Prior to coming to Emory, I tried to save money by going to MIRACLE Surrogacy in Cancun, Mexico. Although, they claimed that their fertility rates were on par with the United States, after 2 failed transfers, I asked them for proof/evidence for their success rates. After they couldn't provide me with anything, I decided to restart the process in the United States. Instead of being blinded by the prospects of having a baby, I decided to research fertility clinics extensively. I decided to go to Emory, since they had the highest success rates and I felt comfortable speaking with the physicians. (I reached out to ACRM, Shady Grove Fertility, Pathways Fertility, and Reproductive Biology Associates too). The other places did not have a good selection of frozen embryos to choose from and they tried to charge extra money for using 3rd party organization donor eggs. Also, a few were very pushy and tried to offer unnecessary services that I knew were not recommended based on YouTube videos I watched online. Right now, I'm passed the 1st trimester and I want to share my review before the baby comes - and I won't have the time. I wanted to give a HUGE thanks to the Patient SRVS Coordinator Lorraine Smith-Richards, Nurse Clinician Stephanie Soloway, Nurse Laura Frings (very good at keeping me updated by calling and emailing), Dr. Heather Hipp, Dr. Audrey Marsidi (embryo transferor, which was successful on the first try), and Dr. James Toner for making this process possible. I was a patient of Dr. Spencer's for fertility preservation. She was awesome! Everyone I interacted with was great. I went through two egg freezing cycles in June 2016 and August 2016. They were compassionate and patient throughout the entire process. When I had questions, they quickly responded either via phone or through the online portal. On retrieval days, they were on time and kept me up to date on what to expect. I will likely need assistance conceiving in the future, so I will definitely return to Emory Reproductive Center! I even had a question for her about a year after my last retrieval and she quickly replied to me. You should be aware that it costs $5 (maybe more if you are there for more than an hour or two) to park in the parking deck onsite. Our experience with Dr. Kawwass was nothing less than grandiose, magnificent, and terrific. My husband and I were treated with loving care. We never felt like a number within the system. Claudia always greeted us with a smile even at 7:00 AM in the mornings. The patient ladies who drew my blood were amazing, and I am a difficult stick. The nurse, Michelle, she was a pure angel. Dr. Kawwass was always smiling and hugged me each time that she saw me. She even took the time to call me herself at times. Yes, that is right she would call as well to check on me. The only issue that is experiencing is that now that we are pregnant and had to graduate someone else it is difficult to find another doctor and staff to live up to ERC's standards. My wife and I tried to have kids for a year until we realized there was a problem. So we needed to go through some sort of treatment. We did one IUI and one IVF in some other clinic in Atlanta, but none was successful. Until we we decided to give it another shot in Emory Reproductive Center. First, you should note that their average success rate is way higher than the national average, and also it is higher than any institution in Atlanta. Even higher than California! Actually this is old data, now they do even better. Second, I believe since Emory is also a medical school, they are very up to date. They are using the most advanced technology and they also base their work on the latest research and the most recent discoveries. Our Doctor was Dr. Jennifer Kawwass. In my opinion, she is the best infertility specialist in the entire nation, maybe in the world. She really knows what she is doing. She is super smart, very up to date in her field, highly knowledgeable and very serious. She is also one f the top researchers in Emory University. Other than these, she is also very kind and she just gives you hope and confidence. Whenever we walked out of her office, we felt like "WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS". She is a super human. They also have a fabulous team over there! Dr. Spencer, who did the retrieval for us, Dr. Abhari, Dr. Marsidi, their embryologist who we never met, but I believe is Dr. Shang and many others that we haven't met. But they are a fantastic team. They just make dreams come true. Probably one of the best teams in the world. Last but not least, I want to talk about the nurses. They are sooooo kind, and hardworking. Lutissa and Nancy were our two nurses. They were very helpful and they did whatever they could to help us. We always felt very attended to and from the first appointment to our last appointment everyone was very accommodating and everything was handled in a professional