Worse experience ever!!!! Arrived half hour before the show was to start. Went into theater #10 as directed and it was completely dark. Went back to the lobby and told the "security/ticket looker person" that it was dark in there and I'd wait out here until closer to the start time. Ten minutes before start time, still empty dark theater. Went back to the "security boy" and he kind of laughed and asked my seat # and said he would show me to my seat. Another woman walked up and said she also thought they needed to turn lights on in that room. He walked us into #10 and he said "wow, where are the lights?!" DUHHHH.... did he think I was lying to him. He radios for someone to turn on the lights and the whole room is a mess!! Hasn't been cleaned. He leaves the other customer and I standing at our seats that need cleaned to "find someone to come this place up" No one comes. I go to the counter in the lobby and ask for a manager. The young manager boy said that he would get it cleaned. They quickly clean up and the show starts. A half hour after the show starts, the lights are still on. I can smell the freshly made popcorn and entrees before I enter the building and that smell alone makes me a loyal customer. I will always come back to enjoy movies here! I'm a huge fan of Emagine. They've got nice theaters and usually excellent seats. This location is no different in that regard. It's also got a restaurant and bowling alley, though I just went here for the movie. The reason for my low review was the cleanliness of the bathroom. It was rather dirty. Some toilet seats were cracked and others covered in... something. If I had not absolutely needed to go, I would have held it. read more

Great theatre, my first time out to the movies since having kids 3 years ago. We attended mid October 2020 right during the pandemic. Everyone was wearing masks and it was fairly empty. The theatre itself probably had around 10 People in it so we were well spaced out. This place has bowling allay and restaurant but they were both closed. Look forward to returning here. We also missed our scheduled time and had to exchange it for a later showing. We were able to with out any issue, very good customer service. We didn't try the food as we had just eaten. read more

This is a great place to go see a movie, have a party, do a little bowling, enjoy snacks, have something to heat...it's a great place to enjoy yourself and have quality time with family and friends. Parking here is plentiful in the parking lot or in the parking structure nearby. Parking fees are reasonable. The theater is kept up very well. It looks new each time I visit it and I have been attending for some time. If you are looking for a quality venue for a community event or any other large style event this should definitely be at the top of your list to check out. The service here is professional and kind. The services and activities here are interesting and varied. The food is fresh and delicious. Their snack bar, for movies and such, is reasonably priced and offers many fine choices. read more

I came to this theatre two times this month and I was extremely disappointed. There is construction of a new building being built in front of the theatre which has taken up majority of the parking lot. If you come for a movie either arrive 15-20 mins early to wait in line for parking or park down the street. My other issue is the cleanliness in the actual theatre and bathrooms. No one is thoroughly cleaning the seats and floors after each movie nor making sure the bathrooms look presentable. Both times I came to this location this month there was tissue and pee all over the bathroom, missing stall door, water pressure also needs to be corrected. Everyone got sprayed from the waist down when washing their hands. Please do better! read more

The movie costs $12/person and two drinks, small bag of Swedish fish and box of nestle crunch costs $13, something is very wrong when our movie visit costs more than dinner. I feel we have been had. This review is solely based on the reclining chairs and prices of the movies. The price of a movie is $11 online which I think is a pretty decent price for a movie. The theater was really cold so luckily we brought a blanket. The bowling ally(NOT) the atmosphere. So I got there at 5pm to meet a friend. The doors were so heavy and hard to open even for me just emagine(lol) how hard it was for my friends who was disabled. Smh. We wanted to Grab a bite to eat. Watch a show. Have a good time. So we thought.I bought tickets for the 730pm show come to find out it was for 10pm. I was paying the meter(not good). Ordered drinks. A mimosas for me($13- for 4oz) and a hennesy with cran and pomegranate juice for my friend($17-for 12oz). Due to the disability issue it was hard to find a comfortable place to sit that wasnt already taken. So we sat at the restaurant area and ALL of the tables were dirty. The 2 staff was at the bar. 1 female(rude) 1 male- meh. Ended up ordering a quesadilla with our popcorn since I wasn't able to take the menu from the bar to our table . This place is not disability friendly. The staff wasn't friendly at all. And my parking wasn't validated as I was told. And the parking lot was not plowed very Well when I got there therfore when we left it was nothing but ice. Not good for anyone let alone a disabled person. read more

