The contractor states his crew was on site full‑time, but that did not match what I personally observed or what neighbors reported. Communication became inconsistent, deadlines were missed, and progress slowed significantly. Because of ongoing delays and work that licensed professionals later described as deficient, I ended the contract. The contractor says he was not given time to finish, but my documentation reflects many delays and reassurances over a 10‑month period. Independent inspectors and engineers identified issues with window installation, electrical work, and structural elements. Their written reports suggest that several items require revision to meet safety and code standards. This is particularly important to me, my family, and guests who will be staying there. It was onlly after termination that I received change orders. They were not accompanied by the detailed invoices I had been requesting for months. The contractor has still not provided supporting documentation, and it has been well over a year. In my opinion, and based on conversations with other professionals and their written reports, the amounts listed are extremely high, exaggerated and inconsistent with the work completed. A substantial amount of work remains unfinished or needs revision. I've attached communication and documents related to my experience so others can review the information directly and form their own conclusions. For clarity, the contract ended due to repeated delays, missed contractual deadlines, and work that inspectors and other licensed professionals documented as not meeting code requirements. These findings were especially concerning to me because my family and guests will be staying in the home. The contractor maintains he was not given time to finish. My records show many delays and reassurances throughout the project, and significant work remains incomplete. From my perspective, he was given multiple opportunities to complete the work that had been paid for in full 10 months ago, specifically the electrical upgrade and full window installation. Fred built us beautiful builtins, redid our kitchen and our bedroom, put in a projector for our media room, ran ethernet cables throughout our walls, solved drainage problems in the basement (simply and quickly!), sub-contracted and managed workers to install HVAC in our house and install new garage doors, put in radiant floor heating, pulled a rotting floating dock out of our pond and rebuilt it, and even put together our outdoor hot tub for us. When workers came to replace our gutters and botched the job he got them to come back and address the issue until the gutters worked perfectly. I've yet to find a job he can't do or find the right sub-contractor for (and then manage them to get the job done). His work is beautiful, and he often has thoughts on better ways to do things than what we thought we wanted. Freds availability to manage work is particularly amazing because his work is on our vacation home where we are not frequently present. I wish I could clone Fred so he could work on our city place as well.

Fred Kopilak, with custom cabinet experience and a complete skill set, turned out to be just the kind of contractor we wanted. Fred's work was excellent and well thought out. We ended up with a kitchen that exceeded our expectations. His suggestions provided us with a finished product that is unique and truly outstanding. The work was done on schedule and on budget. A final word on Fred's character. I feel that being able to rely upon a craftsman's work and integrity is critical to a project of this sort. Fred proved time and time again that he could be trusted and relied upon. He didn't cut corners and delivered a first class finished product.

I was pleased to learn about Marty and HV Handyman from a Yelp review, and even more pleased that the review was written by someone from Yelp I actually know in person. Marty is professional yet casual, a nice combination. He was always quick to get back to me when I contacted him in advance of the work, always in less than 24 hours. When I initially sent him a description of the work and a photo, he got back right away with his estimates of time and materials, and cost. Along the way, he was proactive when it came to things unexpected or little adds. For example, he discovered rodent damage on some of my electrical wires, and he immediately offered to take care of that. Within an hour, he had gone and returned to the local Home Depot with the extra materials to address the issue, and the add-in to the overall cost was again reasonable. He did 99% of the cleanup as well, leaving me with about 5 minutes of work to wipe off some dust after he completed the spackling, sanding, and painting. Marty also doesn't over-book, and he is again up front with what he can and cannot do. I've already discussed another project or two I'd like him to tackle once warmer weather has returned. I only hope he hasn't been swamped with additional work requests based on positive word-of-mouth and word-of-Yelp.

And I'll be honest, the handyman we usually work with was booked up for months. It actually seemed like all the handymen were. (There's a pandemic out there, and apparently everyone's taking the time to fix up their home.) Marty let me know that he was busy too, and that he was taking some time to spend with his family (and you can't begrudge someone being a good family man). But he was willing to do the work when he was free, which is all we could ask. I also appreciate how he operates. He'd prefer to get photos/video of what the problems were so he can give you an accurate estimate before even setting foot in the place (saves everyone time), and so he can show up with all the materials necessary (saves everyone time and money). His website is also pretty comprehensive; it lists all the things he does, who he is, how he works, and shows work he's done. That's how I found him, and I'm glad I did. I also like that he's willing to admit what he can't do (in our case, it was more involved electrical work). Some folks claim they can do anything, and will do a less than ideal job; Marty will just recommend someone who he's worked with and can vouch for. In any case, we had a few odd jobs that needed doing, and once Marty let me know when he was available, he was on time, and efficient. He did quality work. I thought the pricing was fair for his time and labor, and I would hire him again. That's really all you can ask from a handyman.

Not only did they use the wrong…read morescrews that actually punctured the metal at the peak and caused leaks along the entire length of the roof. They also installed the transition from metal roof to shingles in a way that it caused a leak that can't be fixed without re-doing the entire roof. You get what you pay for - the lower cost comes at a price of workmanship. Stay away if you want to protect your house!

They worked fast and did a good job, but there…read morewere a few problems, one being that they failed to shingle all parts of the roof that were included in the contract, which reads "Remove existing roofing down to wood decking from entire house sloped roof areas only". The two areas not done do not have steep slopes, yet they are certainly sloped. Since I do not go on the roof, I did not see this failure for awhile. I didn't think anything of it when there were 10-15 packs of shingles left over, until later when I saw that these areas had not been done. In addition, the ceiling in a room upstairs goes up to the roof and many, many roof in jails came through it. Eventually I hired someone else to cut all of the nails off. I called and sent pictures twice. The woman that I spoke with said hat she would forward everythIng to Fred and he would get in toush with me. It has been months and I have had no response. My husband passed away in November of 2023 and I am dealing with many things that are new to me. I feel somewhat taken advantage of.

We hired Arnold to replace our interior doors, door and window trim and baseboard. We asked him if…read morehe would be able to be complete for the painters who were scheduled to begin 3 weeks later and he agreed. We are now 8 weeks past that deadline and still not complete. He is also no longer answering calls or text messages. He damaged some of the freshly painted walls adjacent to the trim he installed and the paint was not applied appropriately to cover his patch. The trim in 3 door openings is not level or plumb and the doors are sticking- brand new doors are sticking!!! One door cannot be installed as the door frame he installed is 1-1/2" out of level. We asked for 1x4 finger jointed pre-primed pine trim for all door and window trim and 1x6 finger jointed pre-primed pine trim for he baseboard. To save money he used common pine boards with major knots and holes in them. We needed him to finish the install so that we wouldn't lose our spot in the painters schedule, so we agreed that he could install it if he caulked all the holes and painted it so the knots didn't show through. He didn't do that. He used different trim that doesn't match what we asked for on the first floor of our home because he said it would allow him to go faster and it was similar width to what we wanted. We agreed, again, to get him to finish before the painters. He didn't finish before the painters and now our walls were damaged when he was installing, caulking and painting the trim. DO NOT USE THIS GUY.
