I attended Emerson Waldorf School for 10 years. To say I loved my time there is an understatement…read more I went from crying everyday at my charter school in first grade to thriving academically, socially, and artistically. At Emerson, students are not only seen as learners, but also as whole people who have thoughts, ambitions, and capacities beyond memorizing formulas. In elementary school I learned through stories and to this day I am able to remember the content of the lessons- the math activities that helped me learn all my times tables forwards and backwards, the stories I wrote in cursive, the doll I knit in second grade. In middle school, I wasn't taking tests to measure my knowledge, but instead I was writing stories and drawing depictions based on the lessons of Ancient Egypt, Geography, History, etc. Thanks to Emerson I can write college level essays (I got A's on all of my first semester college papers), I play the cello, I sell crocheted hats and knitted socks, I love sports thanks to my years on the volleyball team, I honestly love math, and I have still kept the friendships from my years at Emerson. I think that is what I love most. The students are so kind and everyone is able to be their truest self without shame. There are no expectations to conform to what society (or social media) thinks is popular at the time. Every child deserves to attend Emerson Waldorf School.

Waldorf education has been amazing for our 2 girls (who are now 12 and 15)…read more They started as babies and are now in Junior High and High School. We were so lucky to have found Emerson which is one of the few Waldorf schools in the country which goes through high school. They attended a Montessori school for one year when we were living in an area that had no Waldorf school nearby. It was a disaster! The following year we moved to a location which had an accredited Waldorf school and the girls quickly got back into the swing of it. Learning languages (currently German and Spanish) in early elementary grades, learning to play an instrument (recorder, violin and later cello and others) also in elementary grades, being outdoors for extended periods each day, and interacting with teachers and students who are immersed in the philosophy of Waldorf has brings the students to a point of creativity and academics which are different from traditional learning in a most positive way. We have moved again, this time permanently, to this location which offers the upper grades and are so happy that we found Emerson!

The caliber and character of Trinity School's graduates drew me to learn more about this incredible…read morecommunity. I was entrenched in the college admissions mania with a 9 year career with the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Foundation. I had the privilege of being an Advisor to three Scholarship recipients who were Trinity graduates. These young leaders were poised and successful. They had a strong sense character that demonstrated maturity and integrity in the way they interacted with others. They realized the value of reflection and had the ability to articulate their opinions in a respectful way - open to hearing and learning from others' perspectives. They had a strong sense of self and purpose about how they were spending their time. These things marked a different type of college applicant and mature young adult. Simply put, these values and motivations of these Trinity graduates reflected the young women my husband and I aspire to launch into the "real world" someday. We were impressed by current Trinity students too as it was clear they had a deep desire to explore, better understand, develop, and most importantly share their gifts with the world. But likely what we fell in love with the most was the mission-driven authenticity and warmth. There's something about knowing that the place where your children will spend so much of their childhood and young adulthood aligns with your core values as a family. It's a gift for our children and our family - and one for which I'm forever grateful. *In full transparency, I currently work at Trinity School so I won't claim to be unbiased. The impression that Trinity School made on me as a prospective parent drew me to my current role at the school. I could write another full review for what an amazing place this is to work as well!

They nurtured all aspects of our children's development including social-emotional development while also, preparing our children for the most competitive colleges. Importantly, the school was a safe space for our children to explore, play and learn and we, as a family, gained a fantastic community of values-driven families. We couldn't be happier with our 25+ years of children at CFS.

When I started at CFS, I loved math and literature, and learning in general. However, by the end of the three years I spent there, I hated almost every subject. I'm usually able to at least seem smart, But they didn't help me in any way succeed academically. They would call my parents in for pointless meetings, pressured them into paying the school more money for a tutor that basically taught me the same stuff I was taught in classes, made my messy tendencies worse, and just generally made me feel stupid.
