We weren't going to do a review, but decided to share our experience. You're reading this because A) you're looking for a flooring company, or B) you're completely pissed about how things went with this company and are looking to see If you're the only one who shares that sentiment. We got 3 quotes for our flooring job, the first two came in at around $6500, and we were very specific about what we wanted... 1/2" carpet pad, the best carpet, and engineered hardwood in one of the guest rooms. Empire's sales guy dropped by for the third company's quote and after a long presentation about 50% off and special deals due to the Covid situation, the list price was over $12,000 BUT, drum roll please, with the 50% off, they could do the job for around $6,500! My wife and I shared a giggle and a foot kick under the table. We couldn't help but like this guy, and the material was in stock, unlike the other two companies, so we decided to go with it. We made the appointment, carpet in a few days, wood flooring the following week. The morning of the appointment, we got a call that the installer called in sick... reschedule. We both stayed home and had cleared all the rooms, prepared for the carpet, a bit of an inconvenience. OK, a few days later, they show up. The installers were nice and did a good job. My only complaint was that one side of the hallway carpet came up from the floor due to there not being more than a couple tacks left on the old tack strip they reused. I called and texted, and then e-mailed the sales guy, got no response. I called the 800 number, left a message, got a call back a couple days later from some guy with an attitude who told me it's common practice to reuse tack strips. I replied yes, I know, but not when the strip is 40 years old and most of the tacks are missing or unusable. He sighed, and said they'd come look at it at some point, but I said don't waste your energy and then I went ahead and fixed it. A few days later, the guys who were going to install the wood floor showed up. I had removed the baseboards, because sales guy told me we could put 1/4 round over where the flooring met the baseboard... not the look we wanted. They walked in and plopped down a pile of some thin floppy rubber looking material with a picture of wood on it. This portion of the job was going to be around $1500, so at that point, looking at what probably cost them a couple hundred dollars in material at most, we politely asked them to leave. We bought some hardwood and did the job ourselves, underlayment included, for about $1,000 less. So, that's a long story only to share our experience with this company. You have to decide for yourself, maybe you'll have better luck. I have to say that the carpet is great, now that I've tacked it down completely. The fact that they tried to sell us that crap flooring for $1500 just really didn't sit well, so we wanted to share. Empire, please don't reply with that cut and paste "sorry to hear that, please call us", or "we can't find your account"... we're done, and all is good now. We'll put this behind us. read more

Empire Today - Carpet not tacked down, entire hallway - Flooring Near Me

OMG! I wish I had read these reviews before using Empire today to replace living room and hallway carpet. The salesman gave us a great deal on premium carpet and put us on the schedule for Wednesday. One of the crew showed up Wednesday, measured the floor and said they didn't have enough carpet for the job. I had to call customer service 3 times to get them to come back Friday morning. The crew of 3 showed up Friday morning. My husband had moved most of the furniture except for 2 couches. They wanted the couches moved out of the way but only one guy was there at that time, the other 2 people kept leaving. So my husband had to help him move the couches AND help him bring in the roll of heavy carpet. Then they took an hour for lunch but only 2 people came back to keep working very slowly on installing the carpet. Finally the girl admitted they didn't have enough carpet to do the hallway so the guy had to drive to the other side of town to get more carpet. This was at 5pm. He comes back and they finally finished at 8:45pm. There is a visible unblended seam and there was damage on a couple floor boards. Don't use this company! Absolute nightmare Update: they did return to fix the unblended seam but had to run to Home Depot to get the tool to do the job. Carpet looks great now and was a good value for the price. But I would have gladly paid a bit more for a better installation. read more

Uncaring company. Pay the smallest possible deposit up front if you use them at all. We ordered and paid for a stair carpet runner and the installation of that runner on our new home's staircase on April 30th. It is now June 30th, and, after two months, I am cancelling my order after the fourth missed install date. The reason given is that the carpet binder (a person, not a machine) has gotten backed up due to personal problems. I would like to think that an enterprise as old and as large as Empire Today would have multiple resources for this type of work. That said, I am processing a full refund as I type this review. Unless you are a commercial customer, it can be argued that you will not be that important to this company. No apologies were ever given for the constant rescheduling. They just issued my refund order and told me to have myself a very good day. I have missed four work days for this, and I'm sure glad I hadn't paid for a house full of flooring. read more

