After 3 years of seeing Dr. Cathleen Ehrlich,I am tired of constant delayed appointments and rude and unprofessional front staff at Placer Dermatology. The final straw happened on May 5, where I arrived 10 minutes early for my 10:00 am appointment. I felt hopeful I would FINALLY be seen on time, as there was no one in the waiting room. I was quickly put into a room and told to put on a paper gown. After 45 minutes, I was still waiting and I was freezing and I felt frustrated. I popped my head out of the room asking for help and "Kim", cooly told me I would need to talk to the MA. What!? The doctor arrived 5 minutes later and admitted she had seen 2 patients that had arrived for their appointment late! She said the front staff did not inform her that I was on time, while the others were late. I thought it was extremely unfair that I was inconvenienced when I had arrived to my appointment on time. Why did the front staff not check on me or give me an update after 45 minutes? When I called later and spoke to the Office Manager "James", he defended his staff and said the doctors know their schedule and recommended I should book the first appointment at 7:45 am or 1:00 pm to avoid delays. read more

My son(20) came in to have a mole looked at. Dr. Henke immediately recommended surgery indicating he would probably have a scar afterwards. We decided to get a second opinion and the other two doctors recommended we do not touch it and can use some topical solution. His skin is nicely healed now. We then received a letter indicating that if it is untreated this can result in further complications, even death. What scare tactics. Ridiculous. Thank God we will no longer use this doctor and averted having surgery- we learned from others he has a tendency to do surgery and lots of scars. No thank you. read more

At Placer Dermatology it was very clear to me that you deal with an entire unhappy staff who are not able to give you the professional support and care you ask for. Know that you get to see a PA when call for an appointment. With PA Nick, I experienced a total absence of following up once getting the biopsy done. I called back 3 times -before I had a returned call- to get things done according to the plan: meds and blood work orders.. I had zero feedback regarding my biopsy until I had someone reading the results on the phone. I unfortunately decided that it was not worth for me to go back see Dr Henke although I had an appointment made. I asked for another dermatologist referral from my primary doctor. read more

I needed to see a dermatologist so I made an appointment with Placer Dermatology simply because all other dermatologists in the area were booked out months in advance but this location had plenty of appointments available. The day of my appointment, I decided to come on Yelp to see how the other reviewers thought of the place. Uh oh...not a good sign when there are so many 1-2 star reviews. No wonder they were able to get me an appointment so quickly?! When I walked into the office, it felt like a spa or beauty salon instead of a doctor's office. There were tons of products on the shelves that were being advertised and the message that I got was that this place was a business that was trying to sell skin care products. I did not like the feel of this place. The female employees sitting at the counter were in constant conversations with each other and instead of keeping their voices down low in consideration of the waiting customers, they just talked loudly as if we were all invisible. Even when I was escorted into a waiting room to wait for the nurse practitioner, I could STILL hear these women talking loudly. I guess I just thought a dermatologist's office would be like a regular doctor's office where employee conversations are kept to a minimum and at least on a quieter level. While waiting in the private room, I looked around and was surprised at how many posters were on the walls advertising products to purchase. This place is definitely out to try to make their customers buy their products. The only saving grace about this place is the nurse practitioner I met with. She was AMAZING. The sweetest lady who was so friendly, understanding and knowledgeable. I think her name started with an S (Sanaz?) (Hispanic NP, if I recall correctly). She listened to my concerns and made me feel so understood. At the end of the visit, I asked her if she thought I should get the dermatologist/doctor's opinion, just in case, since I was technically paying for a doctor's visit, right? She totally understood getting that second opinion so she said she would get the doctor for me. Waiting for that took a while. I thought it was interesting that they would charge me $99 for a visit where they had not planned on having the doctor see me. Hmm... As previous reviewers have said, the doctor was a bit brash, rushed and seemed very impatient, as if we were interrupting his very important and packed schedule by taking 3 minutes of his time. At the very least, a doctor should make his patients feel like they're valued customers instead of interruptions. After he left, the NP and I talked a little more and I left thinking of how great she was and wondered why in the world she would continue working at a place like this when she could be working in a more positive and professional environment with so much more growth potential. The day of my appointment my car broke down so I called to reschedule they told me "we canceled your appointment because of insurance ". I am an hour and a half away from there office and they never called me to let me know. In spite of the fact that I have the same insurance I had for my first appointment. I have been calling for two days and they say they will call back, they never did. When I called today I asked to speak to the manager. My wife and I have been going there for several years. We've seen Dr Henke twice in all this time. The other times we have seen the PA. We get comfortable seeing the PA and then the next visist we find out they have left and we have to see the Dr. He's creepy, in a hurry and doesn't act interested in finding out if we have any questions. Nice office but thats it. The final straw came when I received a call to reschedule my bi annual checkup. The reason was, in July they need to make room for cancer patients...hello, the only reason I am going there is because I had melanoma and need to make sure its not spreading or reappearing. Services are decent but expensive. As others have said the billing issues are terrible. I have a high deductible and was told I need to pay in full for services until my deductible is met. I said okay makes sense. Then three months later I get a bill for the "deductible" that was not covered by insurance, even though I paid for the original service in full. I have tried calling to resolve many times, no return phone call. They just keep sending the same bill over and over. Avoid this place otherwise unless you like dealing with billing. read more