manner. We really had a good experience and highly recommend Emory Reproductive. Our first round of IVF was successful and has resulted in our first baby. We plan on returning to work with Dr. Kawwass for growing our family. I have been using emory Reproductive center for 2.5 years now. I have done two IVF cycles (one fresh and one frozen) and all of my fertility testing there. With the fresh cycle, I was in the office almost every day for a month. Never once had a bad experience. For the frozen cycle, I still had many appts and still no bad experiences. Dr. Kawwass is amazing and personable. The staff responds to patient portal messages quickly. I could go on and on about this place and how much my husband and I love it. After all, they have given us the opportunity to have 2 pregnancies, when we had such small chances of conceiving. I wish I could receive care in this office for my entire pregnancy, that's how much I love them. All the staff is wonderful, but I highly recommend Dr. Kawwass. read more

Before deciding to contact Emory, I tried 2 other clinics. Each had advertised the shared risk program (have a baby or your money back) but due to my low AMH and high FSH I did not qualify. After I was rejected from a couple of other similar programs at different locations (it was unlikely I would help their statistics) I decided to go to Emory. I did my research and they have some of the highest success rates around and they do not reject patients due to blood work levels. My mindset had switched from saving money to finding the best doctor available. My main doctor at Emory was Dr. Kawwass. There was no comparison between Dr. Kawwass/ Emory and the other fertility specialists. Dr. Kawwass was both honest and positive minded about my ivf plan. When I didn't react to the medicines on my first attempt, I about had a meltdown but Dr. Kawwass helped me calm down and reassured me that we would find a protocol that worked for me. On my 2nd attempt, I find myself 9 weeks pregnant (for the 1st time in my life) and I couldn't be more grateful that I chose Emory. Two of the other doctors (Dr. Spencer and Dr. Schirmer) were also involved in my ivf process and I felt well taken care of in everyone's' hands. The portal you can use to communicate on is always answered promptly. All of the nurses and technicians are kind, knowledgeable and very professional. Dr. Kawwass is brilliant and has true empathy for her patients. The entire practice is wonderful. I could go on and on but bottom line... I cannot recommend them enough if you are looking for a fertility specialists, especially if you were given a poor prognosis by another practice. You won't feel like a number at Emory. Unfortunately, all of the one star reviews on Emory are completely true and accurate. I didn't want to believe them either - I promise - until the same scenarios happened to me. At my first appointment, Jessica and Haley (financial consultants) informed me that my insurance would pay 100% of my care until I got to the IUI stage. Therefore, I proceeded with treatment as suggested. 4 cycles and 4.5 months later, I received a statement from Emory saying I owed for almost every visit. Out of my MANY visits over those 4.5 months, I was not told a single time that I had a balance on my account, nor that my insurance wasn't covering what they thought it would. After much discussion with the Emory team, including the manager, I'm left with no pregnancy and a massive bill that I didn't know was coming. The care I had under Dr. Hipp was good.. but the fact that Emory has taken ZERO responsibility for giving me incorrect information resulting in an astronomical bill (that they expect me to pay immediately) is absolutely unacceptable. I highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. read more

Dr. Jennifer Kawwass was uncompassionate when she diagnosed me with premature ovarian failure (POF). I would email/call her office for questions assistance and got the run around from her. It took far too long to get the diagnosis to begin with from her. Based on my own search via online, journal articles and gynecology textbooks, I concluded I had this terrible diagnosis. When I told her and her office that I suspected I had POF which was progressing rapidly for some reason, they just dragged their feet on treating me in a timely manner. I really wanted to begin fertility treatments asap, since there was an urgency and I 37 at the time. Dr. Kawwass attempted to induce a period for me using promethium orally, which did not work. Medical text on progesterone challenge will show this is not the appropriate technique to induce a bleed. However, I trusted her expertise. After not getting a bleed for over a week and a half, I emailed/called her. She didn't have the decency to even reply to my inquiry. I had to call and speak with the nurse who then brought my concerns to her. Her response was she just wanted to wait for my