Above and beyond customer service! We purchased new carpet in January 2023. It has held up really well in both color and quality. However, bringing two 7 week foster puppies into our home meant a corner that is adjacent to tile got chewed and pulled up. It was only about a 2" x 2" corner. Unfortunately we were not offered any scrap carpet after installation. My husband contacted them to see if our warranty covered it (it didn't), but we asked them if we could purchase a small piece (even a sample), and pay for shipping. The rep took down the info, and called a few days later saying she had found the matching carpet. She asked if we could drive to South Austin during business hours, and we told her we could two Fridays from then. Shockingly she offered to drive it to our home in Round Rock that evening! At 7:30 that Friday night, she showed up at our door with the carpet! EXCELLENT customer service! read more

We paid cash for an install that we were promised was going to be soft and plush. Yet it ended up being not good quality padding and feels like concrete under our feet. I immediately texted our sales rep about how unhappy I was and never heard a word back from him. I then contacted customer service to let them know after a few days and was told I would be contacted and never was. We also put in a claim a few days after install knowing it was going to be an expense out of pocket but needed fixed and they again chose not to call us. I had to follow up, was told they received the claim didn't have a response or reason why they didn't contact us, apologized. I also let them know about being unhappy with the carpet and still couldn't explain why I wasn't contacted by them. I filled out the review they sent again expressing my concerns and not liking the quality of the carpet or padding and again requesting them to contact me with zero response. Completely unacceptable. Would never use them again, Home Depot did a better job and had better quality padding, carpet and pricing. read more

Not good. We had Empire Flooring put in 9 years ago and the carpet needs to be replaced badly while the vinyl laminate is still mostly okay? We thought we would try again thinking they had good prices back in 2015 and maybe replacing just the carpet they had installed with vinyl and doing the bathrooms would help. We have to update our bathrooms and wanted the floors to be okay. Abbie, showed up to give us a new quote. We had no idea what the cost would be but explicitly told her we only wanted the upstairs done to replace mostly carpet with flooring and the bathrooms as well as a landing, stairs and laundry room. She was very pushy and didn't seem to care that we wanted to keep costs low. We had several ideas we were looking at to save money and she just kept telling us that our "ideas" would not look good (like keeping carpet in the closets. Or going with cheaper flooring (which she said is more used for prefab homes). The low priced options were limited. We didn't even ask her to bring in high end stuff because we knew this was a secondary project for our home. We kept asking specifically about costs and she would just say "It's not that much more" I said "what does that mean? She answered "Maybe a thousand more dollars". I looked her dead in the eyes and said "That is a lot of money." I repeated it. She just stared at me....but I was shocked that she would assume our budget. She then was asking "Well is this your forever home or are you going to sell it" This question is a sales tactic and you can't win. If I said it's our forever home she would tell me I need to go high end and get good floors that will last. If I said we wanted to sell, she would say we need to go high end because the other floors will not sell the house. It was a lose lose situation. I told her we will sell eventually but since their floors only seem to last about a decade I'm sure I'll have to buy new floors again eventually. After haggling her about different options and Trying desperately to get the quote, she pulled some numbers out of her ass and would not give me information on different scenarios. She was like "You can get a quote with the closets done or without, which do you want" I asked, can you run all the options? I also inquired about baseboards as last time we were offered different options. She was really acting annoyed by this and I got the impression they are no longer included. This was another time she wasn't listening and also wasn't informing us of options. She didn't want to spend the time. She had an attitude like we should take her word for it. But if she thinks $1000 isn't a lot of money then I can't believe in her. She kept saying she's here for us, she's looking for our best interest. She was so big on telling us "I can tell you this is not going to be a big difference". Then the cost was well over $12,000 and that wasn't including stairs for only the upstairs of a 1930 sq foot house. Then it was another $3000 for the stairs. I was shocked. Ofcourse she said the cost had gone up in 10 years. Which we know but not that much! She then asked if we need vinyl or laminate flooring or if we can do carpet? We said absolutely NOT. The crappy carpet is from Empire and it's lumped and wrinkled and has pet stains. We aren't going to do something we don't want so we can fit Empires pricing! How dare she even ask! The only reason they say these prices is because someone is willing to pay them. I'm not that person. She kept acknowledging that our carpet is bad but alas "Empire flooring has improved in 10 years" okay. Sure. Then she asked what our budget is. I told her we needed a quote to decide our budget since we had no clue about the price. I also told her that was way beyond what we had in mind. She said "Well since you're not ready to get floors in the next couple weeks, I can't get you the best prices." She said if we wanted to do the floors now, maybe she could get it to $9000 and $2500 for the stairs. She never provided anything in writing and instead had me write these numbers myself on my own paper. She never provided any information about the cost of the flooring per foot. She should have an idea of what installation costs and flooring in a house our size but she seemed totally clueless and kept saying "Well I need to run numbers and talk to my boss" Run what numbers Abbie? I'm not paying some price you pulled out of thin air. I need to know exactly what I'm being charged. Later she told us to give her a 5 star review... and to expect an email from her. We never got a review request, we never got a written quote. We never heard from her again. Horrendous experience. She said to contact her when we are ready. Ready for what??? She gave us nothing but a bad feeling. Hard sale, no heart. What happened to you Empire? We've used you in the past for cheap flooring and now you're trying to get high end prices knowing darn well your product and installation is not up to par. Shame on you! read more

