stars based on food quality. Please note that this is a composite review based on multiple dine-ins and multiple take-outs. ATMOSPHERE: The whole place reeks cheap. Not pleasing, cheap. Not cute, cheap. You walk up two stairs and immediately hit the register. You can see into the kitchen, which is very dimly lit. Behind the register you see refrigerators of miscellaneous things, and in front of the cashier you see bottles and cans of various sodas. The dining room also feels cheap with mismatched decor, teetering, tottering tables, and worn carpet. DINE-IN: Your only choice here is buffet. It's affordable; Saturday lunch and fountain drinks for two came to $15.37. I'm not sure if they upcharge for the weekend or for dinner. I like that you're in control of your fountain drink; no need to wait for a waiter to fill your cup, and you can make sure you're getting the right beverage. There are only two hot counters, so the variety is definitely limited. With that being said, nothing here is ever hot enough. The fruit is also kind of warm. The buffet has ice cream, six or seven varieties, which is nice. They also usually have some seasonal fruit. Hot items range from fried rice to chicken; green beans and dumplings; soup and sugar buns. Again, too bad it's never hot enough. TAKE-OUT: It's typical Chinese fare; nothing special. I've found that En Lai is bland when you do take-out. The peanut chicken is decent though. If you live in the Slippery Rock apartments, your food will be cold by the time you get it if you order delivery. My friend also said there is a $10 delivery charge. Prices are reasonable in my opinion. VERDICT: If you're craving Chinese food and you're in the Slippery Rock area, give it a whirl. This place is like a first girlfriend- some days you crave it, some days you eat it up, some days it disgusts you, some days it doesn't exist, and some days you swear it off. read more

Disappointed at best. Buffet had several choices of chicken but all had same brown tasteless sauce. Even found a bone in sweet and sour chicken. Chicken wings has some sort of cheap coating on them. I've been here three times for the buffet. It's a crazy cheap lunch buffet - like $6 for all you can eat. They have decent options - some of it a bit scary looking. This is probably one of the best Chinese food dives around. No frills kinda place however, you watch your food being prepared in their woks right in front of you, and this is some of the most delicious, tasty food in the area. I've been in fancier high end Chinese restaurants and the food wasn't nearly as delicious as EN Lai's. This truly is awesome fare. Their BBQ spareribs are to die for! Thick gooey hoisin sauce on meaty spicy ribs, you just can't get enough of the sticky sauce! The crab Rangoons are the best around as they are loaded with that delicious unctious cream cheese that after one bite and it's oozing out you enjoy it no less than the first. The shrimp they use are very large, generous portions of everything, and you will not be disappointed. read more

Simple Chinese Buffet. This place was a great eatery for students because it was cheap and you can load up as much food as you can fit in a take-out box for one low price...a very nice change from most chinese pay per weight deals. This was where I recovered from many long nights and where I stocked up on food for finals week. Nothing is spectacular, but almost everything is pretty good.
