The theater was great I went to see the new transformers movie but I went to the restroom and almost threw up with every stall I seen pee was all over almost every toilet. Feces and blood was on the others all in the girl restroom that's disgusting. read more

I've lived in Royal Oak for 5 years, and this is still a fairly convenient theatre--I try to park in the neighborhood and walk, parking is expensive and a little stressful. I think that will improve as RO adds more parking. I would've given them a solid 3 stars, but I'd like to this Emagine take some steps to reduce plastic. I mean, this is silly--you bothered to get your building LEED certified; let's see some follow-through at the Grille as well. You could switch to a Starbucks style "sip" lid instead of straws, or better yet, have a Emagine branded drinkware ;) that we can re-use. Maybe ask if we need disposable silverware instead of just giving it to customers, since a lot of movie food is finger food, and serve it in compostable containers instead of styrofoam. The movie-going experience is still pretty good; they have all the trappings of an Emagine theatre. Decent snacks, Michigan beers, and comfy chairs. The staff has always been nice and helpful in my experience. They used to have bowling lanes downstairs, but now they are just 4 lanes upstairs. It's very inexpensive ($6 with shoes!) but when I went, the lanes were have some "quirks" so I wouldn't take competitive bowlers there ;) read more

This is the closest movie theatre to my house. It is always busy and sold out. They used to have bowling here but they got rid of it. You can get free parking in the structure if you are a loyalty card member. Edit: the last time we were here we only got half off of parking with validation. I hope this was a mistake bc if not, I will not be going to this theatre as often. read more

It used to be a section of the building where there were bowling alleys, now it is plush recliners and emax screens with Atmos sound. And the recliners have built in heaters. I love Emagine theaters. Good service. Comfort. Convenience. I wasn't thrilled with parking.. Thanks to Yuppie Demon Spawn in Royal Oak. But Emagine isn't to blame for that. read more

We went to see John Wick and chose the cuddle seats. When we got there we realized that it was unbearable and to much discomfort. My boyfriend asked at guest services where to change seats and no one was there. He had to fall on line for the concessions and they told him there's nothing they can do. I don't agree with this. Then we fell inline to get a refund. They told us to go to guest services and maybe get a refund, but they don't even know where that was. My favorite things about this place: 1. Poppin Olive Popcorn - Yum my friend and I usually go through a large tub and half every time we go. 2. The frozen drinks. 3. The friendly staff. I highly recommend getting the loyalty card it has some good perks like free parking for a few hours (just let the service desk know what space you parked in) deals on popcorn and drinks and a free movie ticket for your birthday. I also recommend adding the app to your phone... it makes it super easy to buy tickets and once you arrive all you have to do is show them your tickets on your phone. read more

Good job Emagine team, everyone was working hard from the concessions to the people who make the theater floors spotless, thank you for all that you do. This is my 3rd time at this location and its always a good experience, the staff is helpful and the popcorn and the cherry slushi is amazing. I will return as my wife and kids love this place. GO TO THEATERS LIKE JOHN R., and NOVI. I purchased two tickets for recliner seats that did not serve its full function and was thus, dysfunctional. Upon finding out AFTER purchasing the tickets I asked for my money back, which was not granted by this theater. I called the theater after finding out that I couldn't get the money refunded and even left a voice message requesting a call back. When the time approached to enjoy the movie, I was welcomed by a grease stained seat with popcorn in its creases. We requested that the seats be cleaned, and the rep wiped the seats down for us. The discomfort and cleanliness were only the start of the issues with this theater. There were noisy kids "skipping shows" in order to see more movies for the price of one. Finally, the morning after I went online and contacted the theater via their website (see photos). The theater ONLY contacted me back because I threatened them with bad reviews and letter to the CEO. Upon contacting me she insisted that I bought my tickets online (which I did not) and that video surveillance shows the seats being cleaned THREE times before I walked into the theater. My concern: you knew the seats were filthy and had to be cleaned three times to look remotely decent, but they still weren't clean. Three times at Royal Oak Emagine is obviously not a charm. She also spoke of the recliner seats which she believes served its purpose because "the seats did not recline because there was a wall behind it for handicap..but the leg rest goes up", basically, yes, we charge for our dysfunctional seat, no, it doesn't serve its purpose as the other recliners do, but you can out your feet up and you should be fine! This theater wants guest to pay for their lack of judgment in design and for their errors in cleaning. No more Royal Oak for my family and friends. I have put so much or my funds into this theater that treats quest with disrespect! read more