This office is a joke. They did unnecessary biopsies on me just for the extra coin in their pockets! Don't even get me started on their billing department. Completely unprofessional and they have no idea what they're doing. Good luck to anyone that has billing issues with these people. They will overcharge you and you have to fight for your life to get ahold of billing. This office needs a whole new staff/team. Get rid of billing lady AND get a new office manager!!! I hate to give this place 1 star because their front desk staff and their PA that treated my daughter were amazing. I'm not sure I've given a bad review on Yelp before. HOWEVER- their billing department/office management is complete crap. My daughter was seen in October and I paid I full for her services. They billed insurance and in November I received a statement looking like I had overpaid since my insurance paid most of it. I called and talked with the front desk and was transferred to the billing dept voicemail. NO response. Called 3 weeks later. Left a message. NO response. Called 3 weeks after that. Left a message. NO response. I called a total of 4 times, very kind in my message just asking for clarification on our account. I had to drive there today to get an answer. Yes they owe me $122. No the person who issues that refund isn't here and does them once a month. They will call me next week. They have MY money, have been paid double since November and maybe I'll get it back in January or maybe even February if I missed this batch of "monthly refunds" (how hard is it to credit a CC or write a check?!) How is this acceptable in the modern day and age? I would pretty much recommend anyone other than them. read more

Buyer beware: the poor reviews are for good reason. For starters - they aren't a preferred Provider In-Network for TRICARE which makes you wonder why not. They are often over-booked and even when you show up on time (or early) for an appointment, you end up waiting 45 minutes or more. The main problem I have is their billing and collecting practices which seem shady at best. Before I continue, think about this: there is absolutely NO certification required for someone to be in charge of your bill. No training or professional background to land at the other side of a phone call going over charges. And like many other posts here, I received some of the most arrogant, unreasonable and unprofessional service in my life. I was asked two years ago to sign a form agreeing to pay $50 for cancelling or rescheduling an appointment within 48 hours. I refused to sign because I have had multiple cancellations (by THEM) often the same day. So why should I be penalized for doing the same thing they do? Not only that, but as stated, they overbook so there's no doctor waiting around in an empty office when you reschedule. Far more disturbing (and the final straw for me today) is that I received a new bill with a $32.90 finance charge for a service date of 10/29/18. TRICARE would have normally covered it, but our insurance changed when my husband retired and now there was a new deductible. The thing is, that wasn't discovered by Placer Dermatology until 3/9/19, the same date as this invoice. AND... because they aren't in-network, we're paying $49.54 for coinsurance. Soooo... because there is a $247.72 balance now due as of 3/9/19, I am being charged an additional NON-AGREED to finance charge of $32.90 ON TOP of this bill. No agreement... nothing I signed to... it's a whimsical charge that they made up because the date of service was at the end of October and even though it took them until 3/9/19 to figure out that TRICARE wasn't covering it, I'm supposed to just pay 13.28% to them with no recourse. I asked the billing manger to send me a copy where I signed agreement to pay a finance fee and she refused. And I'm talking an arrogant flat out refusal. She claims it is clearly stated on the invoice that there is a finance fee for balances due. That is not the same thing as an agreed to amount and there is nowhere that I agreed to this charge. Same thing as if I was charged a convenience fee for getting my invoice on blue paper instead of white. Just because they bill it doesn't mean it's valid. She refused to accept payment on the actual invoiced fees and said that my bill is correct and that I owe the entire amount and if I don't pay it will go to collections. I am going to do everything in my power to formally dispute this charge and if this review can help others avoid a similar experience then it's worth every single consonant and vowel. I'm no dummy either... like many of the other posts here, I worked closely with TRICARE and Health Net on the T2017 Project to migrate TRICARE over from United Healthcare and know that this is unethical and wrong. Think about how many elderly people you see sitting in that office who don't know their rights or how to properly dispute charges? There are plenty of other quality providers in our area. After 7 years with five family members and thousands of dollars paid to this business, we are ending this relationship. Update 3/29/19: I've compared by EOBs to the invoices and guess what? The allowed amount for services is paid at the Practioner rate, not the rate for when a Nurse Practioner or Physician's Assistant performed the treatment, which in my daughter's case was every single time. This is 15% more than what TRICARE pays for NP/PAs and after going through all my families EOBs it appears that every single claim shows it was paid at the incorrect Practioner rate! We've only been treated by Dr. Henke himself maybe two or three times in the past 4 years. It has almost always been a PA/NP. This violates TRICARE's policies and as it turns out Medicare has the same policy. Check your EOBs folks! Some of the other reviews on here report the same exact thing. read more

