Nothing beats a little retail therapy! I don't come here as often as I used to, but somehow, every visit still feels special. This afternoon, I stopped by a few premium brand stores, and every shopping experience was wonderful. On top of that, I also ended up getting quite a few steps in. By the time I got back to my car, I realized how much better I felt. Sometimes, a little shopping, a lot of walking, and a familiar place are all you need to reset.

For example, there is an entire storefront devoted to claw machines. There is another store called "mystery bins" that has a random assortment of items that kind of look like they fell off a truck. There is a rope obstacle course for kids on the upper floors of the mall. Cool concept, but a little off putting that things could fall from above on to shoppers on the lower levels. Overall, it's a decent mall, but it has lost some of its luster over the years.

After the JCpenny and Lord & Taylor closed down, this place has only gone downhill. Second, its dirty as hell. Saw dead cockroaches in the food court and weird stains all around. This place doesn't get the care it needs anymore. Third, the mall is extremely close to dying. Don't get me wrong; this mall is very popular, but every time I visit it has less and less people visiting. I find this extremely sad to see, especially since I used to love going here with my dad, this mall has slowly been rotting due to neglect by the owners and is now destined to be demolished or completely renovated. I hope it can one day come back, but now I've lost hope for it at all.

I asked a girl around my age if she happened to have a pad, and instead of handling the situation respectfully, a male employee came over and told us that I couldn't bother other customers. He made me feel judged and embarrassed and basically treated me like I was being kicked out. I understand that there are store policies, but the way he handled the situation was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I was just trying to get a basic necessity and needed help. There are much better ways to communicate with customers without making them feel uncomfortable or judged. Horrible customer service.

I'm not sure how many times I've tried the pick up service through the years, but it's been years…read moresince my order was correct and/or wasn't cancelled. Either way, the products I wanted were on the shelves most of the time. Staff can be moody but a lot less so than they were years ago. I've had a few pretend not to speak English until they realized I'll just ask for help in Spanish, which gives both of us a good laugh before they help, usually in English. I won't hold that against them because they probably feel their hands are too full. It's not as if they are sitting on their butts or twiddling their thumbs, but it is something that's happened more than once with different staff in different departments. I did have an issue with something ringing up incorrectly at self-checkout a while back. The lady manning self-checkout said she needed a manager to give her permission to change the price. I watched her go ask the manager for assistance. I watched the manager, who was chatting with someone organizing bins in another checkout lane, make no attempt to come over and assist for over 20 minutes. I went into the checkout lane next to the manager and heard her just talking about home and gossip without a care in the world, but she turned professional when I came out of hiding and asked when she planned to assist me. She pretended that she didn't know I had been waiting until I pointed out that I had not only watched her be asked, I had been listening to the last few minutes for her conversation while I waited. The lady manning self-checkout apologized after the manager finally came over, and I told her she did her part, and it wasn't her fault. She said she was nervous I was going to take it out on her because that's what customers usually do when this happens, which leads to suspect this is a game that manager regularly plays while leaving their staff to take the brunt of the customers' rage. It's no wonder the staff have a bad reputation for customer service. One of my last visits was during opening. None of the self-checkout registers had any bags, which isn't abnormal. I went to one of the other registers and grabbed one bag from there. I probably needed at least four for the amount of things I had, but there were so few and relatively a lot of customers for an early morning, so I left the rest for the others. A lady who was staring at me came to the woman self-checkout and said hide the bags because "they" take them all while she looked at me. I don't know if that woman was a supervisor, but I know she was out-of-pocket. I took one bag. I really should've turned around and took three more in spite. I feel I was profiled a few times at this store, whether due to race or age, I'm unsure. I reported it once and never saw that employee again, but I never received an acknowledgment much less an apology for it. This isn't my favorite Walmart location for a host of reasons, but I think Walmarts in general might be cutting back on inventory in their brick and mortar stores. This might be in an effort to push customers to pick up and delivery services, but this particular store is horrible for pick ups for years.

Once in a while, we wander over to Middletown to experience Playtog's Flea Market. Kinda like how cats and bears are similar. If you like dollar store toys that will probably maim you, you have your pick. Need to furnish your house, life and wardrobe in things with wolves on them? Playtog's is your destination for all of your wolf needs. Need a thousand pairs of tube socks and want to feel like you need a vaccine for some disease that hasn't been discovered yet? Find that disease, and those socks, at Playtog's. 95% of the flea market is garbage. The other 5% is grossly overpriced. Don't put out a few bins of records and say that they're "Oh, like, $3 to $10 each." That's a big effing price range. You gotta label that shiz. Or sort them into bins based on their price. Put some effort in, you moron. It's not a great place to go, unless you have nothing else to do and feel like living dangerously. Middletown isn't exactly known for its genteel population, unless 'genteel' means 'likely to shank you for that nickel in your pocket'. I just looked it up. It doesn't mean that thing.

Great "strip" mall. Right off the Parkway. Plenty of parking. Some of our favorite stores, all…read morein a mall that's not too small and not too big. My wife and I both love coming here. She loves Bloomies, Saks, Home Goods, etc. And we both love Trader Joe's, Shake Shack, France and Sons, etc. And then there Banana Republic, the Gap, various eateries, and more. And it's all situated basically in a U shape, with the parking lot in the middle, surrounded by 3 sides of stores. It's just large enough to have all the big names, but small enough that you don't get lost. From the middle of the parking lot, you can literally see every store. That way you don't have to wonder around aimlessly like in some larger malls. About Trader Joe's: there's isn't a convenient one near us in Queens. So, we always drive a little farther out here in Long Island. It's so much more convenient and less crowded here than in Queens. Asides from that, the location is also close to a couple of our other favorite places, such as Roosevelt Field Mall and Total Wine.