We went last night to see Dune. I paid $20 per seat for balcony seats. The ticket machine is not very clear about what part of the theater you are in. A bit expensive but if they are nice seats the movie is worth it. Not so much... the balcony is very small area with 2 rows of seats. The main viewing area is separated by a glass partition. This glass has dirty spots, reflections from the seat lights and it has a vertical seam right in the center of the screen. Never seen something like this before. Besides that it is very far away from the screen . The whole experience is like watching a large television. Added to that a malfunctioning sub woofer that makes a terrible noise. This movie theatre has been my worst experience by far. We hosted a birthday here for girls to watch SCREAM and our tickets were not checked whatsoever. When we entered we had to demand our seats and no one was there to help our maintain theatre security. We were not the only ones and many extra people with no tickets were piled on top of each other, three to a chair. When one child in the group got up go to the bathroom people were standing up in the theatre to take our seats again. Finally, to top it all off our car was hit with the valet inside it. It's like only champions work here. I planned to watch an early show but the valet line was down the block when I got there so I called to check to see what was going on lol. I have sensory issues so I was worried my solitary, single girl Valentine's Day plans were being ruined with large crowds. Turns out the guy over the phone completely understood? He. Was. So. Kind. He prepared me for a huge school trip and assured me I wouldn't have to deal with too much noise etc. In conjunction, the guy who took my nachos order was a saint, too! I was expecting something amazing the way people talk about this place. When we arrived, it was crowded and not that big. It is kind of cool that there is a restaurant and a bowling alley but it looks like a D&B or something. Nothing fancy about it. The theaters are a bit smaller than I am use to and I am not sure why it is more expensive when it is like any other theater. A plus side to it is that it is close to downtown royal oak so you can walk around before or after the movie. read more

I am a fan of the location in Novi, this one - not so much. The parking lot is super small, the lobby even tighter. The staff seemed friendly and accommodating but my overall experience left me with a headache. Were it not for the great movie, I would have been thoroughly disappointed. There is entirely too much going on within the small space that is Emagine Royal Oak. Between the tiny lobby, the bar and the concession stand, one could hardly move around freely. You actually have to dodge people walking in several directions to get to where ever you're going. I didn't even bother to stop for popcorn; I just wanted to get to my seat. The theatre offers preferred seating for an additional $2.50, which I love because it allows you to take your time and wait in that super long concession line if you choose and not worry about where you're going to sit when seeing a popular (crowded) movie. I expected to come in from the frigid cold to a warm cozy theatre, instead I was greeted by what felt like air conditioning on a very cold December day. I saw Les Mis, which is 2 hours and 37 minutes long -- I froze the entire time. I won't return to this location. I would love to give it one star but I'll throw in another one because I love the concept of these theatres. read more