The staff was friendly. After reading so many bad reviews here I was afraid I was going to be rushed. The appt I have to say was fast. The dr was nice, no small talk. I think they could improve the consultation. I got what I needed which was an obagi cream. I can't complain too much but also, cannot praise a lot. Then the girl that was supposed to show me the products was a little lost. I could tell that the office is a bit unorganized because a patient was complaining about how no one came to follow up with him in the room, he didn't know whether he was dismissed or not. ISSUE: Billing for services NOT rendered......then sending me to collections for it. Here is my letter I wrote them dealing with the issue: Date: July 12, 2021 To: Placer Dermatology Skin Care Center 9285 Sierra College Blvd Roseville, CA 95661 I am in receipt of your 7/21/1 adjusted bill for $279.69. It again seems excessive for a 30 minute initial evaluation and treatment (freezing off some superficial things) by your physician's assistant albeit with 3 punch biopsies. I am glad after more than one year of letters and bills for $1454.25 for surgical procedures, you have ceased this attempt to get me to pay for services NOT rendered. You should have apologized for this "error" in billing a long, long time ago, and this would have been resolved. But instead, you sent me letters with medically related life threatening messages if I did not come in for the procedures that you billed for. You even sent an invoice (with my name and diagnosis) to my employment which were then opened by employees which resulted in a HIPPA violation. I have no record of letters or phone calls from you trying to understand the confusion, only bills to exact payment and scare letters to schedule for the procedures. I have since been to another dermatologist and I have no medical issues and to date the 3 punch biopsy locations are benign and unremarkable. Yet, your office representative told me that I needed to come in after my initial evaluation for 3 "surgeries" and right away...........although she could not schedule me for weeks due to the surgeon's availability (which was outside of the recommended time frame for my diagnosis per her). Furthermore, the appts could not be on the same date which pushed the dates back even further. Not the same date, because of reported "medical precautions of the anesthesia". All the surgeries would be two dermal layers deep and involve two sets of sutures inside and out. Regarding the 1 punch biopsy on my center forehead, I was completely unaware of this lesion despite looking into a mirror every morning; I could not even see this lesion prior to my initial evaluation, so it had to be 1mm or even less. Hmmmm! Your business has caused me considerable grief concerning the services rendered and NOT rendered. Again, you should have apologized for billing "errors" and clearly after this amount of time, multiple people have been involved to catch involuntary errors, so I can only assume this is how you do business with a new patient. I have been waiting for you to correct your bill or send me to collections. You have done the former so, I will agree to either of the two options below concerning my account with you---your choice. Option 1: Adjust your bill again to zero, send me the statement, and I will call it even knowing that you incurred a minor and appropriate cost for how you dealt with me. Option 2: Send me the bill again for $279.69, and I will pay it for your services rendered on 4/28/20. Am I the first one who is having this experience with your business? Someone else will get to be the arbiter. Whether you were right or wrong on these issues or just skirting the line, the break in basic trust has created this situation for me. Doing the ethical thing (accept some responsibility, apologize) and maybe a different approach to your business services might have saved us both a lot of grief. SS 1/25/23 Addendum: On August of 2022, I received my first collection letter for $1390.61. No other contact attempt by them and notably no response to my 1/12/21 letter. The collection company they utilize is postmarked from a company in India. (???). I still have no issues / complication from their "diagnoses" as of this date (1/25/23). I went here to have a Lipoma on my forehead looked at and was told there was nothing they could do for me because my insurance didn't cover the removal procedure. They did however perform biopsies and every and any freckle or blemish they could find. I feel like I got the extreme upsell. not to mention I received a bill from a collection agency 18 months later for a co-pay I'm sure was paid for at the time of service. I have been going every year for quite a few years and I've been kicked down from Dr. Henke to a new Dr. and last time to a PA who treated my head with the freeze like it was a leaf blower! Also, tried to get my son in for a wart removal and got a voicemail that they're cancelling the appointment due to a billing issue. I have no billing issue and have never received a bill or anything from them for payment due. When I called, person said the account says "current with no past due" and she would check it out and call me back. She never did! The waiting room is large and decorated nicely: at least 15-20 chairs. They have many magazines to enjoy reading while you wait - that is important because you most likely will wait at least 45 minutes longer than your appointment time. The chairs filled up fast and stayed full as they called names every 10 - 15 minutes or so. Some people had to stand, waiting for a chair. Once you are shown back to your exam room, be prepared to answer their questions - quickly-, but don't try to ask any - they are in a very big rush and do not adequately answer additional queries you might have. They seem bothered if the patient is hoping that the staff could discuss some skin issues (isn't that the point of the visit?). Writing a prescription is not the best way of helping the patient understand the condition and its treatment. Vivian is the newer PA-C and is "all business." I have to say she and her helper are efficient, but this office has given up quality for quantity. Vivian and her assistant are literally on the fast-track to keep up with the scheduling pace the front office has set for them. I will be going to another dermatologist from now on. Placer Dermatology was a referral from my Primary Care Physician and they were very disappointed to hear about the manner in which this office cares for its patients. If you are referred to this place, you might ask your doctor for an additional option! read more

