Smolin Lupin...Very disappointing and expensive experience…read more For many years my business used Smolin for accounting purposes and had no issues. Following a merger I had no choice but to use a different accounting firm, but I continued to use Smolin for our personal tax preparation. I had no problems for a number of years until somewhat surreptitiously, my senior accountant handed me off to a junior accountant. The young man was nice enough, but as it turned out, lacking in experience and competence. He made several cardinal errors, including forgetting to account for our dependent child as a deduction, and even more importantly, despite the fact that I am very careful about avoiding any tax liability at the end of the year by carefully paying quarterly estimates, he miscalculated estimates to the extent that I had to pay a major federal penalty with substantial interest as well. Smolin is not inexpensive, and we don't mind paying for quality, competent accounting but this was anything but. We decided that it was time to seek accounting consultation elsewhere and haven't looked back.
