The facilities are old (loved?) and could use an update but again, not the end of the world, albeit noticeable. What was disappointing was the visit with the Doctor. I guess she is an external verbal processor--so there were lots of unnecessary and rather off putting comments that casually flowed off of her tongue. Many of the comments were off putting and frankly just not helpful. I have done so many of these well child visits and have never encountered such treatment.

There have been multiple occasions when one of our children have shown signs of an ear infection late at night, and she responded promptly, saw them to make an accurate diagnosis, and made sure they received the treatment they needed as soon as possible. Whenever my kids feel anxious about an appointment, she is able to calm their fears, make them feel safe, and even turn the visit into a positive experience. I especially appreciate how thoroughly she explains medical concerns in a way that's easy to understand. She takes the time to answer questions and listens to my concerns. Hi new parents! I love our pediatrician, so let this be an ode to her!…read more Dr. Pickering at East Bay Peds is a great choice for your pediatrician needs. And to add: We've seen a few other doctors from East Bay Peds right after our son was born due to the nature of newborn's doc schedules, and everyone has been so nice. They do have 1 or 2 doctors that do circumcisions (lots of info for ya, right there). Back to Dr. Pickering. She's funny, she's real laid back in the most professional kind of way, she's smart and easy to talk to as a parent. She takes time to answer all our questions, and makes sure to ask us questions. She's far from uptight or reserved and we really like that about her. She's fun! We def are first time parents and have 1000000 & 1 questions every time we see her. Half the time she laughs and tells us we're doing a great job and keep doing it and the other time she elaborates to us what really getting at: what should we be feeding our son? Is there anything we can be doing to make sure he develops the best way possible? Yada yada yada. They're pretty on time. We've never had any problem scheduling an appointment. There's a playground next door. It's a few blocks from Elmwood if we need lunch. They have a 24 hour hot-line with a nurse which I'm not gonna lie: we've called probably about 20x this first year: is his head flat, he has a splinter, why is his butt so red, etc... Overall, we're super happy with East Bay Peds. They are organized, professional, but also so warm and inviting. * I'd like to thank the heavens and stars that be that our son is healthy and we haven't had any issues; I can't tell you how they deal with that or emergencies.

First off, we love Dr.Handler. He's amazing and the only reason we're still with EBP. And setting…read moreup appointments and working with the front office is fine. But Dr. Miller is why I decided to write this review. She was on call when our son was born so we met her in the hospital, and now again today (a year later) when we needed to speak to the on call doctor about an injury my son just had. From that first interaction to this one, Dr. Miller has made us feel like insufficient, blundering parents. Today my son accidentally got hold of a clothes hanger and cut the inside of his mouth. I obviously already feel like a terrible parent, and the questions she asked, and the way she asked them, were so condensing and judgmental ("does he often play with hangers?") it pushes me into an even deeper feeling of insufficiency and guilt and is entirely unhelpful in trying to assess if my child needs additional care. When trying to describe what happened, she asked for pictures and I asked a clarifying question and she laughed at me and responded in a way that made me feel so stupid for asking. She was like this the day he was born as well, trying to push us into make a fast decision on a very important topic that we learned later we actually had weeks to decide on. As a parent, this is the last person I want to answer the phone when I'm at my most vulnerable, panicking about a situation, and need advice. I would not advise working with Dr. Miller.

She also seems interested in complimentary approaches and not necessarily just shoving pills down your throat, though she's perfectly willing to prescribe medicine if necessary. It was a complete betrayal on the part of a doctor--for parents who are just trying to help their child, I was stunned. I would highly recommend finding a different doctor if your child is experiencing systemic issues that Dr. Lang may be brushing off. This is a learning opportunity for Dr. Lang and Berkeley Pediatrics to step it up and learn more about treating children with more complex issues. I had changed insurance due to a recent job change, so I was a bit apprehensive going to a different health care professional from my former primary care physician. But thankfully the process was pretty smooth. After having completed the extensive line of questioning posed to me during the initial phone appointment, they gave me a few pages to read and sign when I first arrived and I was good to go in fairly short order. They have a security guard in the front who asks you the standard COVID questions and has you use hand sanitizer, but I was a bit surprised there were not acrylic barriers protecting the receptionists and nurses behind the desk from incoming patients. I called the Sutter number listed for this location from my car to let them know what was happening and they told me they'll let the office know and no problem. Sutter has a 15-min late policy which allows them to cancel your appointment if you're late. I walked in 14 minutes into my appointment time. After checking in and waiting to see the doctor, I was told that Dr.Wallace decided to cancel my appointment. I was shocked! I asked to speak to Dr. Wallace, but I was told she needed to leave early that day and was filling out paperwork. I waited to speak to the clinic manager and complained that my appointment should not be cancelled because a doctor wants to leave early on a Friday afternoon and that I was not technically late. She explained that I was late, because the checking in process took about 2-3 minutes. I had a time sensitive medical reason why I needed to see a PCP and waited weeks for that appointment. I was crying uncontrollably in the lobby and requested again to just speak to the doctor briefly, but she refused and did not care. It is a terrible feeling to deal with a medical problem and feel that no one is willing to help you. I cannot imagine that a doctor who treats any of her patients in this careless way can be an effective or empathetic caretaker. Obviously this clinic is pretty bad also from all the 1-star reviews.
