We have been coming here for years and all of the staff and the doctors are amazing! Their emergency attention on-site, response time and telehealth during the pandemic was fantastic. Dr. Kalar and Dr. Frank's are amazing and they have been wonderful with our family for many years now. I had to write post pandemic to just reiterate how wonderful they are how well-prepared they were for treating our youngest family members. New to the Bay (with kids) and hoping that this would be our Pediatric group. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to go elsewhere. The front office staff was just okay--not extremely helpful for new patients, but that's fine. The facilities are old (loved?) and could use an update but again, not the end of the world, albeit noticeable. What was disappointing was the visit with the Doctor. I guess she is an external verbal processor--so there were lots of unnecessary and rather off putting comments that casually flowed off of her tongue. Many of the comments were off putting and frankly just not helpful. I have done so many of these well child visits and have never encountered such treatment. read more

I am afraid of doctors, so finding a pediatrician for my kids (elementary-school age and newborn) was an exceptionally daunting task. I could not be happier with the care they receive from Berkeley Pediatrics. Every staff member is an extremely competent, huge hearted person that goes above and beyond for their patients. Special shoutout to Dr. AnneMarie Franks, whose gentle humor and wealth of knowledge make her nothing short of a hero in my eyes. Every time one of my kids are sick, they are seen right away and shown a ton of compassion. I'm sure I come off as cold or rude at times due to my fears, and my family still receives nothing but respect and empathy in return. I am extremely grateful to have found them. Dr. Franks & Dr. Kalar at Berkeley Pediatrics cost us about $8000 of savings, 12 extra weeks of parental leave, my ability to breastfeed my second baby, and a lot of sanity because of their repeated refusal to take us seriously about his feeding issue. Our baby had an unidentified issue that took 2 adults around the clock fighting to get every half ounce of milk into him. We had no idea what the issue was-- we just knew that he was in constant pain, refusing to eat, and we were spending all our savings hiring TWO nannies and ignoring our older kid to get enough food into him and keep him from losing weight. We brought him in at 2 months when the issue began, and Dr. Franks immediately wrote me off as an anxious parent who was overfeeding my baby (because the first was a preemie), despite the fact that he was only getting 15-18 oz a day. From there on, she refused to believe that there was any real problem no matter what I said. For the next 2 months across increasingly desperate appointments, both doctors kept suggesting it was my own actions that was causing the issue. When I kept trying to share purely factual information about what would happen when I tried Dr. Franks' suggestions, she somehow took it as a personal attack that I didn't want to listen to her. (I did everything she said, sometimes before she suggested it-- none of it worked, but she acted like I was being uncooperative when I told her how the baby would react.) Over time they started having me convinced that there somehow really WASN'T an issue. I gradually got PPD, stopped talking to anyone about the baby, his weight plateaued, and we used up all my husband's leave in addition to mine, and kept paying for nannies. Eventually my pediatrician friend visited for a weekend and gave me a reality check, "Your baby's eating is very not normal, you NEED to take him in and get him medication." So I booked one last appointment, channeled everything I had read online about medical advocacy and put my foot down and started shouting in the office that they needed to give me a serious specialist referral and a prescription. (A previous GI referral had listed the diagnosis as "fussy baby", putting us at the bottom of the priority list.) Dr. Franks fought me tooth and nail and said literally 6 times that medication was not recommended and the GI would chastise her for putting in a prescription. But she reluctantly put it through. A few days later, on the call with the lovely GI, he immediately gave us a diagnosis just from her notes (really severe reflux NOT caused by our feeding behavior). He said it's a common textbook situation. He instantly gave us a simple prescription that.... instantly worked. A week later, our baby was happy and not crying anymore. Two weeks later, he's eating normal amounts at normal times and growing. I still cannot stop crying because all along it was THAT EASY. One 10-minute phone call, a little medication twice a day, and we have our lives back. ALL it would have taken was for Dr. Franks to have believed us the first time. If she had just not stereotyped me, not been defensive. If she had just WANTED to take the time to explore an unknown problem and gather facts. If she hadn't taken the failure of her first suggestion personally and put the baby's needs above her ego. If she had been moderately curious, moderately respectful, moderately responsible, moderately willing to listen-- or even just moderately INFORMED. I grieve that I could have kept breastfeeding the entire time instead of having to exclusively pump now, and it breaks my heart to have lost that relationship. We spent $8000 on extra nanny support that we could have saved, and about 12 weeks of extra parental leave we could have used later. Most of all, I lost my mental health and 2 critical months of being able to enjoy my new baby and my family. If you look at my profile, I prefer to write positive reviews. If I have a negative experience, I would rather assume that someone just had a bad day. But the more time passes, I find myself getting more angry rather than less at the hell that Berkeley Peds put us through-- I am HAPPY now with the baby and crying and crying to know that THIS is how it could have been like all along. (For reviewing purposes, I put 2 stars because for years Dr. Franks was actually lovely with our first daughter who doesn't have any health issues. She is friendly and present and fantastic with kids, which is where I suspect most of the positive reviews come from. So if you have a healthy child, Berkeley Peds is responsive, friendly, and great at routine maintenance. But we saw a completely different side of her once she was faced with a challenging baby with an unidentified real medical problem. Which is why we are switching because we simply don't feel safe anymore in case another serious issue ever comes up with either child because we don't trust them not to minimize something that could be dangerous.) read more