I had an employee from Empire Today come out to give me a quote on replacing the carpet in two of our bedrooms. He started off by saying that it could cost $1,500 to $3,000 per room. I told him that was way too much and I wasn't interested at that pricing. He said he could do $750 per room but with manager approval only if we agreed to do it immediately. I must be the odd man out (we all are at some point) in my experience with Empire. I'll be fair and leave an updated review in the near future if we eventually notice any defects with our flooring, but our consultation and installation process was professional and seamless. Our sales rep who came to the house for our consultation was super down to earth and pleasant to deal with, and the installers did a fantastic job laying down our luxury vinyl planks. All in, we paid $10,500 for just about 700 sq. ft of LVP (all in meaning materials, labor, removal of old carpet and floors, leveling the ground and any other associated tasks). read more

I called Empire Today to see if they carried or could order a specific tile. The person I spoke with dodged my initial inquiry regarding the specific tile I needed for my project and immediately went right into trying to schedule an in-home visit. They refused to answer whether they had a particular tile in stock or could be ordered. Why on earth would I schedule an in-house visit (for a quote) when they can't even tell me if the tile I need is even available??? read more

This is one of those company's that always wants you to pay upfront and then do not care how the job get's done. I basically paid $3500.00 to have 3 bedrooms and a master closet carpeted and they did $1300.00 worth of damage to my bathroom tile floors due to shoving heavy furniture on both the master and the guest bathrooms. I reported the damage to them and they offered me $250.00 for the damage which is not even close to covering the damage as they do not carry that tile any longer so I would have to replace the entire flooring in both bathrooms. The sales consultant gave me the BS canned response during his visit about being in business for 50 years and being a member of the BBB, but that does to mean they will stand behind their workmanship. Here again, I should have known better and not paid them upfront as once you do that, they have no motivation to make things right. Do not use Empire today! My floors were installed in April, Vinyl laminate. They are popping up all over the place. I had filed an insurance claim with my homeowner's that was denied clearly stating the floors were improperly installed and no water damage. Insurance also had two plumbing companies out to inspect the home and found no leaks. Empire states exactly the opposite. They blame water damage as well as my daughter's wheelchair for the planks popping up. If a wheelchair can cause damage then why wasn't this told to me before my purchase. This is a clear cut case of a faulty product, a faulty installation, and a refusal to honor a warranty. Never use them unless you can afford to redo your floors within a year! read more

