This place has a few pitfalls that keep me from not purchasing a yearly membership: First off, the wait to get to where you're going can be a bit much. The lines are a bit confusing as it is. They've since simplified it within the 9 months that I have lived here, but it could be even more simpler. Second, the clientele are less than appeasing. I tend to cause like a sailor, but not in public. It gets old. Amenities: + cardio equipment on the top floor + free weights, plate loaded, and selectorized machines on the bottom floor + gym (the floor is lined for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, four-square & shuffleboard) + indoor track + lap pool + locker room + personal trainer available + racquetball courts (2 available... reservations also available) + splash pad + spa (for ages 13 years & up) + sports programs (adult & youth) + studio & wellness classes + turf (soccer, flag football, ultimate frisbee, & golf) + water slides (4' & taller) My girls have participated in the volleyball classes here which were okay, but not very competitive. Just this past weekend (5/6/2023) I took the to the splash area for the first time area. Even though I declined to swim, I was still charged admission ($4 for the entire day). My 8 & 9-year-olds were charged $3 apiece for entry. In the splash area which is completely indoors, there are two sets of bleachers and multiple individual lounge chairs and side tables scattered all around. Free parking.

The MLK Soccerplex is the premier outdoor soccer complex in Hobbs, NM…read more It's located on the south side of town on the Eunice Highway. The parking can get chaotic because the spots are crowded in some areas. Plus many folks don't take the time to park between the lines. The lanes are also tight. Once on the field, the soccer fields are not marked. So when the soccer league gives you a map, make sure to screenshot it and save it to your smart phone. The fields this year (March/April 2023) could use a bit of deweeding and more grass care. Field H where my daughter plays is fairly uneven & bumpy. Additionally, if it ever rains here, the fields will surely flood as all 8 soccer fields are in this giant pit-like situation. While there are bleachers, they are a bit on the small side. I suggest bringing foldout chairs. There is also the following: + restrooms + BBQ Grill + pavillions + lights + picnic tables + and a concrete walking trail.

In Jefferson's defense, it is on the south side of town - meaning it's too far for most Hobbsans to consider - plus it's tucked away in a lesser known area. I used to teach at the elementary nearby over 10 years ago... I don't recall any of this being within short walking distance of the school: + basketball courts + bbq grills + lights + pavilions + picnic tables + playground + restrooms + sand volleyball courts + soccer goals + youth baseball fields (still referred to as Bensing Park) + & a .80-mile walking path I give this city park 4 stars because while it has great amenities, it is not at all debris-free nor is it in a particularly nice neighborhood.

MyPower, Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of Hobbs, NM…read more After my daughter's promotion to 6th grade, I decided to apply on her behalf for the MyPower Leadership Camp which was held July 16-19, 2024. She made the cut of who knows how many girls, but the camp ended up with a total of 150 students from Lea County. We received 3 post cards, a detailed letter, and text messages during the summer to remind & prepare us of the event. This program was developed to empower young girls by helping them "make good choices, set goals, succeed academically, and avoid teen pregnancy." It's high energy. Engaging. Interactive. Strategic. Comprehensive. My daughter learned a few life lesson tips along the way. Made some new friends. And participated in a graduation celebration. Because of this program, my daughter was much more confident going into middle school. For all four days, the young girls were bused to the Hobbs High Freshman campus from a convenient location which was an elementary school. Given free camp t-shirts. Fed breakfast, snacks, and lunch then given a ride back to their local designated elementary campus. Thanks to the financial support of numerous local organizations & companies including City of Hobbs, Lea County Board of Commissioners, Chevron, URENCO, and many more, this camp was free for all girls! I have met the program's executive director who is an absolutely amazing, charming woman. She has an amazing team too & an outstanding volunteer base. Highly recommend. Humble Park lies next to the Hobbs Animal Adoption Center and Shelter in Hobbs, NM…read more The public park is near the busy Grimes St, however, there is street parking that allows for a good barrier from the buzzing cars. Humble Pool is also nearby, but to my knowledge the public pool hasn't been open on years so I don't know why it still exists. I like this park because... + playground equipment + picnic tables + sand volleyball court + shade trees + pavillions + bbq grill + restrooms + wide open spaces + leashed dogs allowed (dog waste station with trash can was available) The surrounding area is a bit industrial, but you get past that. My oldest daughter came with me here on January 29, 2026 to check it out. She says it definitely has potential. :) I will also add that it was surprisingly well-maintained - free of trash. I remember walking here with my kindergarten class when I was a teacher at the nearby Jefferson Elementary. Those kids are all grown up and have graduated high school. Sweet memories. Still a fan.

The Hobbs Gun Club is even better with people you trust and early in the morning…read more The Sunday before last, September 14, 2025, all the folks out there were fairly good at range etiquette and communication when my brother asked if he and his son could set up new targets. My dad is an old school silhouette competitor so he of course announced loudly "cease fire" and later "range is open" even after verifying with the other small groups that everyone was back and safe. There are restrooms. My daughter said they weren't bad. The setup is nice. On the furthest side are the shortest bays for pistols. The shotgun range has launchers... geeze, those are shoulder/elbow savers. Lol. The rifle range is shaded with concrete benches and adjustable seats. Buy your $100 year-long membership at The Gun Shack which is no longer on Bender Blvd. Earlier this year, they moved to the plaza near Undergrounds Coffee on Grimes.

Bowling is such great fun with my goofball family…read more.. Bel Aire Bowl has been around since I was a little girl growing up in Hobbs. Tonight (8/25/2023) we spent about $140 on two lanes, nine players, and borrowing of bowling shoes. The place hasn't changed much. By that I mean it needs a makeover. Lol. Still, it is super fun at night because they keep the lights low with lots of fluorescent & neon colors moving in disco ball-like patterns. The shoes have been replaced in recent years. The women's restroom was mostly clean. A baby changing station was available. It's next door to a fabulous antique shop, Sonic Drive-In, Exxon gas station, & Big Lots. They also offer these dinosaur ramps for younger bowlers. My 3-year-old niece loved that. The staff members are extremely friendly, patient, & helpful. The snack bar is available. Thank you to my brother for loading the kids up on sugar and passing them back off on us tired and haggard parents. Uncles are punks like that. Lol. There's ample parking. They are open until midnight on the weekends. During Halloween, part of the bowling alley becomes haunted maze. Happy strikes & spares!