I've had solid good care for my kids at Berkeley Pedes for many years. I just wish they weren't so chronically late all the time. Maybe appointments need to be scheduled differently, but I'm tired of showing up and waiting 30-40 minutes to be seen. Literally every time. read more

Our son has been coming here since he was a new born so we hold a special place in our heart for Berkeley Pediatrics. But a recent incident involving a miscommunication between the admin and the doctor left us completely frustrated. I don't know how the miscommunication broke down but it was poorly handled all around. Further, they charged $10 for a physician's report and said it'd take 5-10 business days. I found out from another pediatrics office that it's free and they can get it done on the same day. I think we are ready to move on to another ped's office. read more

Dr Franks is trustworthy, smart, has me and my husband laughing often even when sleep deprived and stressed, and she also has a good bedside manner. She checks in on me as mom in a way that I really appreciate. She has been seeing our newborn for a few months now. They answer the phone when you call! This review is not so much about their services, but rather their billing. I went to two appointments at Berkeley Pediatrics back in July 2020 right after my son was born. It just wasn't a good fit, so I decided to switch to UCSF pediatrics instead. Fast forward to January and I get directly billed for the two appointments. I call Berkeley Pediatrics and they tell me my insurance was invalid. Turns out they charged to my new insurance, which went into effect in October 2020, instead of the insurance I provided to them in July. (I had updated my insurance with my new pediatrician, but not Berkeley Pediatrics -they must have pulled the new insurance through MyChart) I'm not so mad that they made a billing mistake, I am angry about how they responded to me trying to solve the issue with them. I didn't add my new insurance to MyCharts until October 2020, this means that they didn't even file with insurance until close to 3 months after my visit, which is right at the end of the 90 day filing time limit. Also, I wasn't made aware that the claim was denied until I got directly billed at the end of January 2021. Finally, when I tried to explain this to the woman in billing, she got very combative and kept interrupting me. Effectively, telling me it was my fault. If Berkeley Pediatrics has filed in a timely manner with the insurance that I had originally provided to them, this would not be an issue. Now I am looking at having to pay close to 1k out of pocket, due to Berkeley Pediatrics negligent and irresponsible billing practices. read more