I love Emagine theatres for a lot of different reasons, mostly for their comfortable, reclining seats. I usually go to the Rochester Hills Emagine, but came here today for the movie about Bob Probert, former Detroit Red Wing player. I have been here before, but not in a long time. The joy of this location is that they have a greater selection of movies than the theatres close to me, which is why I came here today. I forgot that this place you actually have to pay for parking. ugh. I HATE that. Movies these days are already a luxury, and now I've got to pay to park. Yuck. But, walking in the place is huge with a ton of entertainment. They have a bowling alley here, restaurant/bar and some other cool features as well. You really could spend an afternoon here easily between those things. I will say, the reason I only gave it three stars instead of 5 is for a few, basic dumb reasons. First, the layout is weird. When I purchased my tickets, I didn't know what theatre I was in. The gal that rang up my order said "theatre 11, upstairs." Well, I couldn't find it. I had to ask a supervisor walking around, and she saw my ticket receipt. No theatre number printed on it. I had 3 minutes before the movie started and was in a rush. Not fun. Secondly, I had a hard time locating the bathrooms. After the movie was done, I couldn't find any upstairs so I wandered around downstairs. Fortunately, another gal saw me and we found the bathrooms together. I dunno, maybe signage would help. I will probably be back here in the future because they really do have a ton of shows to choose from. Also, there's food within a stones throw of the theatre if you want to eat. Small parking lot, but ramp near the back of the lot usually has spots open. If you do have to park in the ramp, make sure to get your parking validated on the way out! Fairly clean. Huge comfy chairs, we got the recliners. Screen was clear, sound was good. They even have a five dollar movie deal all day on Tuesdays. Good morning, Last night I visited Emagine Royal Oak 9/26/23 to see The Nun 2 in theater 5, seats D1, D2, D3. I purchased a 21 and up viewing, and when purchasing tickets I had to confirm three times that everyone in my party would be 21 and up. When we arrived to the theater we visited the bar first ($51 with tip) and the concession stand before heading to our seats for the movie. The whole last row of the theater was filled with children approx ages 5-7. They were coughing with their mouths open, and being chatty as kids can be. I went back to the bar and notified the bartender, his name tag said manager, and he quickly got on their intercom system for someone to go check out my complaint. The guy checking tickets as I walked back to the theater said, "I did not want to go to that theater." Nothing was done. The children stayed in the movie. Other patrons were "shhhing" them but it didn't matter. Eventually their parents (sitting separate from kids) got up telling them to "shut the fuck up" "stop it or I'm going to punch you in the face" as the kids cried that they didn't want to see the movie. My husband went to get snacks from the concession and overheard employee Mike S bad mouthing my complaint to the gentleman wearing a security t-shirt checking tickets. He also stated that he had his young children running through the movie theater the night before. Clearly my complaint was not taken seriously or even addressed by any staff member. Eventually the parents did remove the children from the 21 and up movie. They returned without the children. We can only assume that they took these kids out to the car to sit while they enjoyed the movie. Or they made good on their threats that they would punch them in the face or beat their ass as they threatened so many times. Going forward I am asking that IDs be checked at the door and management hold employees accountable for not following policy and procedure of the theater. June 4th 2024 Review: "The theater is filthy from top to bottom, it is mismanaged, and this location is understaffed. Last time we went to this location we were refused chicken tenders at the concession stand for our movie because it wasn't Dine N' View, but the people sitting next to us at our movie ordered their chicken tenders (like we were trying to) & frozen cocktails at the concession stand & had it delivered to them. Not to mention how disgusting the bathrooms were. Both the men's bathroom & the woman's bathroom was covered in feces. My family members had to hover over the toilet bowl because of how filthy it was." July 31st 2024 Update: "The place was trashed beyond belief, and the garbage cans were overflowing. As I am writing this very review, I have over 1,276 movies in my digital collection. It is safe to say I am a movie buff. I prefer going to theaters for new movies on opening day, first showing, if my schedule allows it. I look forward to watching new release movies in theater; consequently, I have a high expectation for comfort and satisfaction while watching the movie at a theater. Over the past several years, I have been loyal to Emagine because of their exceptional customer service, seating comfort, food quality, and overall extraordinary experience. I came here today to watch Godzilla vs. Kong, and my experience could have been better. - Concessions: All the employees were at the concessions counter. They appeared to be understaffed and flustered. - Tickets: There were not any Emagine employees checking tickets at the booth entry at the hall or even at the theater entrance. During Emagine's previews, it always shows one about the company. Throughout all the different campaigns they have shown/shared, community is the common denominator theme among all. What made my experience so poor today is the absence of that community that Emagine shows as part of their service, part of their culture. I was also disappointed because my sister had originally suggested MJR and AMC; in synopsis, I responded to her with Emagine is better. I would really like to give the theatre 2.5 stars but this is Yelp. And that isn't an option. Last night I went to this Emagine theatre for the first time. The last time I went to any Emagine was several years ago. The first thing you really notice is the parking lot issue. You have to pay to park. Whether is in the Emagine parking lot in front of the theatre, across the street in metered parking or in a parking garage. Parking is a hassle. Stops fill up quick. Before 6pm, Matinee tickets are $7 each. Besides 3D films. Apparently they used to be $6? Speaking of 6pm, no children under the age of 17 are not permitted in Emagine UNLESS they are accompanied by an adult. The whole they select the seating for you is kinda weird to me. Needless to say, my family of 5 had to sit in the second to front row. In reclining seats. You can't change the back of chair and feet recliner separately. That was kind of annoying. The sound was wayyyyyy to loud and I feel the screen and projector are outdated compared to other local theaters. The graphics suck. I did like the fact the theatre was fairly warm and I wasn't cold the whole time. The concessions. Don't even get me started on them. Overpriced and flavorless. We got a large popcorn. It's extra for butter ($1 extra) and they put it on for you. Seasoning you buy yourself for $1.50. The popcorn was dry and flavorless. This evening I went to a movie night hosted by Yelp! First the popcorn was the best that I have had in a very long time. I almost got some on my way out! I wonder are they known for their super tasty popcorn? The inside of the theater was really nice, spacious and are seat was one of those big comfy reclining boys! Location wise, you can't find a better place to hang out in Royal Oak, there is food everywhere, in the parking lot there is a taco place, across the street a Greek street food stop, lots of food around. Unfortunately, I went to the wrong location (blind) and we were late to the movie. Fortunately, I don't think there is a bad seat in the place, we had a great view! We sat about 9 rows up, on the left of the screen, closest to the door. Also, they have a really nice "big" bar, once you get into the theater. Looked good, but I didn't have anything tonight. However, I will give the bar a try next time. I got a free popcorn because I signed up for the Loyalty Program - so, on top of it being good, it was free tonight - Awesome! This is my "home theater," being only a couple miles from my house. I watch two or three movies a month here. I have been going to this theater since it opened, and my daughter grew up seeing movies and having birthday parties here. It is in terrible condition. All seats are reserved, which is fine, but two of the last three times I've gone, someone has been in my reserved seat. There are no ushers to help out, I had to have the conversation with the person in my seat and make several people move to get the seat I paid for. The theater is grossly understaffed: nobody checking to see if you have tickets, no one in the theaters during seating, minimal people working concessions so long lines are a given. The bathrooms have been truly disgusting on several visits, and the bathroom off of the bar area had a floor so sticky it was like walking on chewed up gum. Most of the pinball/videogames aren't playable anymore. There are no standards regarding phone use or noise. Sadly, I am going to drive further for a cleaner, better staffed, appropriately run theater despite loving this theater for for the first decade of its existence. read more

