This library is wonderful for children. Toddler classes, baby classes, crafts, and so much more. Comparing to Elmhurst kid section, Villapark library has iPads for the young ones to explore. Adorable seating. Blocks, puzzles, and more. I hope they can expand it bigger and better. read more

I come here all the time cause I love to read. Plus I live a couple blocks away. I put books and movies on hold all the time. And I love to just browse everything too. Sometimes they books and magazines on sale for .25 or .50 cents on tables when you enter/exit. During the summer time they have a reading program for adults and kids and every year its a different theme like cooking or mystery. They have different things going on every day like game boards and magicians for the kids. They have a lot activites for adults and kids as well. The staff can help you with anything. But there is this one lady-I dont know her name-that always has an attitude. Shes the only one I dont like at all. They do have computers that you can use for free for 2 hours but you have sign up for computer privlages and have a library card and a password. They also have free wifi so if you have a laptop bring it if you want. They also have tables and chairs and couches to sit and read and relax. Its a really nice library and I love coming here. read more

I just moved to Villa Park from California so VP Library is brand new to me. It's still undergoing its renovations but I've found it to be a great local resource. The staff was extremely friendly when I inquired about a library card and gave me tons of information about the programs offered. I've attended a babies and books group and found it to be excellent. The staff was so friendly and provided a structured, engaging program. I haven't yet attended other programs but I am excited to try out trivia night and one of the book clubs as well. I've also used the inter library loan as well as hoopla audiobooks app quite a bit so it doesn't really matter to me if VP has the item I want or not because I can easily get it if they don't. read more

Villa Park Library is undergoing a complete renovation. It's not quite fair to compare Villa Park library with Elmhurst library. Economically the towns are quite different.The new library is being modernized to the new standards for libraries across the nation, that being a community center for much more than just books. All residents have had multiple opportunities to voice exactly what they want in a library of today. It was put on the ballot as a referendum and the people voted for the renovation. So Be patient, it is worth the wait. The following is the latest update as of July 8, 2019 copied from their website: JULY 8, 2019 BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE! July 11, 2019 July 8, 2019 Update This week marks the one year anniversary of the start of construction on the library building. The first phase included new connections to water and sewer, new storm drains, new parking lot, three new rooftop HVAC units, new bathrooms, lighting, and the new elevator near the new entrance and stairway. This past April, staff and patrons moved into the new addition so work on renovating the existing building could begin. The second phase is well underway with Wight Construction removing the old roof, boilers, and air handlers, and installing the new roof, storm drains, seven additional rooftop units, and windows. This past month, the new study rooms, youth program room, and quiet reading room are taking shape. We had hoped to have more landscaping completed this past spring but a very wet May blocked progress on that front. However, plantings are now slated for later this summer/early fall. As construction winds down this August and September, we will be gearing up for moving our collections into their new locations. Be sure to check for updates on our web site as summer progresses. To mark the completion of the project, the Library Board will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening Celebration to be held on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This date has special significance with the original 1969 building being dedicated on that same date fifty years ago. I must admit, it's been quite sometime since I've been to a library now that I'm not in college anymore. However, I recently stopped into the VP library because I needed to print something in color, and don't have a printer at home (I should work on getting one). The library is in the middle of a busy street, so sometimes it can be hard to get in and out, depending on which direction you're coming from/going in. In the entrance, they have a bunch of books and dvds that are for sale at a very low price, sometimes under a dollar. Not the best selection, but hey. It's cheap. I had never been to this library before since I'm a new Villa Parkian (-ier? -inite?). I read online that you can use the computers even if you don't have a library card. Sweet! I saw the computers, but I didn't know how this system worked. I asked a woman that wasn't part of the info desk and she told me that there are two express computers that have a 15-min time limit on it that non-cardholders can use. No chairs for you. You must stand. Both were taken, so I sat on the bench nearby waiting my turn. Finally, I got on. The annoying thing about the computer (or maybe just the express one) is that there is no way to minimize anything. You're on one screen that is the internet, and I didn't see a way of opening any programs. I downloaded a document that I wanted to print out and made the mistake of minimizing it while I looked for something else online. Then I couldn't find it. I had to reopen the document and keep it open on the screen until I was done. Black and white printing is 10 cents a page and color is 50 cents. When you print, you have to wait for another screen to pop up, saying that you agree to pay for your print job and that it will disappear in 4 hours if you do not retrieve it. Once you click OK, you go over to the printers on the other side of the computers, click on your computer name (Express something or other), click on the print job, insert money, click again, and it prints. Make sure you know the name of the computer you were at so you don't print someone else's job. The staff can be helpful, but they're a little cranky. I was trying to be light-hearted when asking for help because I didn't know how to do the print stuff, and the woman helped me, but seemed kinda grumpy about it and didn't smile at all. Also, some old man was having trouble with the internet and his email. He called out for help, and the woman just stayed seated, telling him that it should work and basically, he wasn't doing something right, but didn't bother to help him. I like libraries and supporting them, but I don't know that I would use the VP library if I didn't have to. I miss my Oak Lawn library. read more

I was studying in one of the study rooms. Of course I wanted to be there till end of the day and would definitely leave if there is someone waiting for the room because any person can only reserve the room for 2 hrs max. But if there is no one waiting for the room I should be allowed to continue like how it is in any other public library. The lady came up and asked me to vacate immediately just because I crossed the 2hrs. So basically they would rather have the room empty than letting a person use it who needs it !!!!!!!!! Really bad bad bad!!!!!!!!!!! I started to go to the library in another town and they let me use it as long as there is no one waiting for the room!!!!!!! read more

I kind of feel bad for VP library. Compared to Elmhurst it's small, dark, old, and dingy. Elmhurst used to be like that but they built a new library building a few years ago and it's amazing. They have some toys and puzzles in the kids' section. They also have story time. It just can't compare to Elmhurst. Hopefully Villa Park will be able to build a new, bigger library. read more

I come to the library once a week to tutor, but also bring my children here to check out books and occasionally attend storytime. Their children's section is sorely lacking to neighboring towns. Not much for the kids to do compared to the Addison or Elmhurst library or even Bolingbrook where my mom lives. There are not many computers, no IPADS and there is no imaginative play area for the kids. The librarians are not super helpful either and the children's storytime could be improved. They are not very enthusiastic about storytelling or reading. There are only two study rooms, which can be a problem. read more

This place is a joke. I haven't been here in about two years, so I was expecting to see what I saw two years ago, which was tables and tables for people to plug in phones and lap top chords and do their work. There used to be individual desks so people could have their own space while reading, doing work, or on a laptop. I walked in here today to find essentially a bunch of chairs facing each other (how comfortable to read with no table in front of you while being right next to another stranger). There are tables, but most of them are just tables (with no places to plug in electronics) that are located far away from outlets to plug in electronics. I walked around the whole library and only found four tables in the whole library that have outlets attached to them, and two of these are smaller tables upstairs for children. This place has basically made it very unfriendly for younger folks to study comfortably. I don't understand why they have Wi-Fi if there are only maximum 30 public computers in the whole place (these are including the ones for children only). They make it very hard for someone with their own electronics to use the Wi-Fi. I will make the longer drive to Helen Plum, where there are multiple areas to sit where an individual can have space and plug in their electronics. I can understand that they are under renovation, however they continue to beg for tax money for improvements when just a few years ago they had plenty of tables and public computers. I wonder where these resources have gone, and why have they been hidden from the public, who paid for these things. Just a few years ago, this place was a fully functional library that could provide resources to many people at any given time, after they started begging for more tax money, it become a place where there is limited seating, public computers, and work space. read more