Seven years ago, Dr Kalar learned from her father that our older daughter, 12 at the time, was making herself throw up. Dr Kalar told her father -let's call him John- to not tell me. Let me repeat. Dr Kalar actually told John to hide from her mother, with whom she lives half the time, not to tell me. Despite her and John, with whom I had a good relationship, knowing and acknowledging I was a good, responsible, loving mother. I truster Dr Kalar and she utterly betrayed that trust which resulted in putting our daughter's life in danger. Because I was away on a work trip, John took her again to her medical check up in the fall, after she had been losing weight and growing taller. I trusted John completely, because in general, he is a very trustworthy person. Since I received an "All good!" report from Dr Kalar and John after the fall checkup, I trusted them, and figured our daughter's losing weight and being so think was well within normal. She was eating normally but not enough and also throwing up. Fast forward a few months later, I am nervous about our daughter. I take her in myself for a checkup because I have a feeling something is wrong, she is too thin. Dr Kalar says our daughter is "grossly underweight" and needs immediate intervention. I am stunned and while addressing our daughter's needs, write out the chronology of what happened. When I learned of what Dr Kalar did, John and I came in to discuss it and neither Dr Kalar nor the practice took any responsibility for not telling me the truth. They knew they screwed up and were too afraid of malpractice lawsuit. I collected the documents but never pursued legal action against the practice. Sometime, I wish I had. Luckily, our daughter is in great form today. But I will never forget the malpractice and betrayal by Dr Kalar and Berkeley Pediatrics. read more

We've been with Berkeley Pediatrics for 7 years. The doctors have all been amazing, which is why we've been staying, especially overseeing our daughter's chronic condition. However the administrative side of the office is why we are leaving. Regarding the administrative side, their follow through is non existent ("we'll call you to schedule" or "we'll have the doctor call you" but it never happens), their processes are inconsistent ("that's only done through MyChart" and for the same thing "you have to call in and request"), nothing is done in a timely manner (even when it's an emergency, "it'll take up to two weeks to get the doctor's signature") and the rude tone is palpable. The admin side used to be great 3ish years ago, but it has disintegrated quickly and left such a stain on what was once an all around great pediatric practice. read more

We are very disappointed with our experience at Berkeley Pediatrics over the course of 5 years specifically regarding our 6 year old. The negligence and mistakes they made were apparent immediately upon switching providers. Our son was recently diagnosed as being completely deaf in his left ear despite passing his hearing screen (as perfect in both ears) at Berkeley Pediatrics and showing behaviors of single-sided deafness for years. I consistently expressed my concerns over his language development regarding conversations and making friends as well as his difficulties with auditory processing. All of these were passed on as being behavioral issues or needing more sleep. They basically convinced me that his hearing was perfect when in fact MRI has now shown his left ear has likely been deaf since he was a baby. In addition to this negligence the reaction I received when informing our former pediatrician was "I don't know what to think about that." No one ever followed up with their concern or expressed that they would investigate what went wrong so that no other child will fall through their cracks like ours did. We scheduled another phone call to try to understand what went wrong and why they failed to diagnose a deaf child that had been with the same pediatrician since he was 18 months only to be met with defensiveness. Finally after almost an hour on the phone she agreed to have a meeting about this situation and review the pure tone hearing screen administrations. Since we are no longer patients at Berkeley Pediatrics I feel like I have an obligation to alert any of you that are patients, or considering joinof our experience. In response to Berkeley Pediatrics, as a primary care office you should have a wealth on knowledge on something so basic as hearing loss, especially the striking signs of single sided deafness. The newborn screen did not catch our son's hearing loss, but he was a patient from the age of 1-5 years old in your practice. My concerns weren't validated on many occasions and at one point I was told to "let the world teach him" when he was displaying tantrums, in office. You are waiting for parents to practically diagnose their own children before you recommend they go out to audiologists, since as you say the pure tone test you do in office cannot always catch hearing loss. read more