While the representative, Ryan, was great to deal with and installation went well, their warranty is not as they present it. Pet damage? Only if the pet pees or poops. That was not what we were told. Vinyl plank flooring started buckling before the 1 year warranty, but I was pregnant and high risk, so I couldn't have anyone over, so I now would have to pay to fix it. It's not worth it. it looks nice at first but extremely difficult to keep clean. We followed the rules, and the floor just didn't keep up. Also, I had carpet installed, and that's worse than the vinyl plank. Don't go with Empire, go with professionals. read more

Damaged the new baseboards they installed. Left a huge mess in the front yard. Wood chips from baseboard cutting, tile cuts left all over, red chaulkline left on my dress and stained my dresser. Still have 2 tiles not set that you can pull up, install wasn't the same time frame or quality the salesman sold me on. Install manager Raymond was unwilling to financially and physically rectify the situation tk make it right with a satisfactory installation. My house was supposed to be partially livable. We went to a hotel. Sheet rock in garage damaged from workers overnight tool storage. Overall just poor quality work, poor workmanship, poor installation manager. After listening to their sales pitch about how they have wonderful reviews and a great BBB rating. we bought in. we run a B&B and need quick installation because we have guests. we signed on a Monday. despite promising next day installation they started on Thursday. and that was just the carpet. they were to begin floor on the following Monday. . they showed up on Monday at 1pm and kept us up til 9 pm at which time they ran out of flooring. we expected them ti come back the next day but now they will be back in Thursday. our guests arrive on Friday. run fast from this company. they have deceptive trade practices and really don't care about their reviews. they can't get any lower than their current 1 star don't waste your money read more

I want to preface this with saying the carpet so far is great and the installers were great, BUT! the sales person who came out to tell us about their carpet and sold us on the product failed to inform us that having carpet laid on tile mean the carpet would be thicker. Listen to the poor reviews on this company. They gave us an estimate for our entire house and everything went well. We were told that we were getting the top carpet with a full warranty. About 5 months after installation, we noticed what seemed to be a seam in the middle of our living room. It was very obvious and we called to take advantage of the warranty to get it corrected. They sent out a rep to examine it and he explained that it wasn't a seam but a manufactures defect that occasionally occurs during a run of carpet. He said that he would submit our claim to the manufacturer but it would take awhile to get an answer. I received a call today and was told that my claim was denied, however, they would replace our carpet for a small fee of $900.00. She said that because I had two dogs in the house, that they couldnt warranty it. She continued to say that they always ask about dogs and kids when filing a warranty claim. So my understanding is that they have this great warranty that is voided if you have dogs or kids. I asked if the fact that my husbands toenails were long was also a reason to void the warranty. She did not answer. So here we are with carpet that is not a year old that we will be replacing so as not to have a line through the middle of our living room. Beware of this company. They will say anything and what you end up with is apartment grade carpet with absolutely NO warranty. And a customer service team that is non existent. read more

