This library is tucked into an unexpected neighborhood near a playground and has a lovely little lawn out front where I saw some people relaxing in the sun. The meeting rooms (where the class was located) are open, airy and have plenty of light through the expansive windows. The book selections inside, as well as their library of things (puzzles, games, etc), felt very broad, something for everyone. They also have a large collection of books for sale (3 for $1 is a steal). The staff are veryhelpful with any questions and quick to help diffuse any disturbances (a patron was asked to leave and it was handled quickly, orderly and well) so that anyone needing that quiet space can continue to read or study can do so.

Located directly on E. 10th St. and in between N. Market St/N. King St in the heart of downtown Wilmington, Delaware, this library is located in the historic Rodney Square District. Hours of operation are Thursday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm and Friday and Saturday, Monday-Wednesday from 9:00am-7:00pm. I came here during the afternoon of Friday 10/10/2025 at around 3:15pm. Parking was fairly accessible as I was able to park my rental car directly outside (with paid parking meters). Once inside, you will notice just how spacious this library is. They have various sections that includes a dedicated children's area, a teen zone, local historical research, meeting rooms, and a very generous section for checking out books, audio books, and DVD rentals. Since I specifically needing to log online, I took the elevator to the 2nd floor to their computer lab. Once there, I explained to the librarian that I needed to use a computer and after providing basic contact information, I took care of what I needed and was on my way. Overall, the "Wilmington Public Library" is one of two libraries in the Wilmington area (the other being the North Wilmington Branch on N. Market St). This area is convenient, quiet, and took care of the services that I needed. With that said and done, I am giving this library an above average four stars.

The structure itself is beautiful but getting into the parking lot is tricky. The logical turn to enter the parking lot doesn't really take you to the librarys parking lot and there is no signage that could say "not this parking lot here, keep going straight and THEN turn in here" Inside there was plenty of lounge seating including a really cool bench that wrapped around a big column (someone should take a pic, I forgot) but the computer area was cramped. I found the books I was looking for with ease but honestly the real disappointment was the DVD collection. It could have been great but I'll never know because you can't simply browse the titles by scanning quickly with your eyeballs. No, the DVDs are in rows one in front of the other so you have use your fingers to flip through each stack to see exactly what is there and this includes multiple copies of the same title. Who has time for that????

**** This library has MOVED to 464 S Old Middletown Rd…read more **** I visited the new location yesterday and started a new Yelp page for the new location yesterday. I also reported the old location closed yesterday, and added tips to announce the new location on both the old and new pages... but then today, Yelp MOVED MY PHOTOS to the listing for the old address. Odd, isn't it? Repeatedly these things happen to me on Yelp, and repeated reach-outs to the local Yelp woman go un-helped. I work hard to contribute to Yelp and it's clear that my input isn't valued at all by Yelp. So this is for the legit users who care about my attempt at helpful content... The new location of Middletown Free Library is now near Wayside Market, and Bortondale, the former Penn-DOT DMV. Currently, you need to look for signs for Roosevelt School, because there is not even a temporary banner of signage indicating that the library is here. When you pull in, make sure to drive to the rear of the Roosevelt School on the right of the school (from the road). Look for the book deposit box, and the entrance is there. Again, signage is still in the works. This is the brand new space, much larger than the old one. I was speaking with the librarian at the circulation desk and we guesstimated that the whole 2 floors of the old location could fit in the ground floor of the new space! But, the new place has a second floor, currently under renovation, so it will be drastically larger than the former space. The children's area is separate from the main library space, with a glass wall to keep sound contained. This was great at story time with Mr. Jason, because the kids had their own place to be themselves. Singing, banging on drums, bubbles, etc. After story time, extra toys came out, and my toddler had a ball. Mr. Jason really gets into his stories, and the kids can't help but become as enthusiastic as he. On the way out, the librarian had chocolates and candy canes to give us, which was so sweet. I took tons of pictures of the new space but Yelp seems to have a problem with that, so you'll have to check the old page for the DOZENS of pictures they moved. I don't have time for the bs anymore.

The only issue is that Google Maps will take you to the wrong entrance (next to the fire station). Instead, you have to take the next exit and drive around. There is a small lawn sign for the library, which is easy to miss, but if you see the school, the library is on the backside, so just drive around. You won't regret it!

While the building might not hold a huge collection, the new book section is extensive and books on hold arrive fairly quickly from the Delaware Library network. I've taken a free craft class here and have send signage for plenty of kid & family friendly free events. The kids section looks large and there's rarely been a visit where I haven't seen some kind of family or kid event going on there so probably a great destination option. Librarians and staff are friendly and helpful and any checkout lines move very quickly. Pro tip: Sign up for their newsletter and you'll get a consistent reminder of all the events they have going!

Not often in my library rotation because I'm closer to the ones in Wilmington but this location is…read morebeautiful and one of the more recently built. It sits inside the also recently built Darley Green Development which make it an awesome addition for the people who live in those townhomes (great idea) but us outside folks are welcome too. The floor plan is very well laid out with clear, bold signage overhead. The DVD is good but a bit awkward to read because they shelve them on their sides so you have to bend your head. This is my third time here and I've only had one problem and that was with a gentleman who refused to let me pay my fine with my debit card because it wasn't signed. He tried to make me sign it with a sharpie. I refused to do that and just came back with cash.

As far as libraries goes, Claymont is pretty solid. It's not a super big library but for it has all…read morethe basics. There's obviously books/magazines, computers, study areas, and even a kids zone. Parking is never an issue when I come here. The staff is really nice and friendly.
