I did an intensive research process to discover this daycare -- visited 5 in this area and called every single one in Chapel Hill region. This was hands down the best one. Community: The daycare is a co-op model, which means that parents are asked to volunteer to help with small projects and that the profits they earn go back to help fund the education of their caretakers. I think this really makes a difference for feeling like you are paying and investing in a community, rather than a corporation. Lower ratios: most daycares go with what the state mandates - 1:5 for babies, 1:6 for 1-2 year olds, and 1:10 for 2-3 year olds. Coming from another state; this is just abysmal. They start at 1:3 and then do 1:6 for 2-3 year olds. Anyone who has been in a daycare room when all the kids are there knows that this should really be the max. Price: it's a bit more costly than other daycares in the area, but it's worth it in my opinion. They do accept vouchers so you can look into that if you need. Location: maybe from a lot of people, but southern village is a great place. The kids can go on field trips to the huge park or this weaver street. Outdoor play: They do a lot of it and are very diligent about bug spray and sunscreen. They have a wonderful play yard with plenty of room, shade, and toys. They do water play in the summer twice a week. Potty training: they are very supportive with potty training and will sit your child on the potty every 30 minutes if that's what's needed. Drop off/pick up: not sure the earliest time you can drop off - maybe 7 or 730? Latest pick up is 530. Discipline/style: they are warm and gentle, but also good at enforcing boundaries. I've seen them engaging in more gentle methods like making positive suggestions for alternatives rather than just saying no. The structured scheduled helps kids know that putting away toys, sitting down at meals, washing hands, and going potty every hour are non negotiables.

Our center in D.C. had frequent staff turn-over and it has been such a gift to watch our daughter grow and thrive with a consistent, experienced early childhood professional. This teacher magically potty-trained our daughter in the first two months at school and supported her social, emotional, and cognitive growth each day. We were lucky enough to loop with her from the 2 year-old to the 3 year-old room, making for another smooth transition this year. Everyone at the center is warm and welcoming and I am always blown away by the fact that every adult in the building knows my daughter by name and looks out for her well-being. I am a huge fan of the play-based learning that takes place at CHDCC and love how her teacher differentiates instruction to cater to both the abilities and the interests of each child. I would highly recommend CHDCC to other parents and plan to enroll our second child in the infant room this year.

Unfortunately, some of the classroom teachers lacked the necessary skills to effectively teach the children. My son was greatly anxious when he first enrolled, but his 4-year-old classroom teacher didn't pay attention to his feelings and instead tried to control him, causing him to rebel against her ways. She labeled him as a "problem child" and every day when we picked him up, she would tell us in front of him how problematic his behavior was, which deeply hurt him. She never paid any attention to the good things he did or the efforts he made. After two weeks of suffering, we decided to withdraw our son from the Cresset preschool as we realized it was a bad influence on his development. We were lucky to find a preschool in Durham where our son felt loved and understood. At that school, the teachers were empathetic and provided him with the appropriate amount of care and attention. He now loves his new preschool, and it is in this loving environment that he is growing the most. Enrolling our son in the Cresset preschool was the worst choice but withdrawing him turned out to be the best decision we could have made.

To make a very long story short, the owners, without warning to parents or teachers, closed the school with a two week notice in January of 2019. They never paid any of the parents back their deposits, which they require for each student that enrolls unless you pay in full for the entire year. They never paid any of the parents back that had paid in full for the school year (through May). Mostly though, they crushed many people and good hearts in the process. They broke the contracts they had with each family and have never paid them back the money they are owed. Please, don't let this happen to your family! With the best intentions, I warn you about these people. Please, look out for yourselves.

This review is a direct result of the behavior in lack of providing information and appropriate…read morecare of my child. I find the increasing prevalence of neglect, dismissive and passive aggressive emotional outtakes are inappropriate and unprofessional. The behavior seems to be initiated by the inconsistent level of care that is being provided as it pertains to inappropriate diapering and lack of re-clothing of my child in an environment prone to constant germ hazards and cool air during the winter months. The level of the neglect has caused a frequent diaper rash and constant viral infections that have resulted in emergency room visits with my child. Upon trying to initiate results driven communications with her providers and the director I have been unable to receive the information that I have requested that would determine the validity of the claims of inappropriate cleanliness and diapering neglect. The facility and claimed higher authorities have been unable to materialize any documentation or video footage upon my request, and in fact neglected to complete an investigation but instead decided to "disenroll" my child as a result of the hearsay and contradictory lies from the campus director. Her classroom teachers were unskilled and emotionally reactive,one in which quit after being questioned about diapering issues. I received an email from an Amy Boyette, a person whom I have never met, alerting me that the cause of my child dismissal is due to hostile behavior and a myriad of other claims of inappropriate behavior in which are completely false,slandering the character of myself and my child's father simply because we are concerned parents. It is also evident that this email was not situational or applicable to the events in question pertaining to my daughter, but instead copied from a previous email that was sent to a different parent claiming events that did not happen with my family. When calling to speak with Ms. Boyette about these discrepancies she had stated that she has no knowledge of my case or issues I was experiencing within the daycare and that no child should have to experience this but still chose to exspell my daughter without investigation of my claims. Ms Boyette also verified that she is the director of another offsite facility who had be contacted to assist in acquiring the video surveillance contradicting that she had no knowledge of the claims in which I am asserting. This place seems to be more about cover-up instead of the true welfare of all children. BEWARE!!!!!

We had a fantastic experience with my son from 2015-2017, but had multiple health, dietary, hygiene, and communication issues with my daughter since the new age 2+ building opened in summer 2017. With the move, there were a number of unannounced changes (e.g., child:teacher ratio increases, less outdoor time, centralized lesson planning). The culture and new rules also seemed more focused on image and profit than on what's best for kids, teachers, and families. Efforts to form a parent advisory group were rebuffed, and there seems to be ongoing tension between the teachers and administrators. Some teachers are excellent, but there are big differences in the experience and practices of the teaching teams from room to room. I'd say it's now comparable to other large chains in the area.

There is no communication , they do not take accountability and they believe that you do not "need help" in your classroom. The recently hired assistant director came in micromanaging everyone and everything. Being a hard/faithful worker does not matter to them. After working by myself for over almost two months and being the one to do mostly everything in the classroom. I was wrongful let go AFTER I resigned putting in my two weeks notice. Children deserve a safe environment where their parents can leave them. I will miss my little ones so much but I'm glad that I no longer have to be apart of such a toxic environment!
