Absolutely the best office! I have to come pretty regularly because I have weak teeth, so I've gone…read morelots of places in SD. LOVE this office. I go to Dr. Gee for the big scary stuff and Dr. Scott for the cleanings. They are awesome. And the front desk people are always so incredible and nice. I randomly called to get a cleanup, and Dr. Scott was booked for the next 6 months (as he should be!). He's great. And they still found a cancellation for me the next day. Even when I moved out of state, when I came back home, I'd schedule an appointment with them. Been coming to them for ~7 years. Thanks, doctors, staff, and front desk crew!

I never write reviews, but this experience was so ridiculous that I feel obligated to warn people…read more I went to PB Smiles for a cleaning and somehow left with a 7-visit, $2,000+ out-of-pocket treatment plan (over $8,000 without insurance). This included a crown, inlay, several fillings, and an entire-mouth laser treatment because I supposedly had developed gum disease in the year since I had last seen them. The hygienist and dentist were both incredibly rude and insensitive, and they made me feel ashamed and embarrassed about my teeth rather than actually helping me. I told a friend about the experience afterward, and they said it sounded like I had been treated as if I were an addict about to lose all of my teeth, which is basically how I felt leaving that place. I've struggled with cavities since I was young, but no dental office has ever treated me like this before. The communication between the staff and the general level of care and attention were completely missing. I told the woman who took my X-rays that I had sensitivity when flossing a particular tooth. When the hygienist came in to measure my gums, she said she heard I was experiencing bleeding on one of my teeth. I corrected her and explained that, no, it was just sensitivity when flossing and biting. Then, when the dentist came in, he said, "Okay, so you're experiencing no issues or sensitivities, correct?" I told him again that I had already told both women that I had a tooth that was sensitive when I flossed. He said that was because I had gum disease and needed the laser treatment. I explained that the sensitivity was on the top of the tooth, and he then said that was why I needed the crown. The funniest part is that after spending nearly two hours there, I still didn't even get the cleaning I came in for. Thankfully, I got a second opinion from a dentist who was recommended to me. Turns out I only needed two fillings, and my gums are completely fine. He found no need for the laser treatment, crown, inlay, or the whole $2,000 treatment plan. He also told me that he has seen other patients who came to him with similar experiences after being seen at PB Smiles and other "Smiles" locations. When I called PB Smiles to cancel and told the front desk that I had gotten a second opinion and believed they were trying to scam me, the woman I spoke to immediately became defensive and said that different dentists can recommend different treatments. Different treatment plans I understand, but how does PB Smiles measure every single area of my gums 3+ mm deeper than the other dentist? At that point, the difference feels a lot less like "different treatment philosophies" and a lot more like a very expensive (and terribly executed) sales pitch. Get a second opinion before agreeing to anything here. I'm extremely glad I did.

This is so overdue. But you know how it goes…read more The mad ones your write asap. The glad ones...well you are often just happy and then forget to post how happy. Also. Dr Cowman doesn't ask, solicit or hint about doing a review. He is supremely old school in that respect and I love that. Fantastic dentist. (He recently moved, so check out the new address before you make the appointment). Gentle, funny, up on the latest procedures and great with crowns. Matching crowns to existing teeth, or other crowns, is basically an art form. Doesn't push you to get a bunch of new anything, unless he's sure you actually need it. And this is something I am starting to totally respect and stand in awe of, given the current state of most medical practices. Shout out also to Karin at the front desk. So smart. On top of everything. All the time. Huge fan.

I just realized I've never written a review for Dr Cowman. I've been going to him for 15 years now…read moreand have referred so many people to him because he is the best dentist you will ever find!! He is honest and transparent, which is so hard to find these days. I had so many friends throughout the years hate going to their own dentist so they never go...so I sent them to Cowman and after the 1st visit, they were like omg I loved going to the dentist. Other dentists were telling my fiance that he needed a $300 deep cleaning and a root canal...he has been going to Cowman now for 6 years and Cowman on the first visit said "absolutely not, u do not need those things...your teeth are perfect". Cowman is personable, very funny and the vibes are always super high in the office. His receptionist, Karen, is the backbone to his practice as she knows every patient as well and is just "real". Everyone is super nice and always so honest and caring with empathy. They somehow remember everything about me every time so they ask about my life. He is also probably the only dentist in the country that declines me from treatments I want...I've asked for teeth whitening for over a year and he says "no, u have perfect teeth, u don't need it". Haha I've asked Karen at the front desk the same thing and she tells me no too. He does offer teeth whitening, but he truly cares about his patients and what is best for them so he treats you like his own family member. Can't recommend him enough. You will not be disappointed. Most honest people you will ever work with! Thank you for everything all the years, Dr!!
