MyPower, Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of Hobbs, NM…read more After my daughter's promotion to 6th grade, I decided to apply on her behalf for the MyPower Leadership Camp which was held July 16-19, 2024. She made the cut of who knows how many girls, but the camp ended up with a total of 150 students from Lea County. We received 3 post cards, a detailed letter, and text messages during the summer to remind & prepare us of the event. This program was developed to empower young girls by helping them "make good choices, set goals, succeed academically, and avoid teen pregnancy." It's high energy. Engaging. Interactive. Strategic. Comprehensive. My daughter learned a few life lesson tips along the way. Made some new friends. And participated in a graduation celebration. Because of this program, my daughter was much more confident going into middle school. For all four days, the young girls were bused to the Hobbs High Freshman campus from a convenient location which was an elementary school. Given free camp t-shirts. Fed breakfast, snacks, and lunch then given a ride back to their local designated elementary campus. Thanks to the financial support of numerous local organizations & companies including City of Hobbs, Lea County Board of Commissioners, Chevron, URENCO, and many more, this camp was free for all girls! I have met the program's executive director who is an absolutely amazing, charming woman. She has an amazing team too & an outstanding volunteer base. Highly recommend. If you have a student who is currently a 5th grader, look into this program before it fills up fast! For more information, visit mypowerinc.org.

My hometown Habitat for Humanity makes me proud!…read more Yesterday--May 8, 2024-- I called their office to inquire about how furniture donations work. A receptionist referred me over to her coordinator. The coordinator explained that as long as the furniture pieces had no damage or stains that most likely the items would be accepted. Then she had me text her some photos. After giving me their blessing that they would accept them they gathered my address and pick up information as I was not able to bring them to the store. I am not sure what their mile radius is, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if they would be able to pick items up for you. If you're able to drop off items, this large building in Hobbs, New Mexico is easy to find next to Tractor Supply. Today--May 9, 2024--when the two guys who arrived on time (11AM) to pick up my sofa and loveseat donations, they were very cordial and mentioned that the set I was donating was very nice. I hope somebody will appreciate them as much as I did. Please donate or volunteer for Habitat: https://www.hobbshabitat.org/about-us

A few years ago, I learned that "New Mexico is number one in the country for child food insecurity…read more(meaning having little to no food on the weekends)." Another devastating fact: 23% of kids in my county of Lea were "food insecure." That's simply no good. The Weekend Hunger Initiative (WHI) Hobbs Backpack Program is an opportunity for those who can to donate and volunteer in an effort to "deliver bags of food to Hobbs Municipal Schools students who are food insecure over the weekends." Coming up soon is their Christmas in July Food Drive from July 23-31, 2026. They "invite local businesses, churches, organizations, and clubs to join us in collecting shelf-stable food items and helping us restock for the upcoming school year." WHI essentially turns this non-profit event into a friendly competition. I am thrilled about how important community service is in my hometown of Hobbs, NM. This is such an amazing program! On a different note, my own kids do not participate in the program as I am very blessed. But my oldest daughter noticed that some of the middle school kids who receive bags on Friday afternoons have been seen throwing full bags away in the dumpsters at school or in trash cans right in front of teachers. That is pretty disheartening and I wonder if their parents know this. They couldn't save it for someone else to eat? Seriously?! For more info, go to https://www.whihobbs.com/.

Classes take place at Rockwind Community Links, formerly known as Ocotillo Golf Course, just north of town. My daughters, currently ages 10 & 11, have been in the program since March 2023. I've been around numerous staff and coaches who facilitate the program. Not only do they stress the importance of fundamentals, but they keep it fun and at the end of each session they discuss pillars pertaining to character and sportsmanship like respect and responsibility. Classes usually begin at the practice area, but First Tee does have their own office building for when parents need to drop of voluntary fundraiser money and pick up orders. The usual rate is $60 per child for an 8-week session, one class per week typically beginning at 4:15PM. Extra day camps are also offered throughout the year. Back in April (2024). the co-owners of my company expressed their desire to have our leftover catered food from our business party delivered to Isaiah's. That task was assigned to me. Don't they know not to trust me with food though?! Lol. I wasn't too clear as to how the process worked at first as I never could reach them on the phone, but here's my advice... Non-perishable items may be left at the door during off hours. If you are not comfortable doing that or if you have perishable food like we did, then deliver them in person at around 10 AM or sometime well before noon. I have never noticed anybody inside between 7 and 8 AM. The owner, Tabitha, was a very kind lady. Her volunteers & workers were also real friendly & gracious. Most recently, they even walked out to my Jeep and carried our donations back inside for me. What a great way to serve our community & not waste food!

In my possession on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, was a very important birthday package that needed to be sent ASAP, but not so ASAP that I had to pull a loan... Lol. The employee who assisted me was welcoming & efficient. She didn't try to persuade me to purchase an unnecessary, more expensive method of shipping. There was ample parking at this middling site. It's a bit lackluster on the outside & inside, but it gets the job done. My package recipient was opening their birthday gift by Friday so I'm a happy camper.

My bosses requested that I hire a local company for graphics on our plain company trucks…read more I went with Awesome Graphics out of Hobbs, NM, and am mostly pleased with the results. They offer... + screen printed & embroidered apparel + custom signs + banners + promotional products (including koozies, drink ware, pet gear, & much more) + printed & cut vinyl decals & stickers. My first step back in Januaray 2023 was to gather information about the whole process. I didn't pick up where I left off until July. The graphic designer, Brittany, was friendly and easy to work with. At the time, I didn't know what questions I needed answers to as this was the first project of this kind that I had ever worked on. We wanted decals on the back passenger windows that would allow one to see out of the vehicles from inside. We also needed my office/mobile phone number on the back end sides of each truck. Additionally, each truck needed its unit number on the tail gate. The design looks good. The actual vinyl on the window is good until you get up close then you can see jagged cuts around the edges. I'm not too concerned about it though unless it starts peeling. All of the proofs were approved or declined through email. The program they use for this is mostly user-friendly. Our small business currently has a fleet of only 4 work trucks, but we also have several closed and open trailers that may potentially need graphics in the future. Half of the estimate was due at the time of signing the work contract. The other half is due after the order is complete. They accept checks, plastic cards, and online payments. The other staff member & the owner - Tonya & Lauren - have been great to work with, accommodating our crazy schedule including the missed appointment one of my bosses had when he fell ill with the flu. The only concerns I have are 1) that some of the window vinyl has bubbles in them still and 2) they duplicated one of the unit numbers are the back of two trucks even though the proofs showed them correctly. I let them know about this and there still has been no communication about this in over a week. TIPS + free quotes + lead time is 2+ weeks