My family and I are fairly new to the area and to the practice. Registering and making our first appointment was painless, quick and easy. The gal making our appointment gave us multiple dates and times trying to find something that would accommodate my spouse's and my busy schedule. We have only been to the practice for sick and follow-up appointments so far (Our child's annual is scheduled in March) and each interaction with the nurses and docs have been great. They have same day urgent appointments available either with your primary doctor or an on call provider. The building was easy to find. There is street parking in front of the office. It has two different entrances, one for sick and one for well. We really appreciate that! At our most recent visit, we checked in, we sat down, and not even a minute later we were greeted by our nurse to be placed in a room. Talk about fast service! We've had great interactions with all of the docs and nurses we've encountered. Nurse Practitioner, Amy, is fantastic! She is very thorough, answers all of our questions and we are in and out in less than 30 minutes with a prescription sent to our pharmacy. I will continue to request her if our primary is not available. With all of the great things about this office, there has also been just one downside, specifically with one receptionist I have talked on the phone and checked in with. The receptionist with the glasses is very rude and cuts me off whenever I try to explain what is going on with my child. When I check in with her, she never makes eye contact with me, makes me feel like I am interrupting her conversation with her colleagues, gives me one worded answers, and does not look very happy to be there. She was the exact same way with the next person checking in, so I'm sure it is nothing that I've done. Definitely not what I would except from someone working in a pediatricians office! All in all, amazing place! I would have loved to leave a 5 star review, but one star has been deducted due to the interaction with the receptionist. After 3 children and 21 years at Berkeley Pediatrics I can assure you that if I had to select a pediatrician now, I would never go back to them. Dr Boynton and Dr. Cuthbertson were fantastic but after they left, this place is awful. And it is across the board. I can't even explain how rude, condescending and out of line the woman at the front desk is (Megan?). That's one issue. Phone calls are not returned. After leaving 3 or 4 messages for a doctor, and not receiving any call back, I had to set an online appointment and pay for the visit in order to be able to speak to her. It took me three months to get an appointment for my daughter's physical, and about two weeks before the appointment they called me to say the doctor would not be in that day and I had to re-scheduled. They did not had anything available for another 3 or 4 weeks. I agree with misdiagnosis that other parents write about. The reason is that the doctors they have now, won't listen to the parents. And after being married to a doctor for over 20 years I know how they can be. But the righteous and condescending attitude even exceeds all expectations. They won't listen. They know it all. And they know more about your child than you as a parent. That's the attitude we've experienced since the doctors we knew for so long left the practice. For example my child was diagnosed with Strep throat when it was hand, foot, and mouth disease. Probably the doctor thought it was unlikely a teenager could get hand, foot, and mouth disease but again, the symptoms were shown and explained carefully. She did not listen. So all three of my kids got it because she said that with the antibiotic she gave us, it wouldn't be contagious anymore after 24 hrs. My daughter was having acute pain while playing sports. Even though she had had elbow surgery already, I could not get a referral for physical therapy or specialist. She was asked to come back after doctor's maternity leave if she was still having pain. If you ask for copy of certain records, you'll pretty much have to pass an interrogation of why you need a copy of anything even if the school is asking for it. And on top of that you have to pay for it. For example I was asked to pay $50 to expedite a signature for the school sport participation physical form. All about money and nothing about patients. The school asked for a copy of antibody test and the doctor refused to provide a referral stating she didn't recommend it. It doesn't matter if she doesn't recommend it. It is the school policy. The test doesn't hurt and it is required. Period. Awful experience across the board. read more

Dr Michel is the absolute best. She's been our children's pediatrician for the past 10 years. She has taken such good care of our babies and always makes them feel safe and loved. She is so great at remembering everything and following up with us after appointments. Even after we moved, we still drive to Berkeley for all of our kids doctor appointments. I'll never be able to change pediatricians because I just trust and adore Dr Michel too much. It will be a sad day when my kids grow up and have to get a new doctor. read more

We just moved away from California and are looking for a new pediatrician which reminded me to write this review. We saw Dr. Lang and the team at Berkeley Pediatrics for 4 years and it's probably the thing I'll miss most about the area. Dr. Lang is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. She took the time to listen to and answer any questions we had about my kids' health and development, and often suggested resources that could support their interests and developments. We are huge fans and highly, highly recommend Dr. Lang and her team. I've had friends asked me questions about their kids and when I ask what their pediatrician says they say they don't get the time to really ask questions which surprises me. We got lucky! read more

We have nothing but positive things to say about BPMG. My partner uses a wheelchair and we were initially concerned that the office did not appear to be accessible. The staff have gone out of their way to make sure we are put in rooms that my parter can use. We also have gotten excellent medical care for our children, both of whom were born prematurely. We usually see Dr. Franks or one of the NPs, but everyone I've spoken to (and I call a lot with questions) has been polite, helpful, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Our family loves Dr. Annemary Franks!!! My 13-year-old daughter has been seeing Dr. Franks since she was born. Dr. Franks has been excellent with her every stage of her development. My daughter has been completely at ease with her. We have also had experience with other doctors in the practice who seemed very competent as well when my daughter was ill and Dr. Franks was not on duty. And despite that Dr. Franks was not there when she had an appointment for her illness, Dr. Franks always made a follow up call to check on her. They are also geniuses to have the nurses do the immunizations so as to not negatively impact the doctor patient relationship. I have found that most of the nurses are very good at administering immunizations as my daughter is a complete shot-phobe and can make the biggest scene when it comes to getting shots. read more

