I brought a bridesmaid dress to a seamstress to be hemmed. When I arrived, she was literally eating at her sewing machine. She pinned the hem and said it would be ready by the weekend. It was $50! The week of the wedding, I had everything ready--shoes, jewelry, purse, and dress--when I noticed a stain near the hem in the back. I was horrified. With very little time before the event, I rushed to the cleaners, praying they could get it out. Thankfully, they did, and the wedding went beautifully. When I returned the following week, she denied eating at her sewing machine and accused me of causing the stain--even though the dress had been wrapped in plastic in my possession. I dropped off a dress on 1/23/26 to get the bow stitched back on. Was so posted to pick it up on 1/26/26 today is 2/23/26. I have been trying for a month to pick this dress up and every time the shop is empty. No one is there sometimes the lights are on, I call no answer left messages no phone call back it doesn't matter if it's morning, middle of the day or evening. It has been a nightmare and I had to get a different dress for the event as I was unable to pick it up in time. Mind you we have been coming here for over 35 years as my mom had her wedding dress done here and I have been using this alterations my whole life. Never again! I don't know when Emie stops working because she told me to come back on Monday of Memorial Day to get my jeans. My zipper broke and other places quoted me much higher. The worst quality and customer service I have ever experienced. Brought (2) $100 dress shirts to have the sleeves shortened and Emie tailored them incorrectly. The sleeves stop at my forearm. I called her upon finding the issue and then came to see her. I calmly explained the issue and she yelled at me and proceeded to accuse me of lying that this was not her work. She took my name and number and I've not heard back. Please DO NOT use her. Poor quality. Even worse customer service and communication. Emie's Alterations is located in a strip mall with ample amounts of parking. We arrived to the shop before opening to ensure that we were there as soon as they opened. We ended up waiting a little extra as the door to the shop opened a tad later than their listed opening time. We were greeted and helped immediately upon entering. We were there to request for a simple dress hem to take up the length. The dress was plain and did not have any embellishments or anything, so it was not a complicated request. It only took a few quick minutes for her to pin and make her markings and we were on our way. We requested for a same day alteration. Luckily, she was able to fit in our request with a drop off of approximately 9:30 and pick up of 5:00. She did have a few other rush orders, as well. So, just happy she was able to complete our request before closing. The cost was $25 for this job. We showed up by 5:00 and the dress was already ready to go. We have also had pants altered at Emie's and they always came out perfectly. Fast service. Reasonable price. And, great work. We recommend them for your alteration needs. read more

Took one of my favorite pair of pants to a bunch of different places before finding Emies. The other places had told me the pockets were beyond repair and there was nothing that could be done to fix them. I almost lost hope but these pants have been with me for so long that I really wanted to get them fixed. I was super impressed with Emies alterations. I had a beautiful hand knitted sweater but the neck opening was too small for my grandsons head. I found some yarn that matched as closely as possible and with knitting needles, she was able to make an opening on the shoulder and pick up the stitches and knit two little bands to hold it all in place. She put on 2 matching buttons for the opening. Only $15.00. Amazing. read more

So I ordered some new scrubs and wanted to get them hemmed. I looked around on Yelp, and sent out some quite requests, but some of the prices were absurdly expensive. A day later, I received a response from Emie's, and I was so glad I did! This little shop is my new go-to for gems and alterations. The ladies are so friendly - like a bunch of Vietnamese aunties who are excited you came over to visit. They were quick, efficient, friendly, and do good work. More than that, they are really reasonably priced. I was really happy with the hem-line and quality of the stitching on my scrub pants! They also completed the job in only 2 days. I noticed that they had tons of items to alter, but they're so fast that they easily were able to take care of mine. TLDR; my bridesmaid dress was not ready to be picked up on the agreed upon time. Before coming in, I called and asked if dropping off a bridesmaid dress to be hemmed on a Saturday morning and picking it up on the next Thursday before closing would be a problem, and according to the woman on the phone it wasn't. I came in with the boyfriend and the woman said "you pick up on Saturday?" And I quickly told her no. I need it this Thursday. I also told her it wouldn't be much of a problem to find somewhere else if she was busy and she told me no Thursday good! Yet on the slip she had not written a time and both my boyfriend and I looked at each other. I decided not to worry about it and on my way over called to make sure that I could still pick up my dress without a ticket. The lady could not find my dress and when she finally did... She told me that I could pick it up on Friday. I told her that she told me Thursday and there's no way I could pick it up the next day because I was leaving San Diego that night and that's why I told her I needed it ready to be picked up Thursday. I walked in with no appointment, and was seen immediately - there were a few other people there picking stuff up, and more people came in during my fitting - so they are kind of popular it seems. The fitting was quick, but accurate - when I came back the next day to pick up the suit - the jacket had to be taken in, sleeves hemmed and the pants needed hemming - she had me try it on there to be sure it fit right before I paid which was appreciated. The whole thing was $37 - she didn't bat an eye when I asked if she could have it ready in 24 hours. I am definitely going back. My mom has gone to Emie's basically since the dawn of time, and I still drive the 20 minutes to go see her when I need my pants altered (which is quite often since I, like Jackie, was not born with the ability to grow to any height deemed acceptable by the People of Pant-Making...). I just took in some pants on Tuesday and am picking them up today (Friday): $18 to hem three pairs. The place by my house wanted $18 for *one* pair! Emie will do an impeccable job, and it's 1/3 the price. Also, when you go in, she'll have you in and out very quickly. I try on the pants and stand on the box, and she has the hem pinned in 10 seconds and is telling me to go back for the next pair. She listens when you say you'll be wearing heels with the pants, unlike a lot of seamstresses who often make the pants too short for heels. (What, you *want* me to look even shorter?) Overall, great quality, great price. You can't beat it. Oh-- and she can use the original hem on jeans, but her hems look great, too. She matches the thread perfectly. read more

I have gone to Emie's for many years now. She can do anything and is so quick! I have had many things hemmed or altered and she does an impecable job. The expensive trick stitch that they offer at Nordstrom's when purchasing jeans is waaaaay over priced and Emie can do the same exact trick stitch hem. Which is basically cutting off the hem and sewing it back on at the new altered length so that you can't tell your jeans have been hemmed. Usually happens if your denim is a unique wash or has any deatails, and you would lose that if you just did a regular hem. She has also done an amazing job for all of our boy's baseball pants to have them more tailored at the bottom like the big leaguers. She has also fixed football jersey's. I was recommended to try out this place by a former roommate. I am a tiny person, so everything needs to be shortened or taken in- especially dress clothes! The best thing here are the prices. They do a terrific job with alterations, but the prices are definitely what keeps me coming back. $6 to hem, and only a little more if you are shortening jeans and want to keep the original hem. I always do this with jeans so I can keep the original seaming and fading pattern on the original hem. I've had dresses taken in here and took in my wedding qipao to get altered here as well (had the sleeves taken off). They have consistently done a terrific job, everything is always done when they say it will be, and yes- they do ask you to try things on when you return for them as well to ensure that they got a good fit. The only things I don't like so much about this place is that it's not exactly "service-driven," if you get my drift. They're quick and efficient, and sometimes that goes over as brusque and unfriendly. But the prices are right and they do a great job! Oh- and cash only. read more