This place gets hammered on Google and Yelp reviews, but gets good reviews on Angie's List and Home Advisor. I went with them knowing about these negative reviews. Glad I did. They did an OUTSTANDING job. My floors looks incredible. The sales rep was very professional and friendly, and patient (I'm a tough customer). The installers just the same. Very respectful of my home, courteous, and professional. I waited a few weeks before posting a review and the floors are perfect. The ONLY thing I should remind future customers of - make sure they cover your counter tops and appliances. They forgot to cover a counter top and it was dusty from ripping up the old floor. I don't ding them for this, because that is just as much my own responsibility. It's construction folks - things get messy. This is definitely a 5/5 company. The installer came and removed a closet door. He left it laying on the floor when he left. When I called customer service I was told that the door was damaged and that they did not want to hang it because it might further damage the door. I am calling BS! The door was not and is not damaged.....it is just laying on the floor because the installer, who came alone with no helpers, was in a hurry. He got here before 8am even though the company was told that I work overnight and needed until 9am to get off work. I will never use Empire again. I have been obtaining quotes for a vinyl flooring project I hope to complete before the end of summer. The Empire Today consultant came today. I gave her a low ball estimate of what I would pay to see her reaction. She told me no way could Empire do it for that amount and quoted me a price that was comparable to 50 Floor, the other large company, for 500 sq ft. She also asked some rather personal questions about my marital status and dating life which I considered rather insulting given the fact that I am probably her mother's age. She put her manager on the phone when I declined to commit to a sale today. I felt like I was in a new car dealership. She told me the price was nonnegotiable, but her supervisor immediately began to negotiate, stating I had the evening to think about it. Horrible overall experience. Project start was delayed 3 different times for a total of 3 weeks. The company complied with our request for compensation in the form of a discount, but when I got the bill, the discount was not reflected. Now I am trying to contact my service representative. JUST TO BE CLEAR: the actual individuals that I communicated with (sales rep, service rep and work crew) were all very pleasant and professional people, but the logistics and scheduling was a nightmare. This is the worst excuse for a company I have ever done business with. The crew they were completely disrespectful of our property. Our floors were installing improperly. The carpet we had installed did look great, until the vinyl crew messed it up.. The vinyl crew ripped off our baseboards even thought it was supposed to be remove and replace. Half of our baseboards are broken, upside down, or backwards. The others are just missing. We asked if we needed to cover or move our NEW appliances and the guys in the crew told us no, that they would. Not only did they fail to do so, but now our new appliances are covered in scratches and dents. It is a NIGHTMARE. My favorite part, is that no one at this company seems to care. You can call the 1-800 number and talk to a friendly sales rep. But you might as well talk to a person on the street about it because they are just as connect to the company as the CS reps. read more

I can't say that we didn't have any issues, but I will say that when we did they were fixed. After a broken pipe and subsequent flood, my whole house was down to studs and I had lots of contractors in/out. From Ryan in Sales to the fabulous job that Miguel did on my floor, they have been responsive and did a beautiful job. We asked questions about the 50 % off etc, and this rep Ryan provided answers like " oh the 50 % off " yeah that's just marketing". High pressure sales. Way overpriced then came down by $2k when we showed him other quotes. Stated he could not provide us a quote because of the other " big guys " in the industry wanting that info ????Still we like the product and we put down a large deposit then decided to use our 3 day contract cancellation window. Called to let Ryan know and then the true Ryan emerged. Arrogant, mentioning all kinds of possible deductions from the deposit even thought the cancellation clause clearly states " without penalty within 3 business days ". Stated we may loose half our deposit. Utter rubbish. Question is with so many reviews mentioning this guy by name, why does Empire still employ him! Stay away !! read more

We hired Empire to install new flooring in our home. While we are happy with the look of the floor overall, the after effects of this experience was NOT good. Our entire house, every cabinet, crevasse, pantry, glass, dish was covered in dust. It has taken us over a week to clean all of this up. However, the worst part was the damage to our walls and baseboards. Every single baseboard and even my walls were damaged. I am having to hire a painter to paint all the baseboards and repair dents in our walls from the damage the installers caused and this will be alot of $$. When I completed the survey after the install, I received a call from a woman named Amanda who should not be in customer service. She initially offered to help support the damages that were caused which was promising and then called back and just did not even care about the damages that were caused at all. I felt like the call with me was wasting her time. I will NEVER use Empire again. Ever. I would avoid using this service for your flooring. When you are spending this kind of money. We set up a consultation with Empire Flooring and while Ryan came out promptly, and accommodated a late evening call for us. It started out well, and Ryan was very knowledgeable, but it quickly became a high-pressure sale and we felt corned into our price by having to agree to an install date and credit check for the financing. We ultimately ended up getting a better deal elsewhere, with someone we were more comfortable with, and were promised we could cancel or change our minds with Empire, no problem. After calling and being re-routed to multiple reps on the phone, and having to explain everything over and over, we were finally confirmed to be cancelled. Then the harassing texts came in at night, and early in the morning from Ryan. He were extremely unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. The lending bank ran our credit check three times, causing three hard hits to our credit, and now we are fighting with them to get the account closed and prove we didn't purchase with Empire. Don't let them pressure you into an over-priced mistake!!! read more