Not sure why the average rating isn't higher. Perhaps ticket prices are modestly more expensive? There is currently limited parking in front due to construction. However, there is a large parking garage across the street offering two hours of free parking, and if prices are more, I would assume it's reasonable given the wide array of amenities offered here. For whatever it's worth, my son and I caught a matinee screening last week of a children's movie originally released 2018, and I paid $6 total for our tickets, and we had a great interaction with the young person staffing the concession stand. read more

My friend and I went here to see 'All the money in the world'. When we arrived we parked in the parking garage on level 2. I went downstairs and forgot to get my parking space number to enter into the machine. I went back up to grab the number and went to the machine to pay $5 for parking. I bought my tickets on the Emagine ticket website in advance so I could choose my seats. This theatre doesn't have a lot of available seats so buying in advance is necessary unless you have time to get here a half hour early. Total the bill for the tickets for an afternoon show was $8 per person. That's a bit more than I pay when I go to AMC during the day but the reclining leather seats are worth the upcharge when going out with friends you don't get to see very often. The theatre itself was clean and the seats felt amazing, relaxing and oh so so comfy during the film. When we got out I went to see if they validated for parking. It turns out that they do but only if you get it when you purchase your ticket. If you have already paid at the machine they WILL NOT refund your money. I could have saved $5 bucks had I known this and I wish there were some signs at the entrance to the parking garage regarding this. I don't get to this theatre very often and I didn't know this was the case. Other than that though I recommend this theatre for special outings with friends or dates. read more

My teenage son really enjoys seeing movies at Emagine theaters, especially action movies. Anytime an action film comes out he loves coming to Emagine and watching action in the D-box seats. Today was my first time at any Emagine theater so I was really expecting a super, ultimate top notch first class movie viewing experience... I received a marginal at best experience. Here's why... 1. Outside temperature today is only 72* , inside temperature was not much maybe even lower... thank goodness we had a fleece jacket in the car. 2. We came to see Jurassic Park, which is an action/adventure movie. I expected it to be loud at times but holy cow my ears were ringing for hours afterwards... even though I plugged my ears with my ear buds throughout the movie... maybe I'm just to old or maybe it was to loud ‍ 3. Emagine Royal Oak needs a good dusting/ cleaning. I'm just one of those people that notices things like that, but honestly I really didn't have to look for it, thick layers of dust and heaven knows what else covered every surface in here. I would have given 4 stars if it was clean in here, really..: even though it was cold and loud (to me) we had a lot of fun together seeing a movie then bowling and that is the only thing that really matters... to me. read more