I preordered a ticket for Deadpool 2 weeks in advance to be the first on my block to see it. Got to the theater early, grabbed some of their crap food because I didn't have time to eat. Went to the theater where they posted up one of their nitwit employees helping people find their seat. I'm a functional adult so I didn't need help. Found my seat, settled in, and ate my food. I stepped out before the previews to throw out my garbage and use the restroom. When I got back, the staff member had removed my jacket and belongings and given my seat to some other low functioning dipsh!t - without even checking his F'ing ticket. Then this dumb b!tch challenged me to prove it was my GD seat when I got back. This is why I go to AMC because they have their sh!t together. To hell with eMagine Royal Oak. To start off my review, I'm from NYC. My go-to theatre there is the AMC at 84th street with the reclining chairs, followed up by the AMC East Village, also with reclining chairs. I love reclining chairs. So when I was visiting the BF in Michigan this weekend and we decided to watch Logan, I left it up to him to find a theatre. He opted for Emagine Royal Oak because he wanted to show me the area. We arrived about 45 minutes to an hour before the movie (Logan) started and tried to buy tickets on the kiosk, which was really annoying and unintuitive. It showed the only available seats as the first row (fine) but that there were also other seats available if you upgraded. OK, sure, we try that. But when we get to that section of the ticket selection, it says that none of them are available anyways. So then why offer it on the other screen? Unhelpful. We ended up in the first row, which was kind of awful. It's definitely a smaller theater than the ones I'm used to and the first row seats are A LOT closer than a lot of the reclining theaters in NYC. It was definitely not a very comfortable viewing experience so perhaps make sure you get your tickets early if you plan on coming here. Tickets are cheaper than NYC, so I guess I can't complain about that. read more

I came here for D-box, but it made me feel like a D-bag! I wanted to experience the immersive movement of the seats...or so I thought. How were they? Ummm they work. We saw Ralph Breaks the Internet, and the seats broke my back and my spirit. While impressed that we as society have come up with such important engineering feats, I could do without this for the duration of my flick. And THEN I realized they don't recline!? Oh nooo. Do y'all know I won't even attend a non-indie theater unless seats recline? And the tickets were like double the cost for the privilege of being super erect, and not in the good way, without being to put my legs up, in a very good way. Now....let the kids try it. They'll think it's cool. But my bones are seasoned like chicken stock residue so not for me. This theater still gets a 4 for the full date night or hang out experience. A bar, great pizza, comfy chairs, wonderful customer service and lots to do in the area. I cannot provide a 5, because paying to park at a movie theater is so Los Angeles/Hollywood...this is Metro Detroit folks, wrong market. I also want to find out if the parking garage $$$ goes to the municipality or not. Because if it's just privately owned that makes it even less attractive. read more

Emagine itself is a nice theater, and it has very good popcorn. From a strictly Theatre perspective its a good. The bad? They charge for parking, they have "Premium Seats" they try and sell you, which are basically leather seats with a shelf to put your stuff on. If that isn't enticing enough for you, they have D-Box seats they try and sell you. D-Box, if you don't know, are seats that jiggle to the movie. It's 3-d for your butt. If everything wasn't so "Upgrade-y" I would rate it higher. Fortunately for me I came on a Holiday for a Matinee, but if I'd have had to pay to park, and pay full price for the movie, I would have felt very poor afterward. read more

