(Haircut customer) This is the best place in town I've found so far in terms of value for your money. I get a shampoo and simple haircut all for $13, whereas in other salons I'd have to pay at least $20 for a "cut your hair and leave" experience, and $40 for a shampoo with employees who will speak to me. The tradeoff is that it does take a very long time in the chair, I have to sit for around 2 hours each time, but it's very much worth the wait. The stylists who have cut my hair so far have all been very friendly and accommodating, willing to work with me on what I want, even if it's just an impulsive idea we can discuss together. I have heard that their hair dye work isn't the best, but since I never tried that service, I don't think I can comment on it. If you want the most value for your money and stylists that will listen to you beyond what people think you 'should' want out of your cut, Empire Beauty School is the place to go. read more

The manager with blonde hair really needs to work on her customer service. My son's locks needed a retwist and instead of listening to what I was asking for she immediately starts undoing all of them and saying they all need to be cut off. Thankfully there was a student there that knew how to retwist and was amazing. Next time, same manager refused to provide me service because my son was with me. The sign says accompanied at all times he was sitting right next to me and she still refused. Discriminatory against parents with no options for childcare or ability to get time off to get their hair done. Will never be returning . read more

I've been twice. The first time was a great experience except for being ignored mid transaction for a social conversation to the side. I had to interrupt to get their attention to ask if it was ok for me to leave, and they said yes but acted weird about it like I was being rude. The most recent experience I felt bad because I do think the girl is fairly new and since no one asked me she wasn't anticipating cutting 3" off. She kept trying to give me styles I didn't want even though I was very clear about what I wanted. Towards the end of my service, I started having some intense anxiety waiting under the dryer about other things going on and asked if I could cut the dryer time short. I told her I knew she still had to rinse me and get her services checked by an instructor. Well the instructor showed up super (obnoxiously) bubbly. I told her I was having anxiety about other things and was sorry I wouldn't be very good at conversation but that the student was very nice and accommodating. With that, she apparently decided she didn't need to check my hair at all and told me I was free to leave. A week later I am still finding bits of hair that are a couple of inches longer than the rest. The most recent in the very front of my face. My hair springs up as it dries which is why it took so long to notice and I realize it was a student who did the cut so I'm not upset with her at all. I'm blaming this squarely on the instructor who was wearing a long pink ballerina skirt and apparently doesn't realize she can check a cut without forcing someone into conversation when they're having anxiety that limits their ability to socialize. The student managed my anxiety much much better than the instructor. She still was professional and wanted to make sure she finished what needed to be done. If this is a place of education, the quality of that education lies in the quality of your instructors. read more

However I have to give -1 star for canceling the Brazilian wax studies and not allowing us to practice it halfway through our course. I can only pick a 1 star review. we attempted to enroll my wife and had an appt at 6pm. we arrived at 550 and waited 10 minutes for ANYONE to talk to us. we told 2 different people why we were there and they wandered off and never came back. We left at 620 pm without seeing anyone. We were going to write a check, it was a done deal as my wife attended empire in Gilbert for a time,but I'm glad I saw the schools lack of professionalism and courtesy before I wrote it. My favorite part of all of this was when they called the next day about us not showing up. . I would suggest to anyone looking at cosmetology school to look elsewhere. why would I give this school any money when their leadership cant even keep an appointment and then claim we didn't show up. read more

Update, we drove back, they showed us that her had to be styled to see the perm, they also refunded the cost. We are satisfied with the outcome. My mom went in for a perm today, took 3 1/2 hours and her hair is still straight hardly any curl, I called they want me to drive her back for them to evaluate, we drove 1 hour each way we are not driving back to be evaluated, they did not supervise or check the work being done, we are not happy read more

