I want to commend the staff here, they are all fantastic! A specific and extra shout out though, to Trina. My dog had issues with anal glands and she was the "one" for him. I would only take him in for that appointment, when she was working, because she is the best and he really relaxed and trusted her. Emancipet as a whole is absolutely, the best clinic I've ever been to... you can't beat their pricing, efficiency and comfortable atmosphere. I usually alternate between the location in Killeen or the one in Austin. Emancipet is not an actual vet for injuries or anything but is a non profit that provides low cost care for our fur babies. These services include things such as annual shots, nail trim, and spaying/neuturing. In my experience, it's better to go later on a weekday. If you go early or on Saturday, there is an extended wait time. Upon arrival, you check in at the front desk and receive a text of the waitlist. When it is close to your pet being called, another text is sent and you have 30 minutes to get back to Emancipet. All of the workers are very nice and handle your pets with care. They are very knowledgeable and gentle. I have a chihuahua that has to be muzzled because of his anxiety and they always seem to calm him before servicing him. Intake and pick up instructions not clear; you can not just walk in to pick up your pet they will rudely tell you to leave and go outside in the cold and stand in crazy long lines. They are in no rush to see anyone. Prices are not as advertised, they will upcharge you on the prices and thing they swear you will need. So expect for a spay or neuter over 150+ dollars. Man and woman taking payment are extremely rude and disrespectful. This place is on the seedy side of Killeen so be prepared the service is just as it looks on the outside, subpar and substandard. We recently had a stray female cat adopt us. I checked with our vet we had used in the past and a spay on a female cat was $1,200+. Vaccines would be extra. I found Emancipet and we scheduled her for a spay. We also had her microchipped and vaccinated ("the works"). Our whole total for everything was $178. Unbelievable. We received excellent service before the procedure with emails and even a phone call to see if we had any questions prior to the surgery. Day of - we waited in line in the am for about 1/2 hour. It was like an assembly line. The staff had it down. We then picked her up about 4. Everything was explained. Medication and instructions were given. We had a great experience. These types of clinics are doing great work for the communities they serve. Not everyone can afford a $1,200 spay. This makes is affordable for everyone. They did clip her ear. I worked at a rescue years ago, and I realize that it helps to identify trapped cats that have already been spay/neutered, and they can be released instead of processed into the system unnecessarily. I love this low cost vet service office. From the quaint little house, to every staff member. I started coming here a year ago when I moved to Texas. We were still to busy, and tight on funds for a full service office. Just needed heartworm workup, rabies vaccination. It was a walk up facility. During covid it switched to curb. Now it's limited numbers allowed in the clinic. Check in, registration clip boards are on the side of the building. Fill out the form first, see the tech at the window , they will let you know how many patients are ahead of you. They will also text you a link to follow the wait time along, and let you know they are ready for you. We waited about 1.5 hour, service was quick and pocket painless. Wellness check $9.00. I have went back and forth about writing this review, but I really feel I need to warn future clients when it comes to spay/neuter services and the experience my little guy and I had. First of all the staff was wonderful, I can not complain at all about the customer ervice we received.....my issue if the amount of medication they gave my little 6 pound maltipoo that I had neutered. What an experience. First I want to list all the meds they gave him....Lidocaine 2% Local Anesthesia, Meloxicam Inj 5mg/mL (pain med), Midazolam Inj 5mg/mL (anti-anxiety) Ketamine Inj 100mg/mL (anesthesia) , Acepromazine 10mg/mL (sedative), Butorphanol Inj 10mg/mL (opiod pain med), Isoflurane (Anesthesia). I by no means have any experience in Vet medicine, however on a personal note, it is my personal opinion that this drug list may have been excessive. I couldn't schedule him with his normal vet due to availability, he was booked out, so I made the decision to go here, I wish I hadn't. My little guy has been under anesthesia several times to have his teeth cleaned and always comes out of anesthesia beautifully, no issues at all. On this day he was neutered at Emancipet, saying he came home drugged is an understatement. Today is day 9 since surgery and he is just now returning to his old self. We really thought we were going to lose him. He was dehydrated, lethargic, constant diarrhea and vomiting (i realistically expected some of this but no to this extent), he wouldn't eat for days. I took him in to his normal vet within 24 hours of the neuter, and they kept him for 3 days flushing his system....it was touch and go. I was a nervous wreck. My normal vet explained to me that places like Emancipet tend to operate on quantity, due to the amount of pets the operate on in one day and there is goal is to keep the "masses" calm and quiet, to minimize disturbances and maximize productivity. All I can say, is never again. My little guy is my spirit animal and I don't know what I would do without him. Yes, I take accountability too because I just should have waited for my family vet to be available, but I just bought a new home and he was marking his territory everywhere and needed the neuter done. So we went to get my cat fixed and there is a before picture of her ear and the after. When we went to the place the lady at the front desk was acting "not too smart" and was telling me a lil piece of my cats ear would show she was fixed. Did not clarify my cats would get half her ear chopped off. The reason was so if found by the pound they would knows she fixed but honestly now they think she is a street cat. Scheduled an appointment for cat spay weeks out at the Killeen, TX office. Arrived along with approximately 50 other people needing the same service. Staff came and told all of us they had to cancel every appointment for that day. 40 mile round trip for nothing. Tried to schedule spay services for 4 cats and had no appointments available for 3 months out. Scheduled spay appointment at the Pflugerville, TX office and got scheduled within the month. Turned into a 3 hour round trip but was worth it after seeing the results. Service and staff were excellent. Website states walk in only for vaccinations just show up when you're ready. Arrived back at the Killeen, TX office with 4 cats for follow up vaccinations with one person ahead of us in the waiting room. Was told to leave and come back in 3 hours. Another 40 mile round trip wasted. Cats are totally stressed out. My observations and experience, the Killeen office operates on a random and reactive basis without the needed oversite to provide for a smooth operation. Management of this office needs management and someone to hold them accountable for LACK of management. The Killeen office lacks any kind of real leadership and customers should be ready for the results when dealing with this location. read more

