I was not informed of all the sports that where available like tennis. I never had the opportunity to go on a pontoon boat ride. Also we sat outside in a partially covered tent for all our meals, it would've been nice for them to change the seating arrangement up. It was cold and wet for a couple of days. I have some grace b/c of covid. The food was often put away after about 15 minutes to a half hour. Not enough time if anyone wanted seconds. On the up side everyone was very nice and helpful. I just think it's really overpriced. My family did enjoy themselves mostly. Maybe 3 stars is more fair.

Wow! I am very impressed with our stay at the Stone Waters Inn. It came recommended to us by my…read moreparents who stayed before the ownership change and said it was nice but could use some small upgrades. It seems as though the new ownership has made most all of these upgrades. To begin, the booking process was a little weird. I called and the woman who booked me seemed a little lost. I asked about a weekend three weeks in advance and she explained the few options available (ranging from $109 a night to $169). I tried to book the $109 room but after much back and forth, she kept figuring out most everything was booked already so we ended up having to book the fancy Vineyard Suite. When we arrived, the only thing I really didn't like was that there was no staff to greet us but we did call and get a hold of the manager who explained what to do. Our room door was left wide open for us with the key in the knob, which we didn't like at all. We felt really uncomfortable upon first getting into our room - like maybe security was loose and anybody could have come in and done anything to the room first. That was the only part we really were unhappy about. As for everything else, we were amazed. The grounds and building are stunning and everything from the lobby to the room were kept very clean and polished. The lobby had a lounge, pool table, popcorn machine, and a covered patio hangout. The manager welcomed us to bring alcohol or drinks if we'd like and supplied wine glasses and everything. We had a lot of towels and they were very nice quality as well. There was a nice bed, pretty comfy, and lots of blankets. Our room had a fireplace and jacuzzi, which you can imagine, I used right away. There was a mini fridge, a radio, a Keurig coffee maker, and many different other small amenities that were nice. The night was very peaceful and quiet. I loved having a ceiling fan as well. The price, $169 a night, actually was very worth it. We definitely agreed that we didn't want to leave the suite. The only other thing I didn't like was that some of the windows didn't have blinds that would close all the way but that was a very simple fix with a small sheet hung over the middle. We will definitely be back and it is very much worth spending the extra few dollars to pamper yourself for the Vineyard Suite!

It's also located in a scenic spot -- beautiful Omena Bay is right down the hill. The lodge itself is comprised of several historic buildings. When we stay here we prefer a room in the Wheeler House, the main house that's also the inkeepers' residence; the second floor is home to four very nicely appointed guest rooms, each with a private bath. The dining room and sitting rooms are on the first floor; guests can enjoy a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, play the piano or just sit and read in the front rooms. Another house on property also has guest rooms, we believe, while a third house is divided into suites. There's also a game/activity building with its own fireplace and kitchenette. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and are excellent cooks -- we love the breakfasts! They're also very knowledgeable about the area, and about the history of their establishment. We really enjoy them. Omena, between Suttons Bay and Northport, is in the northern section of the Leelanau Peninsula but still makes a good, convenient base camp for exploring the rest of the area. We would definitely recommend Sunset Lodge for couples as well as for groups. After driving down "motel row" in nearby Traverse City, we were even more convinced that mom-and-pop lodging is the way to go up here, and that we have found a real travelers' gem in Sunset Lodge.
