I am registered with the Fishponds Family Practice, and they are a very good GP set up. With several doctors on at once, I don't mind seeing different doctors each time but it can be arranged to see the same doctor every time if you prefer. It is easier to get an appointment online - you have to register with the practice and apply for an online account which can take a few weeks, but once up and running it is simple - you can even book an appointment over the week which you can't do by phone.

I have always found the staff to be really friendly and helpful and the service I have received has been of a high standard as I would expect from the NHS. The midwife I had during my pregnancy was fantastic and always a call a way when I needed her. My only complaint about the service is you are unable to book doctors appointments in advance, so you have to ring up on the day of the appointment first thing and get whats available. This does have its benefits as you can nearly always guarantee a same day appointment or telephone consultation as long as you ring at 8am, however for less urgent requirements its hard to plan in advance during time off work. They also do late appointments up to 7pm which is really helpful.

They are also open on Bank Holidays and any other day that a GP may be closed. They made me feel at home and comfortable which is not easy in my case as Im dental phobic. HOWEVER I have just experienced the worst dental treatment that I have ever had in my entire life. The young female dentist I will call her K took 2 xrays and told me I needed an extraction as tooth had decay under the fillings. Fair enough. She put in 3 injections then 2 minutes later asked if it was numb not at all at least nowhere near the tooth just a bit on my cheek not even the tongue!!! So she put in 3 more injections and I slightly lost feeling in the corner of my jaw again nowhere near the tooth. Then she started to loosen the tooth but when I told her I could feel it she put in another 3 injections Yes we are up to 9 now. And only one side of the tooth was numb! So then she put in another 3 injections and got it right. She told me everybodys anatomy is different! Um yes but I have had extractions and fillings all my life at least 30 different treatments and I have never ever had to have a repeat injection they always work first time Then she decided to take another xray and proceeded to attempt to remove the tooth. She was unsucessful and had to use a drill to separate the roots. Took it out in four pieces. She was very surprised it had 3 roots instead of 2 perhaps she cant read the 3 xrays very well. It took her over an hour to remove this one tooth. Then she gave me a gauze to bite on and took it out 2 minutes later (not sure but I think its supposed to be 20 minutes to stop bleeding anyway I was pouring with blood for 4 hours) and sent me home And do u know what she said to me You are doing really well you can have a sticker! I almost said you are doing really c- perhaps you should return to dental college but I didnt cause I'm a nice person and she was nice to me. The bottom line is 12 Injections, 3 xrays, an hour to remove a tooth and I now have bruising from chin to end of jawline, severe swelling inside my gums, was bleeding for over 4 hours as she cut it so much and never bothered stitching. I am still in pain 3days later. If I were you I wouldn't go to her there I never will ever again. On a positive note I have heard that there are other male dentists there that are excellent.

My friend recently registered, and after he got over the hilarity of the surgery's name, he explained to me just how surprising the surgery is. On the outside it looks a little run down, in need of some TLC and is also situated underneath a giant tower block of flats. However inside the place is clean, the staff are friendly and it is a safe environment to be in - which feels strange after you have found yourself walking into the crypts of the block of flats. The surgery is also ideally placed for discretion, you can approach the surgery form North Street and get spotted by a number of people, but if you are cunning you can approach from one of the side streets where you will only be spotted by the surgeries token 'hang-about'!

Gaywood House surgery is located in the ground floor of Gaywood House on North Street, Bristol. Its…read morea big surgery with about 6 doctors, 2 or 3 nurses and a variety of regular clinics. In contrast with other NHS surgeries, its not too difficult to get an appointment to see the doctor, you can either ring up at 8.30 in the morning for an appointment that day (don't leave it any later though or all the appointment slots will have been taken) or you can book for some late afternoon appointments in advance. If you wish to see a particular doctor you may have to wait a couple of weeks for the exact date and time you want but if you are ill, they wil always see you. The receptionists are always really friendly and helpful.

My heart sank when I went to register and it was 3 weeks before I able to get an appointment with the Healthcare assistant, thinking this would be indicative of the practice. Happily however The Lennard Surgery does offer same day appointments. Phew! There is nothing worse than needing urgent advice and being told you can get an appointment in 2 weeks! It feels a lot cosier inside than other GP surgeries, reminds me more of going to the GP when I was a kid. They have many female GPs which I appreciate as I feel more comfortable with a female doctor. Glad i bit the bullet and re-registered now.

Hubby been trying to get an appointment for a couple of days now.He spoke to a gp via a phone appt…read moreand was told to make a face to face appt as soon as possible.Hes tried online booking no appts tried phoning and was waiting 45 mins before he got through to a receptionist to then be told no appts.What happened to the days you could just phone up anytime of the day and get an appt within a week.Its quite an important issue he needs looked at no urgent enough to warrant same day appt but still pretty urgent.Its just adding to the stress and worry of the ailment which could potentially be life threatening if left untreated.

Registration is a thorough process where you are required to have a full health check before it can be completed. Once you're on the books, however, everything is very simple. Appointments are made either over the phone or in person at the surgery and there is an automatic computer check-in when you arrive. You can choose to see the same doctor each time or you can request a different one, if you need to be seen more quickly, for instance. The doctors and other staff are all very friendly and helpful, too. This health centre provides an excellent service for all of the local residents.
