When I got there I felt like I was sitting in a 70s car shop with the wood panel walls and black and white tv and a few older gentlemen behind the counter. When I was unable to get ahold of anyone to pick me up from the repair shop, one of the men offered to call his wife so she could drive me home - how sweet! Visibility is required in order to gain the best possible understanding of what one pays for. Unfortunately, for me, Sonomatic was unable/unwilling to accommodate what is a generally accepted business practice. Although things have changed since John S. from La Grange went there (i.e. - they'll conduct a diagnostic for free now), the fact that they were quoting $1880 for a leaking solenoid pack on a transmission was extreme. Where did Sonematic get this $1880 from? (NOTE: I would later go to Mike Zoppa at Odgen Car Care. He quoted a little over $400 for the exact same service. And I only told him about the "Check Engine" light!) I asked to see an invoice showing those charges by line item (e.g. "Cost of Parts", "Services rendered", "Labor" and "Taxes"). All I wanted was justification, by specifics, of how they came to that number - as would be expected from any other established business. The associate shrugged off my direct question, referring instead to their 60 year tenure. Okay, congratulations, that still doesn't answer my question! Drifting away from the poor customer service, I would have never known about the leaking solenoid pack had I not recorded the discussions on my work phone - again, this information is not on their quote papers! A breakdown of their charges was something that I had requested prior to picking up my car. They didn't object to it at the time. However, when I went to pick up the car, they didn't have that paper ready, and were generally dismissive about not having it ready. No apologies offered, or explanations given! If a fair question about a customer concern shakes one up so, then I'm frankly surprised that Sonomatic remains in business. Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more I took my vehicle to A-Team Tire & Auto on Joliet Road because my A/C was working on and off, sometimes blowing hot air, and the A/C fan was making a loud, unusual noise. What followed was a nightmare. I went back four times and spent almost $1,400, yet the loud fan noise I originally complained about was never properly addressed. I eventually had to take my vehicle to the dealership and spend another $250. What made the situation even more frustrating was that when I brought the dealership receipt back to the owner, the original complaint about the loud noise was nowhere on A-Team's invoice. I clearly mentioned the noise from the beginning, the manager heard me describe it, and even commented on the issue. For that complaint to somehow not appear on the paperwork afterward seems pretty fishy to me. A few weeks later, I also noticed that my dashboard A/C vents were damaged. When I brought this up, I was told by the manager" They wouldn't have had any reason to mess with the vents." Pretty interesting to me how you wouldn't have a reason to mess with my vents, when the whole reason for being there was no ac/ ents blowing hot air and noise coming from fan... And after all of that, the A/C isn't even blowing cold. After four trips, nearly $1,400 spent at this shop, another $250 at the dealership, and all the frustration I've dealt with, I still don't have an A/C system that works properly. I'm extremely disappointed with both the service and the lack of accountability. Based on my experience, I would absolutely not recommend this shop.

They also quoted two options incase I wanted the one that was for my car or an aftermarket option. This was lovely since there was a large price difference in parts. Labor was the same. I then returned with my Dad's car. He had been quoted at another place and the issue was identified as something totally different and costly. They provided and showed me the issue and reasonable quote. The labor cost per hour was consistent with my car so I felt reassured they were constant with labor costs. Finally, I returned when my car decided to have coolant issues. Also, i damaged the brand new muffler when i had a panic attack over the coolant light coming on. They went above and beyond trying to salvage/repair it so I wouldn't have to buy another one and they were successful. They did an amazing job with identifying the issues around the coolant and inspected more than a single part to ensure they fixed the entire problem and not just the problem that triggered the warning on my dashboard. They provided a reasonable estimate that was itemized and tried to save me money on the parts where they could. They also completed the entire repair in a reasonable timeframe that I didn't have to plan being without car for an extended period of time. Highly recommend. Rob was amazing to work with. He was knowledgeable and patient with my questions since I only know the basic mechanics of my car.