Dr. Katrina Michel has been very patient with both my husband and me - and that is saying something as we run our child's doctors appointments a bit like an old Columbo episode. Just as poor Dr. Michel's thinks that she will finally escape, sometimes even after she has left the room, we'll pull out the ol', "Oh, I almost forgot. Just one more thing, Dr. Michel. We moved to the area when I was 7 months pregnant and had to find doctors, hospitals, etc. My OB recommended Berkeley Pediatrics and they carried my insurance. I went in for a pre-visit while I was still pregnant. Dr. Olivia Lang took almost an hour to meet with me and discuss her practice and the BPMG practice, answer my questions and set expectations on leaving the hospital and my baby's first few weeks. I can not tell you how impressed I have been since then... My daughter is 6 weeks old and we actually look forward to her appointments. We always learn something new and Dr. Lang is a great fit for my husband and me. She's practical and relaxed but also very warm. We love the entire practice. read more

Fantasic docs and nurse practitioners. We love Dr Lisa Kalar, she has such a great bedside manner and has a keen intuition and is amazing with my sons asthma diagnosis. I really truly trust her judgement and that's saying a lot! I've brought both my kids here since we moved from SF and have had good experienced with all the docs including Dr Michel, who is also wonderful. I recently switched from Kaiser a month after my son was born and wasn't looking forward to searching for a doctor. My lactation consultant recommended BP to me. We absolutely love Dr Franks. She is very sweet and friendly. She's never judgmental and gives us all the information we need to get us through to the next visit. They have a very helpful website that has saved me a couple of phone calls to the dr. I also like that they have separate entrances and rooms for sick children. The only thing that I really wasn't pleased about was the after hours advice nurse network. I am used to Kaiser where it's almost like talking to your own dr. These advice nurses ask a lot of unnecessary/repetative questions and are just not helpful. One time I called and they asked me "what would you have done if you didn't have us to call?" I said I don't know because I do have you to call. Aside from that the office staff and nurses are very friendly. read more

We've been with BPMG for almost 3 years, since my oldest was born, and we couldn't be happier with the care team. Especially, the one and only, Dr. Franks! She's professional, knowledgeable, funny, and truly caring. As a first time mom I've learned so much from her. I'd come to every visit with a long list of questions and she patiently answered them all, never rushing me, always full of wisdom and sharing from her professional and personal experience. Now with my second child I trust her wholeheartedly. My daughter loves going to the doctor and talks about her all the time. And, when she's at home playing doctor, she plays "Dr. Franks"! I am very impressed by BPMG, and have been taking both my children to see Dr. Ben King here for the past four years. The facility is discreetly high tech. Doctors carry around a computer notebook complete with touch screen and medical management software loaded, with a wireless connection to a main server in the office. Service is quick. Appointments are usually on time, especially if you're there in the morning, as every office can get backlogged. The process there is pretty streamlined to get you in and out as efficiently as possible. Parking can be sparse. But it's free on the other side of the street, and also further up the street towards the university, if you can get a spot. Doctor King has really been a great pediatrician. I've not ever experienced a doctor who will call you back personally when you need to talk to him, give you as full of an explanation as you need, and then ask to be sure that all of your questions are answered. He tends towards real solutions to problems in that he tries not to prescribe too much medication to just relieve whatever ails my kids; rather, he tries to see the whole problem and will without hesitation refer us to specialists if we need. He has three young kids of his own, and is well aware of the trials that a parent endures trying to assure his/her child's health. For my son, he had advocated having his adenoids and tonsils out, due to sleeping/eating/growth/allergy/hearing issues, and he was right. Now a year after the procedure, and my son's health is thriving in most every way. read more

