Great experience with Elom! Since I have an upcoming trip planned for New Orleans (where all of the humidity lives), I decided that braids would be the best way for me to avoid the hot mess, frizz express in dealing with my own hair. I'd seen a rave about Elom from someone on another social media channel and then when I looked up Elom on Yelp, I saw that Candyce B and Bianka M both had raves for Elom, so I knew I had to go there! I stopped in the week before I wanted my hair braided just to see how the shop looked and to get a feel of where it was in location to my house. I spoke with a young girl and made my appointment for the following week. I showed her the style I was interested in and asked about price. The day of my appointment, I walked right to a chair. My appointment was for 10 a.m. and I arrived a few minutes before. There were already two other girls in the shop getting their hair braided. To note: the shop opens at 7 a.m. and they provide hair. I decided to get a goddess braids style because I didn't want that many braids in my hair and I didn't want to sit that long for my 'do. I was out of the shop a few minutes before 11 a.m. It was a breeze! Although I must admit, I forgot how tight fresh braids are the first few days of having them done. Don't bother asking how much a style is before it's completed because, chances are, it's going to change. A week ago, I asked the young girl about pricing and she told me $50. Once I was done, the woman who did my hair, charged me $30. Not complaining but you can tell there's no consistency nor rhyme or reason to their pricing. RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!!!! DO NOT COME HERE. My experience was so bad, I was not motivated to let them make it up to me. My braider MIRIAM (avoid her at all cost) didn't know how to achieve the look I wanted. And I told them to not let her touch another head. Wanted braids for vacation. There were SO many signs this wouldn't end well and I didn't take heed. The first was that she wasn't going to wash my hair before working on it until I asked $10 upcharge. Then they had very crappy shampoo. No decent stylist would be caught dead with this dollar store shampoo. Next, I asked her how long she had been working here. Her response? "I'm in and out" .....awww hell. Then she sits me under the dryer BEFORE any detangling. This kitchen is not built for that. This is when I developed true concern for my mane. It's also here where I blame myself because I should've left. Move back to the chair and she tried to comb from the outside in. I literally told her 5x you have to detangle from the Ends and go in. It was a complete nightmare. It hurt so badly. The actual braiding was just as bad. After getting specific instructions to leave the edges free.... don't worry about them, she got them anyway much to my dismay. Last, but not least my hair didn't look good. And she slopped some gel on the edges for who knows what. This was easily the worst hair experience of my life. Miriam, while extremely kind -which is what made it so difficult-, cannot do hair. Choose another place. Trust your instincts and leave when you feel the stylist doesn't know what she's doing. I took my hair out the same day. My hair came out with it. This was $70 down the drain. These biotin keratin pills are helping that bald spot. I paid someone else 2x as much for a new do the next day. read more

I'm so grateful I found Elom's!!! A quick search online led me here and when I called to make an appointment I was impressed with the level of professionalism. They asked what service, what time I wanted to come in, let me know that the hair was included, thanked me for calling in and said they looked forward to seeing me for my appointment. When I arrived two very friendly braiders were waiting and we started immediately. As the day went on it seemed like everyone who came in was like family, customers and braiders all greeted each other with warm hugs and smiles. And man are these ladies fast!!! I don't know how they do it!! I was finished in record time and very pleased with the quality of work. When they were done I got a hug and some compliments and there's really no better way to end a day at the shop. Prices are reasonable, the hair is included and they are just an awesome group of ladies! This place is the best. I found out about it via a fellow Elite here on Yelp who I messaged & inquired about her experience. Her response prompted me to give them a try, I started by taking my teenage daughter. Elom herself was there & once we entered for her appointment we were greeted with smiles & she was immediately taken back to the bowl for her wash. I was taken aback initially because she wasn't finished in the projected 5 hour timeframe provided when my husband & I left. It actually took 7 hours & 30 minutes which is pretty long however after seeing her hair I was impressed as it was sooo neat & professional. Later after research I learned that due to the size of her Sengelese twist & length that this timeframe is common. I decided to go back 3 weeks later to get my hair done however I explained that I am 9 months pregnant & I can not & will not sit that long so I don't want mine that thin. The ladies ensured me that I wouldn't & low & behold I arrived at 7:30am & was walking out the door with my hair complete by 10:45am which was AMAZING. On November 10th I Went in and got extended kinky twist. The front looks great, which is where one lady braided & the back looks HORRIBLE which is what the other lady braided so I can only wear my hair in certain styles cant wear them down. Also some of my real hair was cut when going over braids with scissors. $160 was definitely NOT well spent. I will never return. read more

