If you want to know how a place is, ask a patient. I am a patient and have been here for less than 3 months. I was at another care facility in Philadelphia and wasn't getting the help I needed, such as having my bandages changed daily as instructed by my surgeon. My left leg had to be amputated above the knee. I was diabetic and didn't know if.
When I came here, they bring nurses in to do an intake evaluation and they immediately seen my " good leg " had puss coming out of it in 3 different places. How long it had been like that is unknown. Embassy immediately put me on 10 days of antibiotics and dailey changed the bandages daily...., to which I am grateful
. The first nurse I met was Katelyn. She's the best.
However, there are some serious problems and issues with this place. Two nights ago I had an aide by the name of Ashley. I had requested ice water with another aide at 5 PM. I was told another Ashley went to get the ice cooler filled up. T almost 6 pm I turned on my call light again, and the first Ashley came back and I told her I wanted ice water. She said the dinner trays were coming and they couldn't pass out ice water until dinner was over and they collected the trays. I finally got ice water at 10 minutes before 8 pm. 10 minutes short of 3 hours. This goes on quite a bit.
I called the administrator and she said when you ask for ice water, the aide should get it.
I've been told by the doctors here no less than 3 times that I was dehydrated and needed to drink lots of fluids/water. I cannot drink warm water.
I had the same Ashley last night. When she was finished changing me, I told her I needed ice and water. She said I'd have to wait. What she didn't know was that earlier that day, I went through the same crap on first shift. I asked for ice water. Was told my aide didn't know if the ice cart was here. An hour later, I rang the call light again. This time the nurse came in. I asked her to do something to get me ice water. She said she would call the kitchen. Another hour later, I used my cell phone to call into the building and told whoever answered who I was and to get me ice water. This place bills my insurance who knows how much and they take all of my Social security and leave me with $45 a month and you can't even get ice water!!!
I told Ashley # 1 last night I wanted ice water and ice and asked " Why do I always have to wait?? ".
She said " why are you being mean? " She then said something about do I want to deny 5 other people their care?? I don't know what she was talking about. She then said she " wasn't a servant. I told her " your an aide!! An aide helps and assists their patients. Our money pays their bills. Alot of these aides say you'll have to wait and never do come back.
And getting back to the 2nd Ashley I mentioned. One time I had diarrhea and she came in. I have to wear diapers in my condition for now. When she went to change me, she never attempted to clean me up in the front part of my groin. She left and the first Ashley came in. I told her what happened. She opened up my diaper and just shook her head. She went and got towels and wash cloths and stuck the first wash cloth down my groin and pulled it out. She showed it to me. It was completely covered in crap. This has happened with a couple of other aides and I reported it.
I am 66 years of age and very alert and make my own decisions. I won't tolerate.this. There are good aides here But there are bad ones also. There are some who do as little as possible. There are others who do come back and check on you.
The aide I have today is Jenny. She came back first thing when she got here. Checked my ice water. Always has a smile and already has filled up my ice and water cups, twice. I never worry about anything when she is here and she always responds to my call light fairly quick.
I have found most of these nurses to be good ...and professional, except for one by the name of Ruth. More about her later. I have more to share, and a lot of it isn't good. I will see if some of these things change for the better. All I want is for an aide to come in and do their job andeave their outside issues and attitudes at home. That's it .