Not typically an Emagine Royal Oak attendee since Rochester is much closer but decided to check this theatre out last night with some buddies. When we got there they had recently lost power- the movie was delayed and the popcorn machine not up and running. The team was quick to step up and still make everyone's experience enjoyable. I felt like the team working truly cared about my time there and they showed it by not only getting the machines up and running (and handing out some of the best fresh popcorn I have ever had) but also handed out free movie vouchers for the inconvenience. The delay was only 20 minutes and truly didn't put a damper on my mood, my friends or anyone else I could see. 11/10 experience - I just wanted to shout out the crew and say thank you! I went last night with my boyfriend for the first time since covid. The concession line was 25 minutes at least. It wasn't super long, just slow. So long we needed a drink from the stress. The bartender was nice but was super green. He appeared to have no training, like he started his bartending career 15 minutes before. He keyed in the wrong things so we were overcharged by $10 for two drinks (we actually changed our minds while still in line to make it faster and easier- no mixing, just pours) and then had to wait for his manager to fix it. AVOID!!! Long post ahead. My boyfriend and I went in at around 10pm to see Dark Waters on Tuesday. We got there at 9:30... We have to pay for parking, which is right outside of the movie theater. Kind of ridiculous, but whatever. We get inside and the box office is closed, forcing us to pay on the machines right inside of the doors. No big deal, I've used one of those before, but it might help if the credit card portion was working on ANY of them. From there, we had to wait in line at concessions. Waited about 10 minutes in line just to get our tickets, decided to order a pizza while we were at it. The girl working concessions told us they would bring it out, and we were pretty happy about that. We went to the bar immediately after this - no complaints here. The bartender was very nice and was very patient while I was trying to decide what I wanted to order. Fast forward to an hour after the movie starts - still no pizza. My boyfriend goes to check on it, and low and behold, the employee walks in minutes later. He sets it in my lap, says "Here." What a peach. Not even an apology for the wait time or anything. About 20 minutes after that, I got up to go to concessions. I was a solid 30 feet away when one of the employees yells "We're closed!" Like what? What if I was not even headed there to begin with? Just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I went to the bathroom and there were - I cannot make this up - fruit flies EVERYWHERE. No thanks. Already took me going through 5 stalls to find a clean one. I'll hold it. I come out of the bathroom and the same employee that shouted that they were closed, were serving two more people. Lovely. After the movie was over, the staff had taken out all trash bags, which forced us to take our garbage home with us. I get that it might have been a long day, but there are still customers here that proooooobably have things to throw away. It's a movie theater, for god's sake. TLDR; staff does not know what they're doing, the theater is disgusting, and you have to pay for parking right in their own parking lot. We came here when they just opened and the bathrooms were dirty and there was popcorn all over the floors. I witnessed two mangers walking around side by side talking and laughing while I had to wait 8 mins at the counter for my food because they didn't have someone that could run the food to my seat as I'm watching 4 employees do nothing as I type this. I went with a friend to see IT this weekend. We considered the Dine N View but decided that eating during a horror movie wasn't a great idea and we were right. We decided to eat in the Emagine "restaurant", more like a bar that offers bar food, drinks and bowling. I ordered the fish n chips, it was hot, fresh and seasoned well. The same goes for the fries. My friend got the shrimp n chips and hers was good as well. Someone carelessly balanced my ranch dressing on top of my cole slaw and it spilled all over my plate. My biggest complaint about the restaurant is that our server didn't bring our food out, some other guy did, so I waited for her to come around to let her know we needed napkins and malt vinegar BUT SHE NEVER CAME BACK. Our server didn't think to check on us once during our meal. It's not because they were busy either, there were two other tables with people and that's it. And other servers so wtf? One napkin for finger foods is not enough. I'm not saying it ruined my meal but I wanted vinegar for my fish and the food was very greasy. Anyway, onto the movie experience. We decided to go to the Emax, their version of Imax I guess. The reclining chairs were fabulous since I have a bad back and IT was over 2 hours long. It was also deafening. Seriously, if that's the "upgraded" experience I'll go back to the regular theater. I suffer from hearing loss so I can only imagine how painful it is for people with full hearing. It was so loud I may have PTSD from the experience, I never jump at horror movies and it was all sound that made me do it. Stephen King doesn't rely on jump scares, his books are completely silent, if you do his story right you don't need to shock audiences with sound. Ugh. But that's a different story for a different day. One last thing - $4 for a bottle of Dasani is fucking outrageous. One of the many reasons people prefer to stay at home and watch Netflix is movie theaters overcharging people for snacks.
