I totally recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place for coffee and dessert. You walk in and feel like you have been transported to a restaurant in France. Beautiful French music flowing in the room, and the place is so lovely decorated. We ordered the lime cake cheesecake (chefs choice) and the lava chocolate cake. OMG they were both divine. I am not a sweet lover by nature but man taking one bite and you felt like you died and went to heaven. Everything was superb. It was also well presented. We had cappuccinos to pear that had just amount right of coffee. I am definitely going back to my husband for a romantic date night in the near future! All in all, highly recommend

I love that this restaurant has personality because it's actually in a old house with four different dining rooms which were literally rooms in the house. The supper crowd was mainly older Anglophone folks from the West Island. Personally every man in there had grey hair... I'm pretty sure the women did too but they tend to hide greys better :) Upon being seated, the waiteress brought a special occasion drink for us to celebrate our anniversary. I had the Mimosa with a flower in it. I noticed that they brought complimentary drinks to others as well so perhaps it's just something they do regardless of the occasion you put when making a reservation. Anyway that was a super special touch that I appreciated! For the amuse-bouche, we had these crackers with what I think was whipped foie gras. Very interesting taste with lots of texture. For the appetizers, we had the mackerel and the walnut crusted cheese. Mackerel is a challenging fish to master but I thought that they did a great job; I would have liked a little bit more of the cream sauce because the portion was large but otherwise very good. The walnut crusted goat cheese was also delicious though I'm not a big fan of goat cheese. For the mains, my fiancé wanted them to surprise him with the choice of between the fish of the day and the fish that was on their menu, the Dover sole. They picked the latter. After preparing the fish they brought the whole fish on a plate to show us and then they whisked it away to debone it and brought back just the filets. My main dish was the most exciting ever! They brought me the filet mignon steak to show me and then went over to the flambé station. They doused my steak in flambéd peppercorn sauce. Oh boy, I enjoyed the sauce so much I begged like Oliver Twist "Please, sir, can I have some more?" Luckily they didn't chase me down or beat me up like in the movie!! Instead, they brought me a gravy boat with more sauce!! :) Although they wouldn't tell me the ingredients in the sauce because it was their secret sauce. The dessert was a lovely bruléed maple ice cream. And I especially loved the final touch which was juicy, candied cherries coated in dark chocolate. Overall a very lovely and classy French dining experience without having to put on airs because you feel right at home in the Surcouf house!! :)

Every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and felt true to the season. We started with the artichoke salad with coppa and stracciatella fresh, creamy, and well balanced. The mi-cooked trout with beurre blanc and chanterelles was rich yet delicate, while the ratatouille tart added a rustic, comforting touch. The gnocchi with foie gras was indulgent in the best way, and the turkey and sausage dish was hearty and satisfying. Dessert was a highlight: the raspberry tart was light, beautifully crafted, and the perfect way to end the meal. The overall experience felt special generous portions, incredible seasonal flavours, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. It's clear how much thought goes into this menu, and it really shines through in every bite. Highly recommend experiencing this before you die.

One must simply be ready the moment online reservations open in early December. I treated myself and my husband in early April in the thick of maple sugaring season. The drive from Montreal is a good hour, so we opted to stay in Laval. Much better might have been to rent an Airbnb in Mirabel. Next time. Because there simply must be a next time. For one fixed price (about $95 CAN), you are treated to course after course after course of the most delicious food crafted in the Québécois countryside. Everything has maple. Everything is the best thing you've ever tasted. I just wanted to slow down time and make this night last forever. Because it was just two of us, we lucked out and got seats at the bar instead of sharing a big communal table. Our two barkeeps were excellent- so friendly, plus knowledgeable and enthusiastic about every dish they served us. I had read that seasoned diners know to bring their own plastic containers for leftovers, so I too tucked a few into my bag. Do the same. Especially by the time you reach the flight of desserts at the meals end, one simply cannot consume that much food in one sitting. I will be dreaming of this epic meal for years to come. Or maybe just a year. Living only a three hour drive away, how can I not return next spring? Apparently, the menu changes every year. This place could shutter its doors someday and then it truly will exist only in my dreams. Until then, I simply must return. It exceeded my expectations, and then some. Divine. Rustic. Elevated. Joyful. Boisterous. Refined. Exquisite. Extraordinary.

