They were amazing then and now with a new head for a year all students have left for harassment issues, poor care of children, and confrontation with parents. Most of the guides have left too.

Being used to the eclectic and energetic vibes of city life, we had inhibitions in how she would take to attending such a small and quiet school. Along with her previous classmates and guides, she was used to walking the streets of Brooklyn, taking the ferry to Manhattan, and walking to various public parks. When we arrived to see Guidepost Montessori at Fairfax, we were struck by its quaintness. The children have their own play area in the back of the schoolhouse, surrounded by a picket fence. It is intimate, yet spacious enough for all of the children to enjoy. The school is very clean and organized. The classrooms are set up in typical Montessori fashion, with the added charm of displayed artwork made by the pupils. The faculty takes the time to decorate for the seasons and holidays. The most charming and wonderful aspect of this school is the faculty. From the Head of School, the Administrative Director, to the Lead Guides, Assistant Guides and After School guides, everyone is kind, caring, patient and gentle, and respectful. They immediately treated our family as one of their own. They are the reason our daughter loves going to school each day. She has flourished under their care and guidance and we cannot thank them enough.

Submitted application back in November. School promised to reach out to me in January for a child…read moreassessment. Didn't hear anything from them until March so I reached out to them. The answer was my child application was still incomplete. At that point, their admission process was pointless, and I was no longer interested sending my child there. However, they already withdrew my $75 back in November. Why would they take my money when application was incomplete, and they didn't perform child assessment yet. Long story short, they gave out absurd excuses and the whole process was just a mess. Big waste of time and money. Out of multiple schools I applied to, this school was by far the most disorganized, money-driven school. I highly doubt quality of education from this school. I'm glad my child will be attending other school.

Dept of Social Services has investigated and cited Merritt for multiple violations (please view the report linked below). Our daughter's teacher lifted her by the forearm from a seated position to a standing position, immediately dislocating her elbow and causing her agonizing pain. We had to take her to the ER to have her elbow reset, which is an extremely painful process. I know exactly what happened because there is video surveillance of the incident. You do not have to trust my word - the Department of Social Services investigated, cited Merritt for 3 violations, and detailed the incident themselves. Their findings against Merritt are public info: https://dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/cc2.cgi?rm=Inspection;Inspection=135089;ID=9599;search_keywords_name=Merritt%20academy;#Violations Look at the Dept of Social Service's findings (based on their review of the classroom video surveillance) - my daughter TOOK A BOOK from another child, and for that the teacher said "really girl!", yanked her angrily from a seated position to a standing position (immediately dislocating her elbow) and then LEFT HER TO CRY after she was injured. Thank GOD for cameras or we would never have known what happened that day.

The teachers are so caring and prepare students for Kindergarten and all that Littles need to know! Ms. Destiny, Ms. Synthia, Ms. Vanessa and more were so sweet and caring for our Littles. The school is the perfect size - large enough that there are plenty of teachers and friends, but small enough that all the kids and teachers know each other well. I also really like that the church location is set back from the road and more discreet for safety purposes. My kids have always loved the outdoor spaces as well - even when they were in-between playgrounds. The staff is incredibly loving and positive. They contact us whenever there is any issue, but when they have had to deal with things that could have been frustrating (potty training accidents, unexpected illness) they have never made me feel bad or embarrassed. One other aspect of Rise and Shine that we love is that our boys have had the opportunity to learn from teachers from other countries and some who speak different languages. I love that their teachers contribute to their learning and growth in ways that I haven't even thought of. Highly recommend!

Our son has been with Roshini since he was 6 months old, and we've been so happy that we plan to…read moresend our second child there too. The entire team truly cares for the kids like their own, and our son loves spending time with his teachers and Duminda. Even more importantly, he's excited to go to school every day. What's most impressive is how much he's learned at such a young age. He's already doing addition and subtraction and is using phonics and sight words to read "I Can Read: Biscuit" books at home. A warm, nurturing environment that builds a genuine love of learning, we couldn't ask for more.

Well, they take advantage of that and they don't deliver what they promise. Our son was so happy he did not go anymore and feeling safe again, he told us that he was repeatedly hit over the head, his hair was pulled and yelled at by Duminda, Roshini, the mother in law and Angie, the teacher. After telling us, it confirmed what we suspected. There was lack of transparency; multiple times there was only one 20 years some old girl taking care of 12 children. Roshini was never there and busy opening a different daycare location. Duminda was seen driving around town for personal business, leaving at home only the mother in law to take care of 12 kids, which she was seen always seating because of her age. Very frustrated regarding these people that are pathological liars and physically and verbally abused our son. Our son mentions everyday about being abused; it breaks our heart !

We can't wait for our youngest to start there soon! We love the wonderful community and having the opportunity to be more involved in our children's early childhood education. All of my children love going to school and have so much fun learning through play at PNS! My oldest was definitely prepared for kindergarten (she's thriving) and I have no doubt my younger two will be ready when they graduate, but I will be so sad to leave this wonderful school!

Teachers and staffs are super warm and patient. Communications with teachers are very easy and pleasant. There is daily report to summarize a kid's day in the school from academic activities to special classes, like Spanish, PE, etc. There are also optional classes, such as ballet, martial arts, soccer, etc. It's very convenient for busy parents so they don't need to drive kids around for activities during weekends. Spatial main playground has slides, soccer area, swings, etc. The other small playground has slides, small house, etc, which are perfect for younger kids. Unless the weather is too bad, there is always outside time for kids to play safely and happily. Summer time is even more fun in the Appletree School: many field trips to all those exciting places, Circus Day with a lot of outdoor and indoor games, etc. I would recommend the Appletree School to anyone looking for a great place for their kids!