My first time here was perfect! My daughter and I were joking about bottle service for our mommy daughter movie date and were excited to be able to have a bottle of wine. The bartender was friendly! She told us she would cork the bottle for us to take home if we had not finished it. We were give those cool Govina glasses which is just a nice touch! Good job Emagine! I haven't gone to a movie theater in years. Black Panther finally got me up and out there and having been to this place with its lovely bar, bowling, recliners, elegant water closets, the nicest staff, fun snacks...I do believe my inner cinemophile has been awakened and is raring to return. Roaring even. This place is spectacular. A nice young man held the door open for us, we got our tickets without a single hitch although we hadn't printed out our receipt, flocks of friendly people pointed us to the Ladies' and the bar, and our seats, and bragged about the alley (which I will definately be guttering soon,) and the ticket-taker had a vase of flowers from her manager at her station almost as pretty as her disposition. The lighting was both kind and helpful, it was clean and easy to navigate, and most of all, it felt celebratory and cozy. They have seats in the lobby for anyone to rest on while waiting for friends and people-watch. Most of all, it felt like being in the middle of a real community experience where you talk to others and actually share an experience. And then there are those reclining seats. I know theaters are having a hard time these days, but this is exactly the kind of environment that encourages one to crawl back out from under our digital world and reenter the real world to join in a collective encounter. We are richer for venturing out and meeting each other in the public sphere and this is a wonderful venue for that. I saw probably five generations milling about and talking to people they would never otherwise have met. I realize this is a fairly abstract review of a movie theater, but the Greeks began their experiment with democracy in the marketplace (agora) and it makes sense that we should continue it in a megaplex in Detroit. This theatre is SO COOL. At first the idea of having to sit through the Third Hobbit movie without seeing the first two was gnawing at me. My ability to sit through an entire movie and not go nuts was as well. All for the love of my child niece with an obsession for swords, bows and arrows and Orlando Bloom. My heart fell when I saw that the price for it in 3d was $13. Get outta here, this isn't New York! But it was worth it. The seats in the auditorium are huge. They're "Luxury Seating!" They recline! It's like lounging out on someone's sofa. What's even better was that my dear sister bought me a cup of wine. Yes, they sell booze here! Full wet bars - beer, liquor, wine. The cup wasn't just a cup it was a like a soda sized big boy cup of wine with a lid and a straw. What?! For only $9. The slurpy sized cup of wine lasted me till the near end. It gets better though. Not only does this place have awesome cushy chairs and alcohol for your movie viewing pleasure but a FREAKING BOWLING ALLEY! YEAH. If I could have this transported to New York so that I could host my birthday here every year for the rest of my life, I probably would in an ideal perfect world. Also, as far as snacks go? I've been here a few times now and I will avoid it from now on, particularly on weekends. There are always people having conversations in the back or yelling at the movie. The first time I spoke to the front about it but they did not send an usher. They have an armed guard upfront (wtf?) but seemingly no ushers. The second time I was just thankful the movie wasn't good enough to be ruined so I did my best to enjoy how comical it was that people were having full on conversations right behind me. Normally I really enjoy Emagine for the seats but this place is a zoo. Rochester might be better but for a true viewing experience try somewhere else read more

Visited at a Yelp event and came back to bowl and drink. Similar to the Lucky Strike concept, but less pretentious. There is a restaurant and very long bar, with a very modern bowling alley on one end. The food is medium pub done well. As part of the Yelp event we had a cross section, and it was all good. Good draft beer selection, a little pricey. We were told it was just remodeled, and it looks new and clean. The bowling alley is modern fun. It is nice to be at an all in one that does not break your wallet. A fun night out. read more

As always it's a great experience to go to this theater. However the only issue that I'm having now is they no longer sell tickets at the ticket counter and you have to go to confession or online. I went to the this Emagine to see All the Money in the World on December 26, 2017. I love and frequent the Emagine in Macomb and have to say everything people posted was true. I know they were busy, but gosh this place was filthy! There appeared to be a manager type asking if people needed help finding their theater, but maybe he should have grabbed a broom instead. Popcorn all over the floor, overflowing trash, dirty floors. If I were the manager I would have grabbed a mop and a broom and started cleaning. It's terrible to sit in a dirty theater. We wanted to see the movie, and of the theaters showing the movie, we picked Emagine due to the exceptional condition of the theater in Macomb. You can order food from the restaurant at the concession stand but you have to wait for it, as it is not delivered to you seat. I understand there are some limited showings which concessions will bring you your food, but again the Macomb theater will deliver food to any theater, it's a nice touch. Everyone is correct about parking. It's a bit confusing. I parked in the garage, memorized my number, showed them my perks card and they gave me a voucher. I thought I was going to have to hand it to an attendant on the way out, but there was no one. As always, everyone was VERY nice! read more

Recently I was invited to my girlfriend's work party at Emagine. We walked in and up the stairs to a private room with its own four lane bowling alley, two huge TV screens, shuffleboard table, lounge area and bar. The room itself was pretty cool although I didn't get a chance to bowl. The shuffleboard table, I suspect, was nowhere near close to level given that it was near impossible to slide a straight puck down table. The bar was OK however the bartender was not on his game and often left patrons drinkless. The food was brilliant for finger food. Not necessarily upscale but well made. The gyoza were well prepared as were the meatballs, the pizza rolls, mac and cheese bites, etc. The pizza looked really unhappy so I didn't try it and the sliders had been in the chafing dish so long that the bottom bun was more like a cracker from drying out. All in all a noteworthy experience from a catering perspective. The room I was in would be great for a bachelor party, a NYE party or a Superbowl event. It backed up to another room to accommodate a larger party and it definitely had potential. read more