In pre-covid days we would often host brunch parties here. For this latest party, we had a private room on the top floor on the left of the house/ restaurant that easily seated 8 and it was wonderful. In some places you might worry about being "away" from the main action in regards to being forgotten but definitely not in this case. The attention from our waitress and servers was top-notch and they were always there when we needed them. The food was as hot and tasty (and filling!) as always. This time around I went with the Grilled chicken sandwich as I wanted to try something different from my usual :) It was good but I must admit to preferring the Reuben's :)

You will find Suzanne and her husband who run and own the place. They have been around for over 27 years serving you nothing but delicious meats and cheeses. We decided to go as a group of 3 at 7:30 pm on a Friday, it wasn't to busy but since Suzanne is the only one who works there it does take some time. We started off with a bottle of wine which was great and than learned a bit about the menu. I decided to go with the cheese fondue with the beef which came with a salad and chocolate fondue at the end. With our cheese we decided to get some grison to dip with the cheese and it was fantastic never thought about doing it like that before but adding it to my fondue nights at home. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the dipping sauce they tasted like sour cream and I'm used to a more mayo and garlic taste like they have at alpenhause. We did not get to do the chocolate at the end as we had to go but I loved the food and would recommend it if you're in the neighbourhood

We are seriously in shock at its low rating and happy to give Sucrerie de la Montagne the five…read morestars it right fully deserves! Honestly, after almost a week in Montreal, this was probably our favorite thing that we did and we're so glad that we drove the hour plus out of town for it. Their online system is not up to the 21st century, but we called a couple weeks earlier and easily made a reservation as well as a tour of the grounds. It's obviously post-tapping season, but the dining room still had plenty of tourists in it--although nothing compared to how packed the place must be when the season is in full swing. There was only one lady basically doing everything by herself, but she was just so uber sweet and earnest that she handled the tables and the check in and payment, etc. all so well. We absolutely adored her, and she did an excellent job showing us the sugar shack and explaining how the whole processed worked, etc. It's prix fixe for lunch, and it is A LOT of food. The table is already set in the most Canadian picturesque lodge that you could imagine and the pea soup that you start with tastes like a warm hug. It's served with freshly baked bread and you are just in the most surreal experience because everything is so lovely and cute and homey. After the soup, like a billion plates arrive to your table, and every single one is outstanding. Hot beans, every meat imaginable, potatoes, ham, sausages, an egg soufflé thing. Pair it with the three pickled items on the table. It's all so good! Is it going to be the greatest slice of meat pie you've ever had? No, but it really tastes like someone made it in the kitchen that morning, and maybe it's the gestalt of the experience, but damn, you are in HEAVEN. We could barely eat half of what we were given. But next is dessert! You get homemade pancakes and a sugar (maple pie) and now it's time to utilize the gargantuan bottle of maple syrup if you haven't already! It's more of a subtle/lighter taste than some of the stuff you're used to in the States, which is why we loved it so much. Swish it all down with some coffee and then walk over to the general store to buy syrup and souvenirs. Our complaint--and be forewarned--is that the maple candle they sell there is not unique to the Sucrerie (sold everywhere). All in all, we left this place floating down a river of maple syrup and even watched the Dirty Money episode of the syrup heist that night on Netflix (that ended up featuring this place!!!!). It's the first time on the trip that we really wished our daughter was with us because it was a special experience. We definitely want to come back to bring her here--especially during the winter months, which seems like it would be even more magical. Cinq etoilles!!!! Merci!!!!