I hardly ever write bad reviews but please beware of this shop! I found this shop on Google and thought I would patronize it based on the reviews. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I received a phone call and text early in the morning that I can have my hair braided around noon or so after conversing with who I assume is a manager/owner the night before and sending pictures of the style I wanted. There was an older lady working when I arrived who is flat out rude, condescending and honestly not that great of a braider. She was snarky to the lady who was there before me by skimming off an extra couple of dollars to up the price of the service of the customer's hairstyle and laughed it off while mumbling under her breath to "just pay and go". Secondly, the older lady told me after sitting in the chair that she is not capable of doing the style I wanted and flat out wasn't going to attempt to either. Before I could ask what style she is capable of doing she walked in the back and never came back out. Too bad she didn't realize that English is NOT the only language spoken in the US and understood the comments of her talking about me in French. Once I left I received more calls and texts from the lady that I had originally spoken to. Didn't understand the point of telling me to come in just to tell me to reschedule. Unless I am going to be reimbursed for the waste of gas I will never use their services. Sucks that I was going to refer 4 other relatives so they missed out on making at least $1000 that week. Let me get straight to the point. Staff friendly but skills are horrible. I went in for crochet. Explained want knot technique I wanted. Now my first warning should have been when she cornrowed my hair straight back and gave me a center part that I didn't ask for and its crooked to top it off. She did the first piece and asked if shoulder length was okay. I said yes. Once she was done I had hair down my back. I had no idea that my hair was that long as I never faced the mirror. It was not until she was done and handed me the mirror when I saw the length of my hair. Now this is when it gets good. She pulled hair back in ponytail. I paid and tipped generously. She gave me a clip board to complete a survey and I gave a good review. I ran some errands what home to sleep then awoke to prepare to go out. As I was separating my hair to do my thing I noticed that I DID NOT have a full head of crochet!!! I was missing lots of hair on the sides and in the back of my head. I will never go back. Everyone was very nice and I loved that two women were braiding my hair when another braider is available. Jusitne and Chantel kept asking me if I was ok and comfortable. As soon as I walked in I was taken to select my braid size and hair color. Feel comfortable with telling them if your trnder headed, they will do what they can to make you comfortable but will do what is necessary to give you the best resluts. I was very pleased with my microbraids. As a retired stylist myself, this is the first time that I received the quality of work that I wanted and the price was very reasonable. The work was professional, the staff were friendly and and accommodating. They were very considerate of my time. I did not spend all day in there and my hair was neat and full. I did not expect to be serviced yesterday as a walk-in late afternoon, but I'm so glad I did. Lied about the $160 price for Senegalese twist over the phone. One i told the girl what i wanted the price went up. She showed me the smallest size and i said no the next size up. That's $180! Huh? I then asked for cornrows after sitting in the chair for 20 mins and nothing done yet, and it was $140 but she could do for $120, for a style that doesn't even take an hour and a half to complete. No thank you! I'll get a flight to Jersey next weekend for the same hair style for a lot less. No need to lie about anything. It it what it is! They get you in the salon and change the prices. If i was told there was a range i would've never taken the time to drive there. There are many salons in Gastonia where i am currently visiting. This is not a business i would ever support. *****Update the actual manager of Eloms reached out to me and apologize for how his contractors handled the situation. He made every effort to make it right- despite the fact that there isn't much you can do considering I now have a bald spot. He did refund my money including three large, now discovered, undeserved tip the original contractor (the lady did my hair). Also, the woman named Clementine is very nice, very polite,.and was the only contractor who to find resolution and apologized for my bad experience. Unfortunately she was not the one who actually did my hair so there was very little she could do, but she did try to make it right before the actual manager was called in. Clementine is the only hairdresser I would try from this location ever again Ive visited twice to have my hair braided- a style I wear every summer. The first experience was okay- a few braids came out within a week but I let that go. I went back yesterday and had the braids redone. I specially told her to NOT braid my baby hair because braiding too tightly on baby hair pulls it out. Sure enough, that SAME