Many, many years ago I purchased my first bonsai, a Shohin Maple. I managed to keep this poor tree…read morealive for close to three years with consistent water regimen and beginners luck. Sadly, after the three year mark things took a turn for the worse and it died. I was devastated and disheartened but still intrigued and continued to visit local bonsai shows in my area. In April of 2016 I attended one such local show and found myself in a discussion with the grower of a beautiful cascading juniper. His name was Ron Anderson. I was excited to learn that he offered classes in the care and art of bonsai. I bought the Juniper on the spot , signed up for my first class in his 3.5 year program and the rest, as they say, is history. Ron is a brilliant teacher and an all-around great guy. He is patient and incredibly knowledgeable, with an impressive ability to adeptly communicate with students of all levels. My experience under his tutelage has gone from total beginner to commanding a strong understanding of the basics in bonsai maintenance: how trees work, how bonsai works, bonsai styles, pots, displaying trees, equipment, basic care, seasonal maintenance, tasks and troubleshooting. The more I learn the more I realize how much more there is to learn. We meet once a month to work on all types of trees, ranging from very immature bonsai to more mature, finished trees of all types: coniferous, deciduous, evergreen, flowering and so on. The groups are small and friendly and Ron never fails to serve a delicious lunch. I have become close with many of the other students in the program and getting together with the whole group is always a great time. Ron has trees, tools and soil mixes for purchase. I cannot recommend Ron and his bonsai school strongly enough. It has absolutely been a life changing experience.

Awesome bonsai and very nice and helpful owners. Lots of classes offered also! Bonus a sweet garden…read morekitty accompanied us on our walk.

I've gone to several hydro stores in and around Sacramento. With out fail, I can predict the responses I get. Overall, it comes down to either disinterest, attitude, or feeling like I'm stupid. This is just about everywhere except Greenfire. It doesn't matter who is at the counter, as soon as I walk in, they greet me and make me feel welcome. Everyone is extremely helpful, and best of all there isn't any 'I'm better than you' type attitudes! I love going to Greenfire because I get so much from my visits. I actually feel more informed, and educated when I leave. The Greenfire staff take the time to talk with me and discuss how things work, or why this piece is better than that one. That type of customer service is rare and hugely appreciated. I've also found that Greenfire's prices are very reasonanle, and I'd say, most likely, the best in town. They have a customer loyalty card that gives increasingly higher discounts with each purchase, and once you reach the top tier, you're entered into a (I think) weekly drawing for prizes. Let's just say Greenfire is very liberal with the discounts, and even do what they can to make some higher cost items more reasonable. Bottom line...I can't recommend Greenfire enough. If you're into hydroponics, have questions, are just ciurious, or are completely knowledgable, Greenfire is where you want to get your hydro supplies. They have it all! Thanks guys, you are very much appreciated.

This is one of the few traditional style hardware stores that you will find anymore that will instantly remind you of the ones you went to with your parents as a child. Great customers service. Friendly employees that are helpful and actually know what they are talking about. Great selection and quality products. Fast service and no long lines! Products from A-Z! If you need it they probably will have it at least that has always been the case for me. I am a huge fan of businesses, employees and owners that "get it", especially small local businesses. And Rio Linda Hardware & Building Supply "get's it" they care about offering good quality products at competitive prices with helpful friendly customer service. Next time you need something for that next project or repair give them a call or stop in you'll be pleasantly surprised.
