I can't say enough good things about this practice. Our kids see Dr. Franks but have also seen a number of the other providers for sick visits, etc. We have always been impressed with the warmth, caring, knowledge base, and dedication of everyone we've interacted with and feel so lucky to have this group in our community! Interacting with the medical system can be hard, scary, and frankly irritating...here we have never felt any of those things. We've always been able to get appointments quickly (even for sick visits, we're mostly able to see their primary doctor). Dr. Franks is super responsive to all concerns--when our newborn daughter needed some tests and I was a nervous mess, Dr. Franks was able to help us get it done in a day and immediately provided the results. I trust her entirely and recommend her and the office to all my East Bay friends and family. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Katrina Michel and her pediatric services! Our newborn son has been seeing her for almost 2 months, and even as young as he is, he enjoys the visits. He likes Dr. Michel's face, and she is very warm and comfortable with the little guy. She makes the physical exams and check-in seem like no big deal, our son doesn't even make a fuss. She is also thorough in answering questions both during the visit and over the online messaging system. She helps put parents and baby at ease. I really love this practice. I moved to Oakland when my son was a few months old after delivering him in San Francisco and in a pediatric practice that was highly regarded. I had a chilly experience at the SF practice but thought that was pretty standard for doctors' practices. Not so at Berkeley Pediatrics, and particularly with Amy Famini. We love the entire group. We see Amy exclusively for our son's care and she is so invested: remembers our son's details without prompting, and is a great balance of conservative (when it comes to medication) and proactive (when it come to tracking down answers). Plus, I am a first-time, nervous mom, where some degree of eye rolling is probably warranted. But it never happens here. In fact, the response when I apologize for all the questions is: always call. Don't worry at all. Great after hours advice line, too. Just a wonderful practice. read more

My baby boy sees Dr. Cuthbertsen and we like him a lot! He is very knowledgable and caring. He can calm my crying baby down like a magic, something I wish I can do myself. My baby always smiles at him in each visit. As a new parent every time I bring in a large list of questions. Dr. Cuthbertsen answers all my question and settles my worries. I also like the after hour nurse line. I have used it many times. Some times it's just a simple question like "My newborn just swallowed 4oz milk, is it too much?". Some times it's more urgent. My three-month-old's eczema flared-up one day. I called the nurse line and the nurse on call was able to get me an appointment with the evening clinic right away. Very helpful! The only thing is that parking is a pain. I really wish they have a parking lot for patients. The new patient registration process is a little wired. Late in my pregnancy, I called and left many messages but never heard back. So I dragged my big belly all the way to their office and asked to register a new patient at the front desk. I got registered right away but I do wish they took phone calls for new patients. read more

Dr. So and Dr. Woods are top notch. I love them. So kind and considerate. BPMG could be improved with a direct to doctor email system like Kaiser has, and by being open longer on Saturday and Sunday. It is a small practice, which is probably why they can't offer the 24/7 service. read more

Docs are great. It always feels like there is no time pressure and they take the time needed to make the kids comfortable. Dr Lang is our doctor and is really easy-going and approachable. The one time our daughter had a hospital stay, she was really supportive. It would be 5 stars if their reception was better. While not the friendliest receptionists ever, they're better than most doctors I've been to. However, they have just instituted a new online booking system for appointments. For a well-check I phoned a few times but it seems they don't answer any more and leave it to the voicemail message telling you to go online. So I register (once for each child), then fill out a form online (again once per child) to get a response back that appointments are full and I should re-email them next week to schedule for the next month that's opening up. It's all a real pain, whereas it used to be easy just to call and schedule an appointment. read more

We were thrilled to find Dr. Grace So after having a negative experience with a Sutter pediatrician. Dr. So was kind, patient, down to earth, and really had a way with our infant son. It was with heavy hearts that we had to leave after only three appointments because of our move to the South Bay. We considered making the drive, but not knowing when a crying fit could strike, decided now wasn't the time. I can only hope the one referral Dr. So gave us who is currently accepting new patients is equally good. read more

Dr. Elaine Davenport at BPMG is amazing. We love her. She is warm, patient, and makes you feel at ease, even if you're a new parent with seemingly "silly" questions and worries. We're about to have our second child, and we'll be bringing him to Dr. Davenport as well. I have been extremely happy with this practice, and Dr. Franks in particular. She has the magic touch with children - relates to them very well - and is also very down to earth and good at communicating with parents. They keep slots open so you can get a quick appointment for a sick kid, and have a good online system for messages, appointments, refills, and so forth. Amy is so good with him and she is always there to answer any questions I have. We recently moved out of the area and I can honestly say that we will miss her so much! My son has been seeing Grace So since he was born, and a few others while she was on maternity leave. Dr. So is very patient and has a strong knowledge domain. Being a first time mom, I have never-ending questions and she was so patient/ thorough in all her answers. I was going to Berkeley Pediatrics since 2014 and I have two kids. On my recent visit for my elder kids annual health checkup, I talked about how the doctor from the same office helped him with his dust allergy. They charged me an office visit on top of annual health check for appreciating them. Terrible. read more

Great practice. While you may have to wait months for a well visit, you can get a same day visit, usually with your child's doctor. Phenomenal patient care. They have a new online system, and respond to phone calls within the same time. There is also a new urgent care line. Excellent, excellent practice. I should add, I wasn't used to this mixed use construction, so the first time we went I want hanging u-turns for almost 20 minutes, to the point I was talking with the receptionist trying to find the place. After that, of course, it's simple to find, and there's usually ample street parking. read more

The staff here is prompt, great with my daughter and dependable. I don't have a lot of experience with pediatricians and almost didn't post this review because I don't want them to get too busy. They treat me with respect and patience. Even if we have to see another doctor, we are pleased with whomever we get. Everyone knows how to handle kids and over reactive parents. read more