Our son was a patient of Dr. Franks, for 14 years, and she and the other doctors and nurses at BPMG are all that we hoped for. Changes in insurance available have taken us to Kaiser, but we would have happily stayed, and would go back for the rest of the "pediatric" years, in a heart beat. Dr. Franks has always been kind, smart, approachable, thorough, encouraging, reasonably optimistic, supportive and any other good word you can imagine. Just right for the doctor you trust with your kid. In well-child visits and various childhood ailments, she listens, checks everything, follows up with questions, everything you want. We couldn't be happier. She has explained and answered questions for both parents and child, willingly and with Yes, the advice nurse service is not quite as fully featured as Kaiser, but they return calls, answer questions and concerns, they never failed us. The other docs that we saw when Dr. Franks wasn't available were just as good to us, the nurses and technicians are patient and good at their jobs. I recommend Dr. Franks and BPMG without reservation. read more

We absolutely love Dr.Grace and Dr. Woods. I would have given the practice seven stars if they had not dropped the ball when my infant kid was down with an infection. I also had a doctor call and curtly tell me that as a mother I was over reacting and I have to fall in line and follow the process. It took an amazing nurse to understand things from our perspective (Paula we love you!) and help us stay positive as we handled the fearful situation. Off late the front desk has also been very rude and anti social - not helpful especially when you are walking in with a sick kid. I was also almost laughed and yelled at by a front desk person when I called to let them know that I can't make it to an appointment because my kid just threw up and wants to sleep. I thought pediatric offices were more considerate and understanding. Going back to the doctors - top notch! read more

I like the doctors. Good care. I've brought my three kids here for 13 years. Unfortunately, the last 9 times (1 per kid over three years) I've brought one of my kids in for their annual check up, we have waited 30 minutes or more, not including arriving early. In response to the additional exam room- I don't think it will help. We've always been waiting IN exam rooms, so that wouldn't be the bottleneck. read more

We love going to Dr. Nikki Learned. Every visit I feel she takes plenty of time to give me all the information I need for my baby (now 3 months). She listens carefully, picks up on things I might not be aware of, fully answers all my questions, and gives great advice. She is wonderful in the way she handles my son, and very encouraging to me as a first time mom. I'm grateful my son is under such expert and loving care as he grows. I also like that they work hard to make the doctors' schedules available for last minute visits. They try to ensure you see your primary doctor. I've been able to get in for a last minute day-of appointment when needed. The office is efficient and the whole staff are friendly. And I love that there's a separate entrance for sick vs. well patients! The street parking is not too bad. I just arrive a few minutes earlier and haven't really had any problem. read more

Dr. Katrina Michel is our amazing pediatrician. We have been coming in for some sick visits due to the flu season and a new daycare. We are usually seen within 15-20 minutes. Dr. Michel is very thorough,warm, friendly and takes excellent care of my son. Berkeley pediatrics made sure that all my urgent emails with changing symptoms of illness were responded to by Dr. Michel or a nurse when she was not available. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Nicole Learned since our son was born last month. So far, we couldn't be happier with Berkeley Pediatrics and Dr. Learned. We had a few issues with slow weight gain and Dr. Learned was encouraging and helpful as we worked through the problems. The staff has been thorough and friendly, we are always taken on time, and we appreciate the appointment reminders. Across my daughter's 22 months, I have met with 3 doctors and 1 nurse practicioner here. Every one of them have generally been fantastic. On my first visit there in search of my daughter's future pediatric clinic just before she was born, I discovered that Berkeley Pediatrics fulfilled every criteria I had - including the ones I hadn't yet realized SHOULD have. * They have a separate entrance, waiting area, and examination rooms for sick children to reduce the likelihood of newborns and those coming for routine well visits catching a bug. (Though I wish the examination rooms were less cramped and had a brighter interior and kid-friendly decor to cheer up the already miserable sick kids.) * They allow you to store your credit card information so you never have to keep your potentially agitated child waiting as you linger at the clinic and check-out after shots or visits. * They provide an after hours number to speak to a registered nurse who will help determine if your child's symptoms requires a visit to an urgent care clinic, a conversation with the on-call pediatrician, or can wait until the next day. * They have aquariums, toys, and plenty of books. * They use a highly efficient online patient portal that allows you to do various things including email your child's pediatrician, check/schedule appointments, and pull up your child's immunization records, which includes a date, location of the shot, and the name of the person who administered it. * Many of the pediatricians there have attended or been a resident at top medical schools and teaching hospitals. * Their team members have cute scrubs, including a Mickey print one! * Moises is very gentle when he administers shots and is super sensitive to your little one's discomfort. * A pediatrician calls you back the same day if you have medical questions. * They rarely make me wait more than 15mins between the time of arrival and actually meeting a medical professional. when I arrive on time for appointments. .... and more. Berkeley Pediatrics has set the bar pretty high for my daughter's future pediatrician if we do end up moving out of the country for a little while. I sure do hope I find a place that at least somewhat compares. ___________ I have only had one awful experience with someone there. I can't remember her name (but I recognize her face and would avoid her with a ten foot pole) who attempted to catheterize my daughter and failed repeatedly, making an already stressful experience for our then 1 year old significantly worse than it needed to be. When my Mom stopped the process and asked for our (AMAZING) pediatrician Dr. Olivia Lang, Dr. Lang decided to do it herself, which took less than 30 seconds from start to finish. We had to get another urine test by way of catheter on another visit and the MA(?) was just as accurate and quick as Dr. Lang was. My Mom is a sensitive lady who cried that night that the first attempt to catheterize my daughter at the clinic went terribly wrong and STILL talks about that how scarring it was, but in my opinion, it was a very unfortunate but isolated incident and I have had enough positive interactions with other team members that I could still comfortably recommend Berkeley Pediatrics to other parents. read more

