Say what you will…read moreabout the NHS - waiting times, appointments etc etc, but actually this is a very efficiently run local service and I've got no complaints. I am not a hypochondriac and only ever visit my GP when I really have to. That said, when I do visit I can make an appointment at a reasonable time of day, within a week. The reception staff are curt, but friendly and will help out rearranging appointments and determining who you need to see for your particular ailment without embarrassment or hassle. The doctors don't appear stressed or overworked (although I'm sure they are). I had travel injections recently and these took less then 10 minutes out of my hectic schedule. Highly recommend for your health it if you live in the Easton/Eastville area.

This centre in Kingswood is a very professional institute that seem to be offering a lot of services. There do however seem to be two different sorts of taker to the alternative healing scene. On one hand you have the more spiritually focused healers (the school from which I came) and on the other you have a more scientific approach grown generally out of a distrust for the current medical system. This centre is the latter, so expect more scientific based stuff than spiritual. That said they do offer some incredible services like Reiki and Hopi Ear Candling. If you have any dis-ease and some spare time - I highly recommend this place.

I am registered with the Fishponds Family Practice, and they are a very good GP set up. With several doctors on at once, I don't mind seeing different doctors each time but it can be arranged to see the same doctor every time if you prefer. It is easier to get an appointment online - you have to register with the practice and apply for an online account which can take a few weeks, but once up and running it is simple - you can even book an appointment over the week which you can't do by phone.

I have always found the staff to be really friendly and helpful and the service I have received has been of a high standard as I would expect from the NHS. The midwife I had during my pregnancy was fantastic and always a call a way when I needed her. My only complaint about the service is you are unable to book doctors appointments in advance, so you have to ring up on the day of the appointment first thing and get whats available. This does have its benefits as you can nearly always guarantee a same day appointment or telephone consultation as long as you ring at 8am, however for less urgent requirements its hard to plan in advance during time off work. They also do late appointments up to 7pm which is really helpful.

It was originally built as a TB hospital in 1921, but, in 1931, had been extended by building 5 more structures. There are plans to downsize this location, but local people have formed a protest group to keep it open as it currently stands, instead of moving parts to Southmead Hospital. As someone who lives near this hospital, and has had to use the emergency facilities, I support keeping Frenchay Hospital as it is now. It's close to the motorways and much easier to get to than Southmead Hospital if you life in this part of Bristol. I received excellent service in my one visit there, and the staff were lovely. They kept me at ease during a trying time and the facilities were surprisingly good. I can't comment on the parking facilities due to arriving via an ambulence. Plus, I can't comment on the food quality due to not staying overnight.

Alternative remedies are finally being shed the light that they deserve and institutions like Bristol Natural Health Service are flying the flag. From reflexology to hypnotherapy there is a wide spectrum of help offered here from quality trained professionals. To list all the services and benefits would take an age but the one that really stood out for me was the allergy testing. Using kinesiology and other techniques they were able to pinpoint specific food groups I had problems with. A few alterations to my lifestyle and I'm feeling much more healthy. No appointment necessary and very welcoming, I highly recommend this place.

Offering a much more comprehensive range of therapies than many other complimentary health centres it's easy to treat The Bristol Natural Health Service as pretty much a one stop shop. I have enjoyed a range of treatments here, from acupuncture to Bowen Technique, always achieving the desired results... restored health and vitality, and an end to pain... always a bonus! The practitioners have always been courteous and genuinely interested in assisting the healing process, always careful to pay attention to the detail. In all cases the therapists I've seen have remembered the ongoing development of my various conditions or complaints without needing to be prompted. But it's the reception staff that have really endeared themselves to me. All mature women, they are really lovely, always warm and devoutly concerned.