I do not recommend the Killeen TX emancipet location one bit. I rather go to Austin or heck Ill drive further like Dallas ..Waco even. We brought our dog to get fixed and they acted as if they'd never seen this breed before. All kinds of brand new. I took precautionary measures to protect others as my dog is not used to strangers... which was everyone there to include staff...new strangers (other customers and their fur babies) my dog is about a year and few months old. Since these people acted brand new with this breed.. they wanted me to stay give my dog the calming meds. UH you cant do it?? I mean its their job right??? Then asked me to stay until the procedure. I said no i cannot stay i needed to go. Waiting for the go ahead to leave was extremely confusing as as the staff stated go outside to wait with the other people.. But that was wrong I should have been directed to sit in the lobby inside to finish paperwork which I figured out with another person sitting outside. We went on inside to finish up.... they kept on skipping us as if we were invisible. We finally got someones attention to finish.... The first intake person was kind and attentive... the next..well yeah ill leave that alone. We got to finally leave after all this.... they say that we would get a text when our furbaby was done. if not come on down 430 pm to pick up. Ok got it understood. Around 1 ish i get a text saying my furbaby was ready so we head on out for pick up. Upon arrival I state I am here to pick up my furbaby. The receptionist is like no you cannot pick up is at 430. I said well why do i have a text stating come get your dog. the colored hair snotty person then refers to my dog as the aggressive one. I was about to get aggressive at this point. I held my composure. Be the bigger person.....Ugh. The animals are drugged before surgery I seriously doubt my furbaby was aggressive. Woozy at best. I mean I had to give the first doses to calm my furbaby down. so for sure ...my furbaby was not aggressive... but hey i get it..some folks are built different. Your own opinions........ Anyway--- They then proceed to tell me I need to get my furbaby out of the holding crate. ( Yeah ok. Scared much?! considering this is YOUR job...perhaps find another if you cannot handle large breeds ) My woozy furbaby saw us and instantly came on out. We could not wait to leave. As we left out happily and carried our baby into the car...instant blood. The incision popped open and well the kind vet had to add staples to ensure stability. Apparently no one checked my furbaby's incision site beforehand. One of the hispanic chicks smirked and smiled walking past me saying " no one checked" then kept on doing her work. The only kind people we dealt with were the 1st intake blond lady and the actual vet. No one in here really cares or acts like they do. They are there for a paycheck and that is it. I would NEVER bring back any of my animals to this place. We were instructed to come back to have the staples removed in 12 days. NOPE! I ordered a staple remover from amazon for $5. Did it myself. I could not subject my furbaby to this mediocre treatment again. This place needs a new staff.. perhaps some people training...Disgusted at this place.Low cost. low service. I am happy that there is someone around that has affordable pet care. I had used this establishment about a decade ago, but under a different name. Time has not been good regarding the organizational skills to Emancipet's appointment system and I have never gone through an appointment process such as this. Getting an appointment is nearly impossible. It seems that none of the clinics make their own appointments and all the clinics are connected to the same appointment line, I had 42 callers ahead of me, I just assumed they were a little bit busy? But, I found out that was not the case when I tried to call their mobile unit, which was a totally different number; it was the exact same message, but this time there were 53 callers a head of me. I elected for the call back option: the first time I selected the option, it did not go through; the second time I called to get the mobile unit, just over 5 minutes for the system to come back with the message it was received. I know that this is a non-profit, but still, it would be easier to establish a better system for the spay and neuter part of the organization. read more