While I noted that this office had wrong insurance information on its website on July 12, 2018, which I also discussed with the office then, it took them until Nov 16, 2018 to actually reply to the yelp comment. Yet even then the information was not corrected. When calling the office per their request on Dec 3, 2018, they finally changed the website during the day before calling me back to clarify: NO NEW PATIENTS UNDER CA COVERED! While this is a poor practice in general, it is especially poor in Berkeley, to require patients to have their insurance through their employer and to discriminate against independent contractors. Ironically, physicians are also independent professions, but they seem to be more equal. read more

We love Berkeley Pediatrics! For the last ten years, Dr. Franks has been my daughters' pediatrician, and I couldn't be happier with the level of care. She has expertly advised us through a few tricky medical issues, making appropriate referrals and following up as needed. Also, importantly, Dr. Franks has always treated my girls with genuine interest, kindness, and humor. We have seen several other BP doctors over the years as well and have found them to share many of these same qualities with Dr. Franks. Besides the awesome doctors, we have always been able to get same-day appointments when needed and have never felt rushed out of the office. Very grateful to have found this practice. read more

Brought both my kids here for check ups. Age 10 and 6. Boy and girl. Everyone was very nice and perfessional. Didnt have that Doctor office feel to it. My kids had appointments with Dr. Franks. She was very nice and down to earth. You can tell she is very nuturing towards her patients and their parents. The office is a block away from my kids and a few blocks from our home. Both my daughter and son used to go to Kiwi Pediatrics (you can read my review on them) but had to change office's due to our insurance and I am sooo glad that, that pushed me to we to go to Berkeley Pediatrics. My children both see Dr. Katrina Michel's here and she is a really great pediatrician. She is very patient, kind, funny with the kids, and doesn't overstep her boundaries which a lot of nurses and doctor's would do at Kiwi. The office itself is two floors and there is a person in charge of each station (shots room, front desk etc) so you're not constantly waiting on one person to do everything. The people here are also all very friendly and seem to enjoy what they do. I think my kids will go here until they are no longer able to! read more

I love BPMG! I went here from birth until a few years ago when I noticed that I was by far the oldest person in the waiting room playing with the Legos and Tonka trucks. Then they told me my beloved doctor Boynton had retired, so sadly it was curtains on my stint with BPMG. I called today to get my immunization records, and the staff was just as friendly and professional as I remember. This place makes going to the doctor a delightful experience. And parents: it's situated right smack dab in the middle of the gourmet ghetto so you can load up on fancy chicken at Poulet and eclairs from Virginia Bakery while your kids have their owies tended to.