On Friday I received a very snotty voicemail from the same nurse saying that she sent in my prescription but to have my labs done by my next follow up. Once again, I went to quest and there is nothing there for me. Not sure where they are sending these "labs". Also, it's now Monday and my pharmacy still hasn't contacted me to set up a delivery of my medication, so I'm starting to think they did not send it in. I received a second voicemail today from a different nurse, in a much sweeter tone, apologizing about the labs and the mix up. Not even sure what they want from me anymore. I have a friend who refers patients to this office, I will be telling her my experience. Update 2: it's now Tuesday and I still haven't heard about my prescription so I called my pharmacy, they received the prescription but it has errors. They said they have been trying to contact placer dermatology and no one is calling them back. I had my primary care dr fill it and I am done with this placer dermatology. read more

These are very good dermatologist. I will say that they have a busier than normal schedule. So you should expect some waiting time in the outer office area. They have done an excellent job of removing my melanoma's and taking care of the rest of my skin needs. I give them a high recommendation based on their skill and caring. read more

BEWARE: They don't refund! Worst office ever. No one knows anything. They charged me on the day of my visit and sent a claim to my insurance. My insurance paid them and they need to send a refund to me. But they dont even accept that they got the money. My insurance gave me the check number and told me they have cashed it out clearly. Patient beware. I had one appointment with this office in 2020. Like others have already said, the place looks like a spa with the focus on selling their products. My experience dealing with staff was the same they were unprofessional and not interested in patients. I was finally taken to a room where I waited for some time. I have to say, I wonder why since there was no one else in the waiting area. When the doctor finally came in he seemed nice enough and answered my questions. I felt he answered all my concerns and gave me medication to resolve a skin issue. After my exam the woman at the check out area of course wanted to be paid. Okay, I have a high deductible plan but I knew that I had already put our my full deductible for the year. So I asked what would happen if by the time they billed if the insurance paid them in full would they refund my money. I got a snotty response and left the office thinking I just threw away money I will never see again. As it turned out, they were prompt in their billing and the amount of the bill was applied to my deductible. I ended up having to chase other doctors for refunds. However, later I get an additional bill from them for more $$. The amount was only about $45 but I knew from my explanation of benefits that they actually owed me over $6. Now I will agree that this amount is not worth my time and I figured it would balance out if I had to go back. I continued to receive statements telling me I owed them money. I made several calls and left several messages on the voicemail of the person who does the billing in this office. When I finally received a call back that person stated that she was working from home. Okay, I understand that with the pandemic and all. However, she insisted that I was wrong and owed them money. I refused to pay another cent. I told her that technically they owed me money and she basically discounted everything I said. Not professional at all and the customer service received was the worst I have ever experienced in what I would consider a professional establishment. After all, this is supposed to be a doctors office. I continued to ignore the statements until they eventually stopped