Schillinghaus - Schillinghaus Das Blaue Zimmer

Schillinghaus

The building is secure, with a code to get into the building and to your room. There is a covered parking area that is very near the Schillinghaus entrance, which is on the back side of a dental office. This is not a typical bed and breakfast, as no breakfast is actually served. You are given two, $5 coupons with your choice of three local eateries/convenience stores. You also have a fully functional kitchen in your room. The kitchen has complimentary coffee, chips, soda, water, oatmeal, and crackers. There is a full size fridge, microwave, stove, coffee maker, and other kitchen items in the closet. You must climb stairs to get to your room, but no fear, they will soon be opening a handicap accessible, "white room," which will be ground level. Everything was extremely clean, stylish, and homey. The bathroom has lots of towels, rose petals soaps, and all toilette are stocked - shampoo, body wash, tooth paste, tooth brushes, and floss were all available, as well as a hair dryer. The bedroom had a queen size bed, which was rather hard, but the pillows were heavenly. There is WiFi, which was weak in the room, but functional. There is a TV in the bedroom and living room. There is a shared fitness room - which consists of an elliptical - between two rooms. I am giving Schillinghaus 4 out of 5 stars because it was private, homey, and relaxing, however, you can hear nearby road noise, the bed was not as comfortable as I would like, and the stairs were a surprise. Everything else was absolutely perfect. You have little to no human contact, which was perfect for me. The only reason we saw anyone is they were working outside and we happened to see them as we were leaving. After saying all this, I would definitely recommend Schillinghaus to a friend. In fact, I would love to go back!

We stayed one night in two rooms upstairs (Blue & Green) which were each a full apartment with everything you could need. Fantastic accommodations for our lovely winery tour which was better than Napa! (no traffic and very affordable wineries compared to Napa).

This self service hotel which has been remade from offices and a Lions Club has five rooms - each decorated differently and perfectly. You enter the front door with a passcode and proceed up a wooden staircase to Grandmas room or The Bunkhouse (a rustic favorite) or the Country Room. There are no TVs here but wifi speed is good and strong. The property is under new management when I visited recently on my second stay- and they are helpful, eager to please and friendly in every way. The housekeeper even emailed me to see if there was anything I needed special in my room. They have a large saloon room outfitted with a full kitchen, pool table, leather sofas and a bar. There is plenty of good quality coffee and tea for your morning routine here. But if you wish to reheat some leftovers or your cup of morning joe-bring a coffee mug or a plate as there are only styrofoam cups or metal mugs here that won't go in the microwave. That being said everything else here is pretty much spot on just right! Beds are comfortable, rooms are spotless, spacious, fun and well thought out. I have stayed here twice- once in Grandmas room (which had a washer dryer ) and once in the Country Room. The rooms have ample closet space (more than I have at home). Some rooms have multiple beds and sitting rooms or foyers - all decorated in period Victorian or rustic style depending on which room you are in. Definitely make this a pit stop when in the northern hill country of Texas. Tip: the only breakfast place in St Jo is the Dairy Queen- so bring some breakfast items for yourself when you check in.

My husband was afraid it may be haunted.. and I hear some in town say it is. I did not feel a ghost! Lol The rooms are amazing and the great common area was a pleasant surprise! Beautiful wood floors, big screen tv, pool table and kitchen with a huge bar. This is a perfect hotel to rent for family reunions, bachelor/bachelorette parties, hunters and fishermen! We were there during the week and had this hotel to ourselves.. what a pleasant stay! St Jo is a small Texas town almost 1.5 hours from Dallas and located in the country with beautiful Texas you "expect" to see. There are lakes for fishing, private hunting lands for hunters, wineries and quaint mom and pop restaurants and shops within St Jo and neighboring towns. What I also learned is that it is located in a heavily travelled bike route! It's a great place to stay the night. Texas Kings Hotel is located on the town square. There is a tattoo shop that just opened up next door to the hotel and the wife is adding a grab and go deli, which is going to be great for the hotel guests. I suggest getting out of the city to experience small town charm. We loved it and can't wait to see what the locals do in this small Texas town. Cant wait to stay again!