Empire installed LVP floors in our house and we are very happy with the end result. The Sale: I debated whether or not to use Empire Today. Their reviews were not great. When I asked about them, they explained the installation manager had been replaced and they no longer had the issues that were being reviewed. They use some sales tactics that I don't like. They want you to sign on the dotted line today or you will "lose your discount." Having been in industrial sales for nearly a decade, I despise this method. However, they only required a $50 deposit to hold the price with an open-ended install date. So we signed up and set an install date 3 months out. It gave us time to get other bids. We got 3 more bids over the next 2 weeks. Empire's bid was significantly higher than any of the other bids. The lowest bid was offering garbage flooring so we did not consider them. However, we had 2 bids with a similar quality product and turnkey installation. I liked the look of Empire's flooring best, but could not justify the additional 20%-30% in cost for flooring that looked slightly better and was of marginally better quality. I called them to cancel. They were polite and helpful when I canceled my order. They asked me to speak with someone to tell the specifics of why I was canceling. I agreed. I told their rep they were significantly higher in price. He asked me to hold to see if he could come up with a better price. After a few minutes, he came back and offered to lower their price to below the price of the other 2 bids I was considering. I agreed and stayed with the Empire. The installation: The 4 person crew arrived at 10 am on a Saturday. They were polite, courteous and got to business right away. Our installation was large, we were told it would take 2-4 days depending on prep time. They got our entire first floor installed by 6pm and said they would return on Monday morning to finish the last room on the 2nd floor. A second 2 person crew arrived Monday morning by 9am. They finished the office by 2pm. They cleaned up and hauled away everything when they left. They installed flooring in our first-floor powder room. I noticed the toilet was reinstalled crooked. I told them about the problem with the toilet on Monday. They came back on Tuesday and corrected the problem. We had one other minor issue with installation, they are correcting the issue this week. I would have given them 5 stars, but I did not like their sales methods. The floors look great and we would use Empire again in the future. read more

This has been one of the most horrible installation experiences. The sales pitch portion was fine, setting up the installation was fine... Until they didn't show up. And didn't let me know they weren't going to come... This wasn't just once. This has been a long drawn out process. Long story short, my floors need to be redone due to bubbling already. Two inspections were cancelled due to the manager being "sick." Then.. The reinstall was scheduled for today between 9-11. It has been scheduled for over two weeks. I called last night to verify that they were coming and what they would be doing- everything was in place. They were finally coming! I moved all of my living room items into the kitchen. There's a lot to move. At 11:00 I decided to call and see where my crew was. BILLY DID IT AGAIN. They were a no show. AND THEY WEREN'T GOING TO LET ME KNOW. If you live in the Austin area, DO NOT use empire Today unless you enjoy being let down and sitting around wasting your Saturday waiting for nobody to show up. Waiting on the general manager to call me back now. We shall see how it goes. Very frustrated. read more

They installed vinyl plank floors for the previous owners 2 months before we bought the house. Within a month of moving in the planks were separating at the seams (short and long seams). I did some research and this is most likely caused by poor installation - the expansion gaps are 2" wide. So, knowing that the warranty didn't transfer, I contacted Empire to see if they could work with us on repairing the floors. They suggested I hire them to replace all of the flooring. I am in shock. First of all, they have no pride in their work. Second of all, they are the last company I would ever consider. Horrible craftsmanship. Horrible customer service. Do not hire them. read more

We had Ryan come out to give us a quote on four rooms, one of which was damaged from the recent snow storm. He quoted us better than the other businesses; however, he is unprofessional and lacks major integrity. He told me he would give me a higher quote for the damaged bedroom so I can provide it to the insurance company and get more money so that I could do my other floors. I flat out told him that was dishonest, and I didn't agree with that. I told him I needed the week to make a decision. He text me the next day, we received multiple phone calls, and multiple emails asking us to move forward or "what price will it take to move forward". One of the calls I received was from the service manager. I told him about Ryan's lack or integrity, and he said he would speak to him about it. I continue receiving texts from Ryan after I told him we were moving forward with another company. Super pushy and company lacks integrity. read more

They arrived on time and did good work at a fair price. I know that they have had problems in the past and I told them so. They did a good job at my home though so hopefully they have gotten their act together. read more