Had the opportunity to see a prescreening of a movie here recently and had a wonderful experience! I have never been to an Emagine or this location before and will definitely be back. The parking situation for not being used to the area was a little overwhelming at first. I recommend using the parking garage and if you are an Emagine rewards member (can easily sign up online) you can have the parking fee covered so it is free. Also as an Emagine rewards member you get a free small popcorn for free on Tuesdays or if you're like me who entirely needs more than a small can get an upgrade which was $1 for a medium and $2 for a large (what a steal!) the theater was well maintained and had a beautiful screen and very comfortable lounge seats. The only complaint I had was they had little staff in the concessions area so the waiting was a bit long but overall I recommend this location highly and it made for a great date night for me and significant other. read more

Whether it's the Royal Oak location, Novi or Birmingham...the Emagine is the only theater that will get my money. I use to visit AMC theaters faithfully before Emagine came around and now, I don't see how the AMC theaters are still open. The main attraction to this place is LUXURY! I don't know any other theater when I can fully recline in VERY comfy recliners, have a nice alcoholic drink and great food all while watching a movie! Then, I can go have another drink and go bowling afterwards! It's amazing! I have never had a bad experience here. It's always clean and the staff is always friendly. This theater has private screening rooms for small parties or business meetings (I came here for a business meeting before and it was unlike any meeting I have ever been to). Very cool. I took away a star for two reasons. One, the prices. Movie theater prices are always excessive which I will never understand. The alcoholic drinks range from $11 to $15. Granted, they can be strong depending on who makes it but you can still get the same drinks at every bar on Main Street for about $9. Food is pricey as well. 2 chicken tender baskets which consist of three tenders and fries and two Long Islands was almost $50! Two, you have to pay to park unless you are a loyalty member. I get it. People use their parking spaces/garage to park even when they aren't seeing a movie. However, I think there should be a way to track who parks there for the movies and who parks to walk down Main Street. I'm already paying a lot to see the movie and eat. Parking can be free. This is a review for Emagine as a private party space. They have a well-decorated lounge/bar/restaurant area and bowling boutique area that lends itself the perfect spot for a graduation or sweet 16. ( non alcoholic, obviously). They can do a quesadilla/sliders/meatballs spread that's perfect for a group of young people. The bowling area is complete with sofa seating and mood lighting. When you order pretzel bites and you look at the "cook" pull down a bucket and slam his hands in NO GLOVES. That's all. That is a no. The staff found it not to be a big deal. Now the bathrooms will tell you a lot about a establishment. Can we do it looked like a gas station bathroom off Route 66. This was my first time at this particular theatre and overall I had a good time. The seats were comfortable and had a heater on them in case you needed it. The theatre itself was set to a good temperature. The screen was perfect and in my opinion every seat in the house was a good seat. The concessions were good, only wish they allowed you to put your own butter on your popcorn so you can decide how much you want. The parking situation is a bit confusing for someone who hasn't been to this theatre before. They do have signs that explain how parking works but they are hard to read unless you are inside the building or in the valet area. The staff seemed nice enough. read more

Prices aren't bad for the theater and the inside was clean and the wait staff was awesome and friendly inside the theater. Emagine Royal Oak is never my first choice for a movie theatre in the metro Detroit area, but I recently visited again to see hereditary. When you are paying a premium price for popcorn, you would expect it to be at least luke warm, but our large popcorn was actually cold. We even asked them if we could receive fresh popcorn and they told us it was fresh but it had clearly been sitting out all day. Our chairs shared cupholder was broken which was both uncomfortable and a distraction. There were staff members in our theatre throughout the show, but they did nothing about the loud teenagers snapchatting parts of the movie with their flash on. Overall this is not my first choice in theatres, which is a shame because it is in such a prime location. I have only ever had positive experiences at Emagines (Canton, Novi) but this Emagine is always our last resort.
