I found a very sick, abandoned street dog in India in September 2015 and brought him back to the UK…read morein May 2016. His name was Senti. He was a young dog, born in spring 2014, but he had multiple skin inflammations, bacterial infections, a weakened immune system, low energy, and was generally unwell. Abingdon Veterinary Clinic treated the skin condition but failed to investigate underlying causes of his ill health, or even to consider that these might be important. His low energy was similarly not explored. Senti's skin infections did clear up. However, he died of acute renal failure in November 2017, following several days of vomiting, anorexia and lethargy. The emergency vet who saw him diagnosed glomerulonephritis. Glomerulonephritis would have been picked up in any general screening and could have been managed accordingly. To make matters worse, vaccination can exacerbate glomerulonephritis and Abingdon Veterinary Clinic had recommended and administered a vaccination for Senti just 2 weeks previously. The vaccination appeared to trigger a glomerulonephritic crisis, which in turn triggered kidney failure. Abingdon Veterinary Clinic's failure to properly investigate Senti's health concerns led to his premature death. I do not recommend this clinic. If you are looking for a holistic vet or if you have an animal which needs a proper diagnosis go elsewhere.

I was having a rather dull day feeling a bit unfabulous even though I had mixed my Nars "Fire Down…read moreBelow" and with "Flamenco". I needed food for Scaly and I've been looking around the Enfield region recently so I decided to take the bus to Winchmore Hill. Tara's friend who works for Tara 2 days a week immediately struck up a conversation with me about my 1920's cigarette holder (sans cig) and about her daughter being a fashion designer etc. Good Times. I found some food for SBFS and it was a bit expensive (2.75) but quite fruity so I thought "why not?". They had a nice selection of cuttle bones and bird toys including a wooden swing for 6.99. There is dog and cat food here and the smattering of other animal food as well. Tara's friend complained about handling the stinky rawhide bits of pig ears and things. I felt grossed out given my dietary habits.. but hey I'm not a dog. I do own a collar but that's a different matter all together.

In September 2012 me, my boyfriend and my 3 year old rabbit Risa moved to London. Risa is a real…read moreglobetrotting bunny, she was born in my home country, the Czech Republic, but already spent one year with me in France and three months in Germany. While I was living in Germany or France, I used to travel by car. However, I sold my car before I moved to London and as rabbits are not permitted to travel neither on aircraft nor on international buses or trains, it was obvious, that whenever I want to fly home, or just go for vacation, I will have to find a suitable bunny hotel for Risa. That's how I found Bunny 'n' Squeak. It was mid-November when I finally sorted out my Christmas plans and booked my tickets to Prague. Unfortunately, most of the small pet boarding hotels near the area were I live were already fully booked. So I sent an email to this South London based facility. Bunny 'n' Squeak is a small family business run by a friendly pet loving woman called Diane. In the summer period, they house rabbits, guinea pigs and other small sized pets mostly in outdoor hutches with protected coops for pets to have an opportunity to exercise. In winter, the animals are kept indoors, in a dedicated room equipped with 6 or 8 hutches, and a pretty spacious coop were the animals are put everyday for a few hours to exercise. Diane arranged with me to drop off Risa the evening before my departure. Following the Google Map's route finder blindly, I didn't choose the most suitable way and ended up walking for almost half an hour from the Norwood Junction, only to find later that a really suitable train station Birkbeck is right next to Bunny 'n' Squeak. Risa was the first arriving Christmas guest and was assigned one of the hutches. As she is mostly kept free in our apartment and only locked for night or when no one is at home, at first, I had a feeling the hutch is bit too small for her (she is 2.5 kilos, not really a tiny bunny). The hutch was fully equipped: small corner toilet (seemed bit too small for a rabbit of Risa's size), food bowl, drinker and a bunny house for the rabbit to hide filled with hay. Also her bowl was filled with rabbit food. As Risa's biggest hobby in the world is eating, she quickly discovered and appreciated the treats. I was a bit afraid of the amount of the food in the bowl as Risa is a compulsive eater and needs to have her consumption restricted. I arranged with Diane to give her a call on the 29 December after my return to London and pick up Risa in the afternoon hours. I was struggling a bit with the Christmas reduced London public transport but I made it. Risa seemed fine, though I had a slight impression she might have put on some weight (but that's for sure better than the other way round...). I really appreciated that Diane was obviously a pet lover and really seemed to care about the animals. The missing fifth star is partly because of the smaller hutches and partly because of the travelling distance, but I wouldn't hesitate to leave my rabbit at Bunny 'n' Squeak again.

On entering 2 ladies are talking, I thought with the baby in a buggy and a small dog in tow that these were customers, so I smiled and continued through the back of the store were the smaller animals were housed. After browsing/looking around at the state of the place for 5 minutes returned to the front where the older lady asked if she could help me! I apologised saying I didn't realise she worked here and that I was interested in buying a hamster. 'Nope we haven't got any i'm afraid' before I was then almost mocked for having come prepared with a carry box. She turned to the younger lady with the buggy and baby who was now stacking up products in the window and dutifully asked the other staff member (!) what the situation was, I had to press to ascertain whether they would get any in future, unlikely as they were short staffed and hamsters too much work to look after, but if they did they would be sure to advertise it in the shop window (no good for someone who doesn't live locally i'm afraid) I got a ''oh sorry'' and that was it. On entering a pet shop the first thing to catch your attention should not be either piles of stock cluttering one side of the store, or the vending machines of ice-lollies at the back. To add that I had to manoeuvre myself around the buggy too was not welcoming. Not impressed for my first and last visit, A warm welcome in both appearance and from staff makes all the difference.