period to start, however long it might take. I practically had to beg for Provera and ended up discussing the matter with her medical director. The medical director prescribed Provera, which induced a bleed and I finally began treatment with her after waiting over a month. She gave me a very poor protocol for my IUI and could not answer questions I had about the procedure. For instance, she prescribed 150IU of Menopur for my IUI. Upon my research of Menopur, I discovered it's not recommended if one has high baseline FSH and LH (which I had because of my POF). When I emailed her asking the rationale behind using it and if it would work in my case, her response via email was "I hope so." I'm sorry but this was an unacceptable response from an RE. That IUI was a disaster! I only had 1 follicle and a 5mm lining. When I voiced concerns about the lining, she told me "Plenty of women get pregnant with a thin lining. Plus, the Menopur will help to thicken your lining." Now in retrospect, I know that's not true. She told me that at max I would have the IUI done 36 hours after my trigger shot. I had an office visit with her prior to my IUI to discuss the logistics. Instead of voicing my concerns she kept on forcing donor eggs down my throat. I told her I was not interested in the donor route, but she was relentless. I remember when I was asking questions about the IUI, she slid a green paper towards me as she sat behind the desk in her office. When I looked at the paper it was information about using an egg donor. I was very upset she gave me this paper after repeatedly telling her I'm not interested. When I asked her why she gave this to me she said, "Just read it over and if you don't want it, just throw it away." This woman does not have any tact! The morning of the IUI, my husband and I showed up at 7 am. When we entered the clinic there was literally 15 people there. I thought it was odd for so many people to be there on a Saturday morning, but figured it was people doing monitoring. My husband had to go to work, so he gave the clinic his sperm and left. My appointment was scheduled for 8 am, but 8 am came and went. After 9 am, I asked the receptionist what was going on. At that point, the waiting room was even more full of people and there hardly was any patient movement. She told me that there was a scheduling error and they were overbooked. When I expressed the concerns regarding the time of my trigger shot, the state of my husband's sperm since it had been sitting for over an hour, etc. she was not concerned and just told me I would be called soon. Then after 10 am, I was very agitated. I told the receptionist that I was way past the 36-hour trigger window and my husband's sperm was probably ruined. I also was concerned because I had a lot riding on this IUI. Since I had POF, I had no clue when or IF I would even produce another egg. Again, the receptionist, like my RE, was very dismissive. After 42 hours past my trigger shot, I finally got called back for my insemination. However, I had to wait some more in the procedure area. Naturally, a fellow, not Dr. Kawwass, did the procedure so I could not voice my timing concerns to Kawwass. The fellow just inseminated me and told me I could leave right after. When I asked her about if I should lie still for 10-15 minutes after the insemination, she told me to leave so they could free the room since they were overbooked that day and had more procedures. Of course, that IUI did not take and I was left with an estrogen-producing cyst. Dr. Kawwass prescribed birth control pills for 3 weeks, which did more harm than good. I was told after finishing the birth control pills to come in for a baseline ultrasound. Everything looked good and I was told to take letrozole and more Menopur for 2 weeks. read more

Dr. Hipp is amazing, she is overly sympathetic and extremely responsive. I have PCOS and endometriosis combined with being over 35 and did not get pregnant for years naturally. In 2017 I came in and did a One IUI cycle and has a successful birth. Most recently, I froze my eggs and did an IVF cycle and she was amazing to work with. I had a lot of questions and concerns and Dr. Hipp took her time re-explaining. I would hands down recommend her and her staff for any reproductive needs. read more

