Full Disclosure: I have delayed writing this review in order to make sure it was not written from an emotional perspective, but rather a factual perspective.
I have been treated by dermatologist, Dr, Emily Jong for in excess of 10 years and have felt comfortable with her course of treatment. Over the last several years, I have had three Mohs surgeries performed by another doctor, who will remain nameless but was referred by Dr. Jong. The most recent Mohs procedure was the worst, largely because a skin graft was performed WITHOUT prior advisement that such might be the case. Given the fact we have to be advocates for our own health care and treatments, during my recent routine visit with Dr. Jong, I discussed my concerns with her about the Mohs treatment and not being advised that a skin graft might be performed. Further, I had learned of a skin cancer preventative treatment (PDT), so I asked her opinion of the treatment. I was simply looking for information about the treatment and if it was something we should consider given my continuing skin cancer issues. I was asking for her professional opinion. Instead of addressing my inquiry, she reamed me a new one. She was very defensive and after all these years of treating me, she was offended and how dare I question her course of treatment. She became dismissive and abrupt. My husband was in the exam room and Dr. Jong handed him a pamphlet outlining the PDT treatment in an unfriendly, aggressive manner, and left the room. We waited for her return for about 10 minutes and when it became clear she wasn't returning, we left. Two hours later I received a phone call from Jong's office telling me that if I still wanted the PDT treatment, I should contact the office and they'd put the process in motion. WHAT!!!???? REALLY!!!??? Needless to say, I have no desire to go back to a woman who treated me that way! Perhaps a refresher course in bedside manner and how to suppress the "God Complex" might be in order for the good doctor. From a personal perspective, just a little advice...Never anger someone who holds a scalpel! It's too bad, I felt comfortable with her as a physician...until then. read more