We absolutely love this practice! Friendly and accommodating staff. We love that they have after hours accessibility and a separate well and sick child entrance. Our pediatrician, Dr. Lisa Kalar, is absolutely wonderful. She's very thorough and patient, always takes the time to explain things to us, always asks us parents how we are doing, has called us after hours from her cell if there was an urgent follow up needed, very attentive and engages with our kids well. I first went to check out Berkeley Pediatrics when I was about 34 weeks pregnant. I had already met with one other MD (at East Bay Peds) and was kind of lukewarm about her. I was very impressed with Dr. Davenport - and as a pediatric nurse I know that I'm picky! Elaine Davenport has been our daughter's pediatrician since birth and she is wonderful! She is very calm and easygoing which is exactly what this over-protective, detail oriented mom (me) needs. She clearly has a lot of knowledge and experience as well. I love that Berkeley Pediatrics has your own MD call you back when you have questions. I've also had to use the after-hours advice line once and was really happy with that experience. Finally, the two times we've need to be seen same day (once for a fall and once for a fever) we were seen quickly by our own doctor. Can't beat that! read more

My children, now young adults, were patients at Berkeley Ped from birth to kinder age. We trusted our doctors and staff and put great faith that they knew better than I did. As a new mother, I simply did not know better. Looking back at the records, I see that my child received over fifteen vaccinations in the first two years of his life! 1/ Vaccinations--children who are vaccinated have a higher risk of allergies and auto immune issues. BP urged me to have my children vaccinated, including the new chicken pox vaccine. Today, I would reconsider that decision and believe that not ALL the vaccinations were necessary. There is a higher incident of shingles these days since the rise of the chicken pox vaccine. 2/ Soy formula was recommended. I now know that the majority of soy products are genetically modified and, as such, can put babies at risk. My new born daughter responded to soy milk with violent, projectile vomiting. I was told by my BP pediatrician that the vomiting was a "normal" response and to keep feeding her the same soy formula as her body would adapt--the most insensitive medical advice ever! She is now an adult and has been diagnosed with auto immune issues. My son had eczema since birth and subsequent allergies. The doctor at Berkeley Pediatrics recommended soy milk. My son never thrived and is still very underweight. All red flags that Berkeley Ped readily dismissed as "normal". Had my children received better, more informed medical care in their formative years than BP, there is a good chance they would not have the allergies and autoimmune issues they have today. read more

Our children have been patients at Berkeley Peds for over 20 years (esp. important during their college years, as Berkeley Peds has been able to provide continuity of care at an important time of transition in their lives). We see the fabulous Dr. Franks, but our kids have been patients for a long time, so we know that all of the doctors are caring, thoughtful, well-trained --- everything that you could want from a pediatrician. Any glitches that we've ever encountered have been problems with our Medical Care System (but that's another review....), not with Berkeley Peds --- in fact, the staff works diligently to help patients navigate the inhuman problems inherent in dealing with insurance bureaucracy. Since our children's Mom is a Pediatrician (in Infectious Diseases, and Academic as well as Clinical), we always say in our house: Berkeley Pediatrics is where Pediatricians send their kids! read more

There are a lot of good reviews here, so why add one more? Because Amy Famini, NP is the best. That's why. When our daughter was born three weeks early and developed a bright orange case of jaundice, Amy was with us every step of the way to get the jaundice cleared, develop a plan for weight gain, and calm our new-parent jitters. Now that our baby is about to turn one, we can honestly say that we don't consider Amy to be just our daughter's medical provider; we feel like she's there for all three of us. She fawns over our little girl, like a member of the family. She responds quickly when we have questions. She even called me at home once at 8:00 pm because she knew I'd sleep better if I spoke with her. We're excited that our kiddo gets to grow up with Amy on our team! read more

My children have been patients at Berkeley Pediatrics since we moved to the Bay Area in 1997. Wow - I didn't realize until now that it's been 20 years! These doctors do not write "a million prescriptions" and they are not quacks. They are professional, intelligent, hard-working men and women who care about the children, and that's what it's all about. One son is grown now, and the other is almost out of high school. I feel very blessed to have had the doctors at Berkeley Pediatrics, and Doctor Franks in particular, at my side while I raised two happy and healthy children. read more

We've been going here for over a year since our son was born. Our pediatrician is Dr. Katrina Michel, and she is fabulous! She has a daughter only a few months older than our son so she has been through the trenches and gives great advice. She's also really wonderful with our son. She's so great at entertaining him and putting him at ease that he doesn't seem to mind his checkups. She's also very responsive by phone or email. Dr. Michel is also really great with us. Being first time parents, my husband and I can sometimes be a little nuts, but she is always kind and patient with us, too. read more

As it turned out, Berkeley Pediatrics' own business staff worked hard and well to fix the cascading billing problems that were apparently spawned upstream by the Alta Bates medical group. I'm very grateful for BP's help, but still dismayed that Alta Bates, speaking through a pediatric practice, would send such incorrect and intimidating bills to a teenager. Seems to me Alta Bates would want to encourage teens to get preventative care, rather than scaring them away. read more

Both of my children go to Berkeley Pediatrics and I can't imagine a better pediatric office. The staff are always friendly, clinicians are always professional and appointments are always on time. Even when the kids are sick I can almost always get them an appointment same-day. Dr. Kalar is our pediatrician (she is great!) but all the other doctors my kids have seen have also been fantastic. The office/billing staff have also been easy to work with - we've switched insurance a few times over the years and never had trouble. Highly recommended! read more

We are relatively new to the practice, but so far we have had nothing but a positive experience. The facilities are warm and welcoming (they even separate the sick and the well children, something I hadn't seen done before but certainly appreciate!), the staff nice and helpful, and the care great.