THE CDC ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) reports of all the success/failure rates of every clinic, in every state, speak for themselves. Emory, hands down has the highest success rates. My IVF experiences were many years ago where I started off in a very fancy prominent office with several convenient locations and both the first and second IVF cycle resulted in 1 viable embryo each, to be transferred and resulted in zero pregnancies. After my second IVF I discovered the existence of the CDC reports. Even though the locations were not as convenient (but isn't any drive worth it for the best care?), for my 3rd and final attempt I switched to Emory and it was the best decision I could have ever made. I had so many embryos we did a day 5 transfer instead of a day 3 and had embryos left to freeze. As a result of my one cycle at Emory I now have a healthy beautiful son from the initial fresh transfer and 1 healthy daughter from one of the frozen embryos. During my experience I was under the amazing care of Dr. Spencer and Dr. Kawwass. Also know that Emory isn't a private clinic. It is a teaching hospital as as such much of your follow up care will be by doctors in training or nurses but all of the decisions made for your care are decided by the group of very accomplished doctors. After being diagnosed with unexplained infertility, I had four IUI's and two IVF egg retrievals with three embryo transfers performed at Emory Reproductive Center over the course of the last 1.5 years. None of the procedures resulted in a pregnancy. My primary doctor was Jennifer Kawwass. I chose to receive care from Emory because of their overall level of education and expertise compared to other clinics in the Atlanta area. Not only do you receive attention from some of the most highly qualified specialists in the country, but you also work with doctors doing fellowships who are young, bright, eager and up-to-date on the latest research. Between IUI's and IVF I went to GRS to receive IVF treatment (which didn't lead to pregnancy either) because I wanted to try somewhere new and different. But, I ended up going back to Emory because I felt that the doctors were smarter and more invested in my success. When treatments failed, I felt like they were experiencing the failure with me. The Emory system is big and bureaucratic, creating administrative and logistical hassles that you might not receive at other private clinics. But, for me, I decided I was ok dealing with them because at the end of the day what mattered most was the decisions my doctors made and the quality of the procedures I received from medical staff. Dr. Kawwass was amazingly supportive and gave me her direct email address and phone number to use if I ever needed it. Dr. Kawwass is great! She was very empathetic towards my husband and me as we tried to figure out the source of our fertility struggles. She explained the different tests and options very thoroughly and listened to our opinions and concerns for each. You're in the situation of seeking fertility assistance. Perhaps you've had 6 months of unanswered questions, perhaps you've had a year or longer. No matter what, it's a crappy situation. But you are now at Emory Reproductive and can exhale. You walk in and it's instantly different. It's not your "standard" fertility center. You're greeted by 2 wonderful women who welcome you every single visit and are aware of where you are in the process, giving you encouragement and support the entire time. But it only gets better at Emory. You meet with any of the doctors in the clinic and you're not being given outcomes and statistics with a negative doomsday approach, you are having a conversation. A conversation that discusses your options, educates you on treatment plans, provides realistic and accessible details on all possible scenarios. For us, it was the most remarkable change from all the other clinics we visited. Everyone at ERC was invested in us and building our family. They are kind, supportive and extremely responsive. ERC made the scary experience of IVF manageable. It allowed my husband and I to experience the process together, because not only did I have wonderful interactions with all of the doctors, staff and nurses but he did too. I can't say enough wonderful things about the team at Emory Reproductive. Over the past two years, we have had the privilege to work with most of the staff. The team is caring, supportive and genuinely invested in your success. I never felt like a number at Emory. Dr. Kawwass was responsible for leading my care; she always went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable with every treatment we were entering into to. Dr. Kawwass would sit with us for as long as it took to make sure we understood and were comfortable with the plan. Dr. Kawwass and Lutissa were both super attentive at portal messaging and would typically respond within a few hours, regardless of the day of the week or time. I really can't say enough great things about the team, they are all wonderful. From the front desk and billing team to the surgery center, everyone has been so wonderful to both me and my husband. I hate getting my blood drawn but Cathy is truly the best in town. She always gets it on the first try! For us our infertility process was significantly longer than we expected, we pretty much tried all of Emory's service offerings (IUI's to IVF). The Emory team was always extremely detailed in all their testing and procedures. In the end, Dr. Kawwass created a unique IVF protocol which resulted in my pregnancy.