After being screwed around three times, I will not be returning to Empire. I HAVE TRIED to give Empire my business but every time it has been like pulling teeth to get what I want and what I expect. The latest affront is I booked an appointment to have lash fills and when I got here I was told my technician doesn't even come in today! Of course there is no one who can step in. WTF! I take time out of my schedule, I am respectful of my appointment time and get here to be treated this way? The standard reply is we can rebook. Well I've already gone that route. I made the appointment today BECAUSE IM GOING OUT OF TOWN! MY TIME IS VALUABLE. REBOOKING IS NOT ALWAYS AN OPTION. GET YOU F******ACT TOGETHER. STOP TREATING YOUR CLIENTS LIKE THEY ARE NOT A PRIORTY! Went back to get my nails redone, got the same student. This time they fell off after 2 days. She claimed they were out of products the last time I visited, and that's why my nails didn't last. This time she had everything, and they lasted a shorter time then the first time.... Yeah not cool. I didn't even bother to complain this time, whats the use? Not very customer friendly. Staff will cancel appointments, without calling me. Front desk students are sometimes under-trained. Students are courteous. Staff attitudes range from good, to apathetic. Over the years, and at various times I went there for haircuts. I have very bad knees, made an appointment for a haircut, when I got there ALL the students were in a "special" class - so I am not special? Inconsiderate staff at front counter told me to come back in four hours! At the least she should have offered a coupon for a free haircut to make up for my trouble. I read reviews on Google before going and was pretty terrified to get my hair cut, but I am on a really strict budget and decided to gamble on a $9 haircut. I have to say that I was really impressed with my stylist and the overall service there. My stylist was awesome and did a fantastic job. The teacher Brandy is also great and goes around and supervises each step to make sure that you are happy with how the haircut is progressing. I have been wanting to get a little color in my hair, and now I think I will finally go and get it done here after such a great experience. read more

Scheduled a pedicure appointment for my husband. Cou,don't cut his nails myself as his nails are very thick and I wanted a "professional" to handle the toes. I know, it's a school and they are not professional, but I thought since they are "in the business" they might have been a little professional. Not so. Had to wait even though we had an appointment. Then they hemmed and hawed because his nails are thick. Tried to tell us he might have fungus and they would have to get an OK to do the pedicure. Husband doesn't have toe fungus. As we were waiting he said "I don't like the vibe here, let's go" Indeed the place has a vibe kind of like a bus station, lots of apathy and desperation. Have never used a beauty school for anything. I came here after losing my long-time stylist and trying other salons around town without success. I figured, what do I have to lose? I started going to Empire three years ago, and plan to continue. I enjoy meeting the students and learning about their history and career plans. Yes, they are students in training and yes, it's usually a different student each time, but overall I have gotten cuts that were as good as or better than I've gotten at a number of salons I visited previously. I like coming here. It is definitely affordable and convenient if you are not in a hurry. It is a school after all. They need to get permission to cut, color, etc. After the cut, color, etc., the student needs to ask the instructor to come over to check for any problems. My daughter loves the "Princess Package." PART-TIME---DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL FOR YOUR COSMETOLOGY EDUCATION!!!I am a current night student getting ready to graduate-thank God!!!! As a professional, I never write bad reviews, however, this is a warning to people out there who are considering this school for their cosmetology education. It needs to be known because we don't need any inexperienced or uneducated cosmetologists out there, but more educated ones. This school is an absolute joke!!!! The education is by far less than mediocre. EXAMPLE: some of the instructors haven't taken boards in years, so in reality, how are they supposed to teach a state board practical pre-test? A couple of the instructors don't even know what cut we are supposed to do for board. I really feel bad for the director, Dawn, who has spent countless amounts of her time trying to get things done but the corporate office just continues to tie her hands who then ties Rita, an instructor, to assist in a continued education program for the enrichment students. The night students rarely get the education that the day students get because we haven't had a permanent instructor so we just get bypassed for everything. We have a new instructor, Christy, who is seriously just trying to find consistency in a school who doesn't have consistency, starting from the Corporate office down. To top it off, we never have product to do services on clients. EXAMPLE: one of my fellow night students was getting ready to perm a clients hair when she realized, we don't even have perm solution. Another EXAMPLE: no back bar to wash a clients hair-seriously??? And nail polish-well if you like 50 shades of purple or green, please stop by for a manicure-haha!! The corporate office had been down the last 2 days to say they are here to help, but that too is a joke. They wanted to tell us the exciting news- they are going to paint our interior walls a different color nation wide- OMG!!!! A joke!!!! They seriously think that's important vs. our education. Corporate office is more worried that you are following the dress code guidelines vs. really looking to see if the students that are graduating from Empire, can actually do the services without assistance from an instructor. I think the only reason I will be successful in a career in cosmetology is because I had a year of GREAT education by some AMAZING instructors at Regency Beauty Institute and a couple instructors here at Empire. The students I work side by side, as well have been great resources too. I know people will laugh at that statement alone because they closed down without notice, but they closed down because they went bankrupt for what ever reason, but not from a lack of educating the students. If anyone is looking to get an education in cosmetology and you can only go part-time, find a school OUTSIDE of Tucson. This school is an embarrassment and I will not be putting this school down on my resume. If I wasn't so close to graduating, I would transfer to another school. The only good that came out of my being at this school was the amazing friendships I created with some amazing talented people. The only reason why this school stays afloat is from the thousands of dollars us students pay and because in all reality, there are a few instructors here who really care about their students. read more