night a braid came out and pulled my hair out with it. I now have a very LARGE BALD SPOT!! I returned to the shop the very next day with the braid and my hair that was pulled out and showed them by bald spot. They tried to tell me that was a braid that came out and didn't contain any of my hair! I know my hair, it was obviously not the braid hair they use. Im biracial and my hair is very fine and curly. They were straight lying and then "hid" my hair that had been pulled out, picked up some extension texture hair from the floor underneath another chair ( yes I WATCHED them do this) and tried to tell me that was my hair that was pulled out that I handed them. I mean really. Luckily I took pictures. Then when I asked for the owner's number they refused to provide it. They offered no recourse to fix the fact that they damaged my hair! Worst ever. I will never return. And I will report them to the better business bureau for not me to view their license or get their manager or owners contact info to file my complaint. If you want to see pictures I will attach them to thier Facebook ( which im sure they will remove but then Ill try yelp. I will put it out there what they've done even tough they tried to manipulate and lie rather then just apologize and make any attempt to fix). Absolutely unethical and its a shame, because some of the stylists are very nice and professional. THE BEST!! I never write reviews, however after my experience at Elom's Hair Braiding, I believe this place deserves all of the business here in Charlotte & the surrounding areas. They were very kind & welcoming & made me feel right at home. The process only took approximately 3 hours, most of that time I spent on my phone so it really didn't seem long at all. I love the fact that I could select the hair texture which best fit my interest and more importantly, they take their time to catch every single strand of hair, you better believe my head was at attention later on that night before bed lol. Also I'm super duper tender headed, but they made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. Don't feel discouraged about the prices, trust me, it's well worth the money. I'm extremely satisfied with my braids, I'm looking forward to bringing my little girls this weekend as well as referring all of my friends & family. Every moment I step out the house I'm responding to endless compliments in which I just can't get enough of. So not impressed with this place. I got box braids and they took about 6 hours which isnt bad. What is bad is that two weeks later, about 1/3 of my braids have fallen out, another 1/3 are loose and close to coming out. Mind you, I was advised these braids should last 2-3 months. I recently visited Elom's on N. Tryon St. I got my appointment on the same day I called. The stylists there were friendly. I went there for the Goddess braids but my hair was too short in the back for this style. I was shown another style in corn rolls that I liked. I was amazed at the finished product. The stylist did an excellent job. I am very satisfied and so is my husband. I have gotten so many compliments and I knew that I would because of the beautiful style.Thanks, I have not been this pleased in a long time. Please save yourself the experience I had a couple of days ago. I have been a loyal customer for a year. The first time my daughter went a braider name Adele did her box braids. My daughter is tender headed and actually went to sleep as Adele braided her hair. I was impressed. Pricing was very reasonable; and the braids looked great. I have been back a couple of other times to get Goddess braids. Besides a couple of times where I couldn't get a convenient appointment my experiences have been ok. Fast forward to a couple of days ago. I called the number on google and a lady answered told me to call another number. So the business number is not the number that they have listed on google I am assuming. I asked about some cornrows with hair for my tween daughter was told 40.00. When I arrived we sat for awhile as the braider finished another clients hair. I needed to run an errand so I proceeded to speak with the braider and show her a picture of cornrows I wanted. Just didn't want straight back looking prison braids in her hair and asked that she part it with a little swoop. She started saying those are not the cornrows that she thought and unless they are straight back like sew in braids it was $100.00 because " they are not easy." Puzzled because I am sure a cornrow is one of the first braids you learn after you plait when you are like 7 years old. I don't know how a "professional" could say they are difficult. The male manager then went to talk to the braiders and one was refusing the other said that since I was already there and was told that price that she would do them for 60.00. I told him that was fine. He then goes back to ask her how long they will take. And she says she's not or can't doing them. The male manager then begins to get upset and they go back and forth with him calling them "unprofessional." He apologized and then said I could go. We left with my daughter's hair still undone. I completely agree that this whole encounter was completely unprofessional. They need to go back and find Adele and beg her to return to their business because these girls are ghetto. We headed over to the new braid shop off Freedom Alexis Braiding and they took great care of us. The same quality and reasonable pricing that the old Elom's used to offer. read more