The property is beautiful and serene, they've absolutely nailed the old world style, and the FOOD--oh my God, I've never had anything like it. We stayed in the Austrian Haus, and splurged on the Ultimate VIP Package, and it was worth every penny. The Room: The Austrian Haus is very roomy and comfortable, with a beautiful old world rustic feel to it. I loved everything about it, ESPECIALLY the spa shower and sauna room. Large, open shower area, and an infrared sauna that my husband and I enjoyed so much, it's got us looking for saunas in our area. We came to Muenster just to stay here, and between that and the late July heat making the outdoors a bit more than we could stand, we ended up lounging around in here for most of our stay. Comfy seating, strong wifi, and satellite TV, so we didn't feel cooped up, at all. Loved it, and I'm seriously torn between a desire to check out some of the other accommodations next time, and just continuing to book this one, because we enjoyed it so much. The Property: Absolutely gorgeous farm, nestled in the woods. The Austrian Haus is right next to the garden, so we had an excellent view of a variety of fruit trees, and rows of vegetables. There are also chickens, goats, and some miniature donkeys nearby. We didn't get to enjoy the outdoors as much as we would've liked due to our brilliant decision to come in the hottest part of the summer, but what we did see was beautiful. I look forward to coming back in a cooler part of the year! The Food: They're serious about the farm to table concept, and it shows! Between that and Marcia's incredible culinary skills, these were honestly some of the best meals my husband and I have ever eaten. You can taste the respect for the ingredients in every bite. Everything on the plate shines, and the vegetables are NOT just sides--we found ourselves enjoying them every bit as much as the meat. Even the salads are so good, they had us scraping the bowl! The homemade cheeses are phenomenal, and have effectively ruined even the Whole Foods cheese counter for me. And the desserts! I didn't end up taking any photos during our 3 course dinner in the manner, but I should have. That apple blueberry crumble pie was INCREDIBLE, as well as beautifully plated. I could go on for paragraphs about the food, alone. If Marcia ever publishes a cookbook, I'll preorder. The Add-Ons: There's a number of different packages to choose from, and we went with the "Ultimate VIP Package", to try a bit of everything. Pricey, but SO worth it! To run through some of the items included in it: 1) The snack basket was fantastic. Things like this usually seem to have a few good items on top, but are mostly so-so filler, after that. Not here! We enjoyed everything in it, including some old favorites we hadn't seen in years. 2) The European chocolates are SO GOOD. I now understand why Europeans think our chocolate is garbage. 3) The farm gift we got was a jar of their delicious pickles! I haven't had homemade pickles like this since I was a kid, and don't tell my grandparents, but these are better. 4) We both got a 70 minute massage each, and I don't think we've felt more relaxed, in our lives. We've now decided these are essential, and are looking into local places. 5) The treasure hunt was wonderful. The clues aren't meant to be difficult, and lead you on a nice tour around the property. Each comes with a question or series of questions that had my husband and I sharing our feelings (big deal for him, given how emotionally constipated he normally is!), reminiscing, and laughing. And at the end, more delicious cookies! 6) That charcuterie board was TOP NOTCH. The homemade cheeses and summer sausage were to die for. 7) The private dinner in the library at the manor was lovely. Very romantic setting, and amazing meal. The People: All were friendly and helpful. The owners are fantastic people. We got to chat with Brad a few times, as he goes out to deliver breakfast trays, himself. We only met Marcia at the Saturday night dinner, and enjoyed hearing about the methods they use to preserve food from summer, to use during the winter (they do as much as they can the way folks did 150-200 years ago, so lost of drying and canning!). The way we scheduled everything, we only got to attend one social hour, but I hope to spend more time chatting with them on future visits. All in all, it was a fantastic experience, my husband and I had a wonderful time and left feeling refreshed and energized, and we've decided we're going to have to make this trip once every year or two, and in different seasons (to try out the different seasonal menus). We really want to see it in the winter! I highly recommend Elm Creek Manor, and look forward to future stays.