arriving. Fast forward to March 2022. I just received another bill for the over $40 balance. I decided it is time to get this fixed so I have printed my EOB and highlighted the section where it shows exactly what the patients responsibility for this claim was. I have written a letter directly to the doctor explaining the treatment his office provides as well as the latest bill where it looks like they tried to bill my insurance again in 2022 for a 2020 visit. The office may not know this but that is illegal and I could push the issue. All I want is for them to fix their damn accounting and leave me the hell alone. There had never be a poor rating on my credit over this or I will fight to the bitter end. It has become the principal of right and wrong at this point. I don't expect the doctor to ever see the note, how much he knows about his office operations is left to be seen. He went to school a long time to become a doctor and I can say that I would never recommend this office to anyone. In fact, I now see a completely different doctor for my skin issues. Continuing at Placer Dermatology was not worth it to me. One last note, I did end up needing a refill on the meds that the doctor prescribed and getting a refill for a damn cream was like pulling teeth. Best to avoid this place. They have the worst customer service. I had an appointment and paid CASH that day. I then get a bill over 2 months later saying I owe them for that appointment. I called and left 2 messages for the "billing department" which I don't even think they have. Today, I call and ask to have someone help me. She says she'll look into it and call me back. She calls me back and tells me that THEY made an error in their computer and I need to come in and PAY THEM $25 more dollars. WHAT?? I told her that the PA went over very detailed in what I was going to pay since I was paying in cash. Showed me there and told me what I was going to pay. She was so rude on the phone and said, well I am going to put that customer refused to pay for service. NO I paid in full. I will not pay for your clerical mistake. This place sucks!!! They have no respect for their patients time. The last 2 times I went they made me wait over an hour. The average wait time is 45 min even for the smallest of procedures. The staff are lazy and unprofessional. I hope the doctor looks at the cameras to show them just standing around chatting about personal stuff, and not making the patients time a priority. I would expect this kind of service at Walmart but not at a Doctors office where good service is critical to people's health. If you are looking for a place to be seen by an actual doctor this is not the place for you. The doctor has delegated most of his duties to the lower skilled staff and may pop his head in just so they can bill you for the doctors time. This way they can maximize the profits at the expense of the patient. Just before I posted this I noticed they were already down to 2 stars. I'm 21 years old came in for Eczema. They caught melanoma on my arm, That's why I gave 2 stars not 1. Its a 3.5 inch scar and the stitch in the middle felt and looked way too tight. They saved my life for sure I'll give them that. Despite this, they rushed my first 3 month check up after waiting 50 minutes and I felt very uncomfortable the whole time because first the doctor knocked quickly and walked in before I could even get my apron on. Same with the assistant who opened the door wide open without knocking while my top half was exposed. SUPER uncomfortable. I will no longer be going here for my 3 month check ups, I thank them for finding my skin cancer but I need patient care not bad customer service.... on a side not PS I have TRICARE so my copay is $30 each visit no matter what. OTHERWISE you'd be paying $100-1000 it varies on how much they try to do to you. read more
