This is an amazing library. It was recently renovated and they really got it right. I spent time in the kids area with my grandkids. We first saw an aquarium and then a couple of frogs named Mac and Cheese. The kids got a kick out of watching the fish. Then we walked through the run archway into the children section. Lots of books at kids height. Easy for them to look at and choose. There are multiple playing/learning stations. They played with Legos, trains, a mini kitchen, color boards and dinosaurs. They picked books out and sat on the variety of comfy chairs. We had so much fun learning about different things while waiting out the rain. Great place to bring kids of all ages.

Beautiful library that's great for the weekends to just sit in and relax/read by the indoor fireplace!

So many neat tools for use!

Absolutely delighted with the helpful staff, diverse materials and unique events put on by the dedicated & enthusiastic children's library team at Elmhurst Public Library!! Special shout out to Kathy, Lori and Nuala. Wonderful librarians! Update: The new Makers Space is so cool!! We learned how to use several of the machines and made awesome vinyl transfers and bumper stickers! There were 3 staff members helping out. It is a super tidy and well-stocked space. Elevator access. Awesome experience today in the Makers space! Thank you Librarians for helping us!

This used to be my go to place during middle school and high school! I loved it! There so many computers, printers, study rooms and study tables available. I also spend majority of my last summer here studying for an exam. I love how the upper level is quiet and spacious. Great place to focus and get work done! Honestly a much better place to get work done compared to coffee shops! And if you are craving coffee they also have a coffee shop downstairs and it's really good!! If you are around the neighborhood and have some time to chill I definitely recommend stopping by our library to relax with a fun book or get work done! P.S. There is a huge free parking lot for the library and it's also right by the Elmhurst Metra stop.

The Elmhurst Library is a great resource for our community. They are on the cutting edge of technology - even the returns are automated! The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They have a drive-up drop-off AND pick-up. Typically, I go online to reserve a book and just pick it up from the drive-thru. Makes my life very easy! They have a large children's center with plenty of free activities. They also have a Sale room where older books are sold for just $1 (I've found plenty of gems in there!). The library staff has even purchased a book for me when they couldn't find it at any of their partner libraries - you can't ask for more than that! Parking can be difficult when it's busy but they allow overflow parking at the Art Museum next door.

"Without libraries what have we? We have no past and no future." -Ray Bradbury Seriously, have you visited the Elmhurst library lately? If you are long overdue for a trip to the library, prepare to be AMAZED. A few library highlights: 1) The librarians are friendly and are excited to help you research topics, find books and other sources of information. They are also very computer savvy and can help you with your Kindle or other technology. 2) They have a drive through book drop off and window where you can pick up materials without entering the library (must request drive through pick-up in advance). 3) Self checkout and return kiosks!! Kids love returning books and watching the kiosk "eat" them. Think Redbox return, but for books. 4) FREE movie rentals!!! 5) Summer reading program with prizes for children and adults. 6) It just feels good...lots of sunshine, hardwood floors, high ceilings. It's warm and welcoming just like the librarians. 7) Coffee shop, study rooms, etc... 8) If they don't have the book or movie, they will request it from another library and notify you by email once it has arrived! "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss

Does this library allow you to play tabletop games, and if so can you bring your own?

Yes you can! If you're a resident, you can reserve a study room or meeting room for a private gaming experience or if you're not you can snag a table in the cafe area or upstairs for an open experience. You can also check out board games to take… Read more

Worst Library I have ever been to in my life. Not a place of learning and study…read more I was using one of the library's computer monitor to use a a second monitor to study. A Mr. Ejez Khan walked up to me shaking his head like a disapproving father stated You cant do that! I ask him Excuse me sir but who are you? He said i am part of the library staff and I then informed him that i was given permission by library staff that I could use the monitor. He asked me who gave me permission and I said I dont need to give you that information. He then brings the library director Sue Madorin who asked me the same question and I pointed to the gentlemen sitting behind the desk near the computer lab. She then pushed me back off to Mr. Khan who was then introduced as the IT supervisor. He said I couldn't use the monitor for that purpose so I got up and left. The director approached me again and says I dont want you to feel uncomfortable I explained to her that Mr. Khans approach was unprofessional and uncalled for and proceeded out of the library. The head of the oak brook village calls me and basically stated that no one gave me permission to use the monitor. I asked him about the way that Mr. Khan approached me and he stated that thats not what his staff told him. Its funny that he would say this because to my knowledge the only person that could hear the initial exchange between Mr. Khan and I was the gentleman who gave me permission in the first place. May I add that in the library is a cell phone free zone Mr. Khan was on his cell phone talking while in the library How did I know because he was 10 feet from me. Its good to see "staff" of the library not following rules that are posted everywhere in the library.

The group using the room prior to them left half-eaten sushi in the trash can, causing the room to smell strongly of fish. To help with the odor, my daughter's tutor, who is also a Glen Ellyn resident, placed the trash can partially in the doorway to keep the door slightly open for ventilation. An employee described as taller with dark hair approached them and stated that it was "policy" that the trash cans had to remain inside the room with the door closed. When the tutor explained the odor issue, the employee returned with a bottle of Febreze and sprayed it directly in their direction inside the enclosed study room, then placed the sushi-filled trash can back inside the room and shut the door again while reiterating that the door had to remain closed. My daughter became physically ill after the session and vomited when she got home. Regardless of intent, spraying a scented chemical irritant into a small enclosed space without asking the occupants was inappropriate and unprofessional. More concerning is that the obvious solution -- simply removing or emptying the trash containing rotting food -- was ignored in favor of masking the smell with spray fragrance. This situation demonstrated poor judgment, lack of customer care, and an unnecessary escalation of a simple sanitation issue.