I don't know how the receptionists handle all the barking and some sniffing and growling happening at the lobby all the time. 10/10 for them for that! DOCTORS: 10/10 They are one of the friendliest vets I've ever met! My dogs are happy and healthy! PRICE: 10/10 For spay/neuter it's a flat rate of around 60-70$$$ and for rabies shots and other shots they are VERY AFFORDABLE! Like $10-15 per shot. $5 donation/admin fee for their services. SERVICE: 9/10 I know nothing is perfect... they only provide shots services, they don't provide any medical/surgery services except for spaying/neutering your pets. The staff has piss poor communication skills. They think speaking "softly" is the same as being professional. The same staff, Katrina, made wait 2 hours just to tell me I couldn't be seen with my dog until I've had them for 3 days. They could've asked what services I was there for and if they've seen my pet before when they put me on the waitlist but they don't ask any questions. I came back 2 days later and after waiting for 1.5 hours (30 minutes after checking in), they skip me and take the next person in line. I took screenshots of the waitlist. When I go inside to let them know they skipped me, Katrina (yet again), tells me it's because my dog doesn't have a profile. Again, something that could've been addressed if they asked any questions at intake. I waited for 30 minutes and could've easily created a profile. There were 2 staff members at the lobby and no one in the lobby so one of the staff members could've easily made the profile. They take advantage of the low cost clinic and the fact that people will NEED their services or have to pay more at a vet so they show no type of professionalism or respect but expect us to be mature and respectful adults towards them. read more

I had two dogs, spayed and neutered brought them home less than a week later they developed a cough took them back to emancipet. She said it was from the tracheal tube or the tube that they put in during surgery brought them home now my German Shepherd has the same cough, which we were told by our vet is kennel, cough Kat says you sign a contract stating that your dog can develop kennel cough , so I went up there today and I have two senior dogs and a puppy because I rescue and I foster they told me to take all of my dogs to the vet and if it was surgical they would cover the cost kennel. cough is not surgical, but supposedly in the contract stating that they could possibly get kennel cough would've never took my dogs there. then they tell me no of the other dogs owners are complaining well no crap because the vets telling them it's from the tube being stuck in their throat. I will never take another dog there. Never please do not take your dog there because even though they get the shot, the Bordetella shots does not mean they cannot get kennel cough. They can still get it. It just lessons the effects of it. read more

For a place offering walk-in vaccinations, they should really work on their organizational skills for speedy service. There's no reason the tiny lobby should be packed full of dogs and cats waiting over an hour and a half for simple vaccinations or to pick up some heart worm medication. The check in process needs to be streamlined with 1-2 technicians fast tracking simple vaccinations and heart worm tests. This isn't a full service vet and you shouldn't be spending over 30 minutes with each pet owner (lord forbid someone brings in their three giant dogs). When used for a spay, the check in process was slow - well over an hour just to drop off. You and 20+ people show up for check in. Many people don't follow the dogs first then cats rule so you have dogs lunging at cat crates and general mass chaos. They'll call you 30 minutes before closing to come get your dog knowing you work across town and demanding you hurry. Their "texting" service for pick up reminders lacks greatly and no one ever answers the phone when you're trying to check in your pup. Forget trying to set an appointment for vaccinations because you'll just end up still waiting over an hour because "no spare rooms." I've had plenty of great experiences at other low cost clinics. Emancipet has other locations that are run much more smoothly. They should take some advice from them. read more

Very affordable! I would recommend this pet clinic to anyone who is balling on a budget. I must say that the waiting area can be pretty tight, so if you intend to go be wary of this. Also, read what you authorize the veterinarians to do, so you are aware that when it is time to checkout you'll know exactly what you're paying for. If your dog/cat comes in and the doctor sees fleas/ticks/eggs.. with your authorization (not fully reading through) you will still be charged for the removal of the fleas/ticks/ & treatment.. depending on what you have your pet coming in for. Especially surgery. The heart worm test here is $20. TWENTY DOLLARS. I went to a different pet hospital and got an estimate with all the shots that Emancipet provided, and going to Emancipet SIGNIFICANTLY SAVED me a lot of money. The price of the heartworm test there(SCP) was $40. I saved $53 dollars just by going to Emancipet to get my pet exam,3 shots and a heart worm test. read more

My dogs on their first visit did great very nice vet tech and veterinarian. I am not affiliated with Emancipet. I have just used them and known of them since before they came to Killeen. They are dear to my heart, because they enable rescue groups to get many more animals spayed/neutered and vaccinated than they could normally afford with regular veterinary charges. In response to Lucia B: Home Again Microchips are free. The company tries to sell you a guarantee or some add-on, but the listing in their database is free for life. This has nothing to do with Emancipet. You just need to read the informational pamphlets and go online to check on your microchip at their website - at which time you can add more information and receive EVERYthing you ever needed to know about microchips and their add-on charges, which are optional. Emancipet's Customer Service is excellent. However, you need to take into consideration that they are LOW COST - if you want to pay less, you have to consider that something gets cut. In Emancipet's case, they do not have an overhead for customer service personnel. The veterinarians are volunteers from the surrounding area. The Emancipet staff itself is very limited in numbers and work their butts off. read more

So this is my rant of the day. Emancipet gave my cat this stupid microchip from homeagain.... I moved and I've tried contacting them several times via telephone.. Their customer service is the worst!!!! I love petlink instead.. These people are a total rip off. I want this issue fixed!!! petlink there's no fee and with home again is a damn fee left and right. If one of u have any info on how to fix this problem pm me. Emancipet are good on the vaccinations and spay/neuter.