I'm quite forgiving when it comes to motels as I prefer them. It's so much easier when travelling…read morewith animals to be able to park at your door and not have to navigate an elderly dog through lobbies and elevators. Plus I don't have to take my items very far from the car to the room itself, so I prefer this convenience over some amenities. I'm even more forgiving when we decided on our destination last minute and it happens to coincide with a holiday weekend, as I know options will be limited. However, next time I'm in the area I will definitely stay elsewhere instead. I mean, never say never, as they may renovate or get new owners, but as it stands now from this experience, I don't think we will be back. First, I was told a King wasn't available to me with a pet (probably carpet only in the available rooms, totally understandable) but that I could have 2 queens. I was fine with this, but those beds were NOT queens. I did notice they had quoted me the same price for a King as 2 queens and this indicates to me that they probably quote most of their rooms the same, so why not be up front that you are getting 2 doubles instead of 2 queens? The price which included a $10 pet fee and taxes was an even $70 per night, very reasonable when travelling with a pet, some places will charge that much for just a pet fee, but a lot of places are $20 per pet per night. Second, as far as I can tell, a family runs this motel and the laundry mat it is attached to. The husband seemed nice on several phone calls and always waved when seeing us in the parking lot. The wife however is extremely rude and dismissive. Not only did she raise her voice at me and hang up on me on the phone when I called to ask a question since their website wasn't working, at check in she was on a personal call the entire time. I couldn't tell when she was talking to me or her personal call and she barely made eye contact with me. She also wasn't going to tell me the total until I asked and didn't give me the wifi password or any information except the key and vague directions. She was extremely unpleasant and a big part of the reason I probably won't return. Who wants to pay you to be rude to them? Third, I am aware that some of the rooms may be in better condition and since this was a pet friendly room, it could have been the last one they had available. This place hasn't been renovated in a good 20 years, cracks in the door, peeling paint, a screw hanging from the ceiling, mismatched furniture, etc but there were also questionable stains and what might have been mildew or mold on the bathroom ceiling and a smoke detector covered in duct tape. The roof had a general look of threatening to cave in and the plumbing was weak. It just had the feel of the most cursory cleaning being done, keep your shoes on. Again, I acknowledge this just might be their oldest room (room 17) and it's that general look of grime that older things have, but I just don't think so. Honestly, for me the outdated appearance means very little, but safety issues and cleanliness very much DO matter. That's the biggest reason I am unlikely to return unless there is some sort of upgrade. I will say the location of this place is the biggest selling point and they advertised special rates for truck drivers and I think I saw on Google that some workers had negotiated weekly rates, so I can see that being a draw if you are just in town to work and find the laundromat to be a big plus. There is a convenience store next door, at one point I saw a food truck there, there is a Sonic next door on the other side and a bakery/gas station two doors down. Across the street (but it is a busy street) is a Mexican restaurant and it's a very short drive to other gas stations and restaurants. It's very convenient in location. As far as being pet friendly, I had to walk to the other side of the property for a single strip of grass behind one of the buildings semi connected to a storage unit and the convenience store. There was another patch around to the front at the very busy road. Considering my elderly dog is blind, this wasn't the easiest situation we've been in with a motel, but we got a routine going. However, I could see this making some customers feel very unsafe so I do want to mention it.

A novel idea is to put enough toilet paper in the room to last more than one bathroom trip. The…read morehalf eaten French Fry on the pillow was also a nice touch. Otherwise a pretty standard hotel for $50.

When we checked into the Veranda Inn, everything appeared clean. We all went to sleep until 5:30 am when my children called me to tell me that there were bugs all over their beds. This was in Room 126. I went and picked up one of the bugs to take to reception. They agreed that it was a bed bug and said Monday morning the regular desk person would give me a refund. She swore that in the year she'd been there they had never had an issue like that before. Based on the fact that the mattresses were in zippered bags and there were tiny bed bugs and big bed bugs I doubted that was true but I let it go. I went and gathered our things to inspect them and placed our luggage in trash bags. We left at 7:30 am unshowered and exhausted. I didn't cause a scene and left thinking they were going to handle things. Instead on Monday I had to call them at 2 to ask what was going on and the receptionist said that they weren't going to give me a refund since they weren't going to charge me a $500 fee for smoking in the room. A blatant lie and the cameras can show him going outside to smoke. He refuses to throw his cigarette butts on the ground and instead brought them inside to the trash can. I've already reached out to the Health Department. Here are the pictures my son took of 6 separate bugs. And the multiple bites my daughter got.
